The physicality and demands on the body in the current game is making a rugby league pros career shorter and shorter. Players are getting bigger and faster every year.
Warriors in particular worry me. Very often we have a reliance on 1 or 2 players to take the game by the scruff of the neck and make the big plays. Or make a thousand tackles.

We love a good mid tier player. And we have always had players clubs don't want and expect our Shaun Johnsons and Simon Mannerings, Tohu Harris's to guide them to the promise land.

We seem to burn out players quicker than other clubs. Because of this heavy reliance on 1 or 2 players.
If Addin stayed , How long would he last before his body gave up?

Panthers had/have Cleary , Luai , Yeo , Fish, Leota , Dylan Edwards , Chricton, To'o to share the workload.

Melbourne have Papz, Munster, Hughes , Grant, Asofa Solomona, Coates , Wishart , Warbrick to share the workload.
Last year we had, SJ & Addin. This year we don't have either.Hard when big stars don't want to come here.
I guess we make do with what we have.
We have 1 - 18 every week. At some point we just have to get over our issues and do the job we're very well paid to do.

Another expertly written article, identifying EVERYTHING we’ve said. If we can see it, the media can see it, other players & former players see it, then how the fuck do the coaches who spent every day at the club not fucking see it?

It’s actually mind boggling the persistence with niukore & Capewell imo. Especially, especialllly when they’ve got young gun edges pushing their case admirably.

Did we not know that Canberra habitually have a big pack? Were we not expecting that game plan from Ricky? We are actually good enough to have won that game with who we had.

But we looked shell shocked in the first ten minutes and never recovered. We have not enough resilience and we lacked captaincy and leadership out there. Rally your troops better Mr and Mr Co captains. Get your heads right, you've done enough pre season stuff, we've seen and heard it all.

It's not our job to play. We turn up every game to back yous. Show up next time and every time.

Wow this sticking the boot in from the media and here is insane. You know we lost SJ, AFB and Tohu (all top 5 in their position). Our first game without them was on a massive unprecedented stage. Round 1, jesus!
It's round one of year 30 though. It's a cumulative weight of repeated disappointment. Yes it is only round one but we could have won that game with some slight adjustments to attitude and game plan. So it's a stink buzz after the boys had extra early holidays and more reps because of long pre season and how they are connected and Fish doesn't say much but when he does everyone listens etc. I know it's sticking the boot in and it was on an unprecedented stage and probably some of the player's first time to Vegas and that but the loss was hard to take bro.

They will need time to gel and stuff and get cohesion and confidence so let's get prepped for next round. We will still be here

Of course everyone feels the same after 30 years. But there is plenty of transition and resetting periods in there as well.
We lost mostly on effort which is what stings because we all know how easily it can be fixed. I get that but it's way to harsh for me

Gotcha. And agree it's fixable. And Webby said THEY WILL fix it. But we have to keep digesting a long two week break until we see if they have fixed it.

Our last few games with them wasn't too hot either, it's just the optics of it all, as the dude in that video said, that was actually the "good news".... we lost all those players and still not much changed.... for a quality coach that could be a lightbulb moment, I'm backing AW to get it right, it's just the patience game.

In 2018 Penrith was the youngest team in the NRL avg age 25

If Webby wants a dynasty he’s made a fatal flaw in recruiting all these experienced players JFH included and not followed the age old rebuild model

Live and learn

The breakthrough Panthers GF team didn't have anyone over 28 and only 5 players had 100 games+ experience.

I don't think you'll ever get a more perfectly executed rebuild. The whole GF 17 aged between 21-28, all between somwhere between 32-173 games.

They managed to always tap vets like Mansour, Tamou, Whare, Maloney on the shoulder at just the right time.

I think maybe Webbys bench use was the biggest grind. Similar head scratching decisions like last year.

jharal yow yeh had a really interesting breakdown, one of the interesting points was the Vegas 5m narrower field playing to the raiders advantage (big forward pack, nullifies the warriors going wide/being more mobile) and makes a bit of sense - it’s a normal field is 68 metres/13 is about 5 metres so it’s basically an extra defender. Combined with a couple of individual shockers we really needed to be a lot better to overcome that disadvantage. Normal field and the raiders don’t make all of their offloads stick (quite lucky) and I think we beat them easy enough.

But on a smaller dimension field their little blokes ran roughshod through and around us.

That intercept try was very similar to a DWZ intercept built on defensive pressure by us. By slowing down the ruck, our outside guys get right up into the opposition line before the pass is thrown. That's what they did to us.

Their little guys ran because their pack bashed our line to bits. Meanwhile we couldn’t get around them at all

It’s HOW we lost.

No defensive intensity.
Lack of direction.
Poor rotations.
Strange coaching decisions.
Some experienced players not standing up.
Giving minimal mins to our youth.

We didn’t even look like winning. That’s the issue.

Spot on with all those points.

I really can’t wait to watch how we go the next few weeks because if nothing changes, a lot of the doomsday predictions will be hard to talk down.

Or maybe we just really shit the bed, how we tend to do on major occasions.

I’m not overly optimistic but we’ll see.

To your point..we know we lost these guys plus Montoya and Jazz..what I'm cross about is the way we've gone about replacing them. Taking the halves combinations for instance..Selecting CHT and Metcalf on hope alone , and thinking it's a solution was insulting to the fan base.
There's just no star quality in the spine now!
We're in the deep shit.

Not saying he is a star but I actually think Chanel was one of our best in that game on my rewatch today.
