I haven’t had the chance to go back through the threads to get the general thoughts so will do so shortly. I was at the game and thought if share my thoughts:
- It was definitely a winnable game for us so I’m disappointed to drop that one. The key period was the Raiders scoring while down to 12 men and levelling up before the half. If we had gone in at 8-0 up I would’ve felt confident we close that out as it would’ve forced them to play risky in the wet in the second stanza. Instead they came out with tails up.
- I have heard Webby say it’s good to learn while they are winning, but I think all of the young guys will need to take a lot of learnings from that loss. I see Lekas name brought up a lot in the thread, but Demi and Ali also either had key errors at pivotal times or in Ali’s instance not much impact at all.
- Metcalf is our man. I was really impressed with his D last night actually. Made some tough stops. Yes, he has been improving in his game seemingly week to week, but geez our attack needs some serious work. It’s not solely on him I must admit, as he needs to have options and players moving off the ball, but it needs to improve a lot of we are genuine at giving this a shot.
- Tapine. I hated him last night, but if I take my wah goggles off, he is a hell of player. He was the difference imo last night. If Fish hadn’t of been suspended I think we would’ve got over them. Tbh i was (and more so now after the loss) in Fish for his suspension from last week. Got carried away with his aggression which led to the loose shot that he got suspended for. We just didn’t have the leadership out there.
- Ford. That guy is all heart. Man what an engine.
- Clark. Jazz enjoyed talking up the garbage dog persona, but this fella is that and more. Does the grunt work and takes no step backwards. Mean.

Nervy couple of weeks coming up tbh gang.

Onward and upward.
With Storm playing the Titans next week, they would most probably take two points, leaving us with having to beat Souths to keep our 3rd spot. Our differential of -1 is a big worry.

I would personally like to see more decoy runs from our forwards to put them in two minds.
There were times when Luke gave a spray to Leka and Ali for just staying back, not running any lines and just expecting him to to run it up without any support. I liked seeing that. Always need options.

On Ali, did he play with a dislocated finger during the early stages of the game? Surely looked like it on tv.

The game taught the youngsters a lesson that they need to be alert at all times. Hero individual plays will come where they will get to shine, but they also need to able to be part of the team first mentality where everything has to be on point to get the win in the first place.

On Demitric i think he was too eager when he first came on. As soon as he came on he made what seemed like 4 or so tackles in a row.

Didn't know about Luke spraying anyone but makes sense as I was hoping for a few unders runs from Marata or Capewell to change the angle against the grain.
On a wet track always a chance.
Curran used to be great for this.
Good pick up Taj

That's the thing with Roger he's a brilliant player and makes some metres and scores some terrific tries but sometimes they can be self centred not team centred I think the Daly M has a bit to do with that.
Hopefully it all doesn't go to Metcalfs head either.

Gritty game, glad we kept it close though was likely always going to be close in the wet. Thought we just tried to overplay our hand at times, going wide or taking the wrong option too often. Didn't play to the conditions very well. Goal line D was epic but we struggled to contain their back 5 especially Tamale coming out of their end. Not sure why we kept kicking to Weekes either, he was up for it and is much better under the high ball that he was earlier this season, Savage is always good for a dropped ball should of kicked to him more.

We could have kicked short, low, mid range etc to disrupt their play. But I can't hang out in this thread without saying that they beat us well and deserve their lollies.

Poor attack won’t win you this comp my friend
CHT offered nothing but bombs all night which were punt and hope
He never looked like having a go
Egan getting slower by the day
Healey would have been more active
Metcalf tried but other halves failed
Charnze RTS ERIN and capes worked their arses off
For their playmakers who didnt
We’ve said it before
Who is the attack coach?
None of this crap it’s a loss move on
We’ve been saying this for 30 years
Win win win only
No one remembers who comes second

It was CHT aimless kicking mate
Particularly on 5th tackle
Doesn’t even look just shanks it up hope like hell

That’s why Leka needs to go back to the bench, a month of 80 minute football playing like a workhorse and you forget how to run your lines

Funny to see Webby immediately mentioned Berry when asked about having the fully fit backline

Maybe! did you watch how Canberra ran all their plays at Luke and CHT? We hardly had the ball and when we did get it the halves were gassed fro the tackles they made. Smart play by Sticky. Alsoall the former who were screaming out to play the young guys, where are you now. First game where they really came under pressure and exhaustion they fell apart.
Webby is doing the right thing by blooding them slowly, we need the experienced heads in there for those tough games.
Ye fair, but we had more than enough possession in their 20 to win that game. Including 2 back to back sets on their line with a man down at the end their. I thought a lot of egans passing choices in their opposition 20 was pretty bad especially our last play of the game on the 5th throws a nothing ball to Leka which was behind him and he drops it.
We also seem to be slipping back into that habit of when we’re in the grind we’re just running one outs, set after set in slow motion, there’s no offloads no players in motion.
I might be over reacting a bit but hopefully we continue our good run of form and build on it.

Don’t know if I agree about the youth thing tho, we’re still one of the oldest teams in the comp even with Leka, Demi, Laban there.
And with youth they bring energy and aggression and we were outdone in that one.
And On the other hand Raiders are one of the youngest.
I just think our squad is abit unbalanced, especially in the backs old and slow
