My thoughts from the game were that Boyd and TMM are starting to form a very good combination and understanding. Berry looked good for the hit out and a step above Cup level. I'd continue to play him there for the next 4 rounds with a view to bringing him back in to first grade after the Broncos game. Laban is in the right grade for now IMO. Might be an unpopular view but I think he is still improving and needs to develop a little bit more of a harder edge. I think he is still finding out what he is capable of and I'd look to start introducing him in the back half of the season to first grade if there aren't injury forced changes before then. Those 4 players are the most obvious ones pushing for first team. Behind them Healey,Lussick, Ale and Afoa. Bunty doesn't stand out but he does absolutely nothing wrong, just does his job and does it well IMO.

Kosi is a definite never again from me.
Ale and Bunty were huge in that game - really pushing the line back and giving room for the attack. Either a real option for the top team

50% win rate with Gee
Had to have a geez as its interesting.
So here is our winrate against all the refs who are the main refs this round:
Gee - 50% over 28 games.
Todd Smith - 44% over 9 games.
Garard Sutton - 46.7% over 30 games
Atkins - 39% over 28 games
Gough - 47.4% over 19 games
Wyatt - 0% over 3 games
Kennedy - 75% over 4 games.
Klein - 36.8% over 38 games.

Now we are not looking for 50% as fair, we need to compare it to our normal winrate.

We have a 43% win percentage over the last 30 years.
Over the last 5 years we had 116 games with 45 wins (fuck me 2021-2022 was bad. 25% win percentage). We had a 39.2% winrate.
And over the last 3 years we had a 43.8% winrate.

So it looks like Gee might be one of if not our best ref to have. Kennedy more so but he has not reffed many of our games. Klein on the other hand...

I have always bet against us when I read Kleins name

This is great. Thanks for that

Happy to eat my words and why I'm not a coach 😂. Needed that after travelling to Vegas 😂😂
SJ saying for the halves to be more run first. Check
Scope saying Egan needs to control the game with our halves. Check.
Awesome win. Great blueprint just hope we can keep that effort throughout the year.
Up the Wahs.

The devlopment approach in NSW grade at least worked for the fantasy ledgend Humphreys, who was devloped in NSW grade till about this year. Making him debut for the rabbitohs at 23. Which i think has allowed him to have one hell of a footy mind at his age playing a lot of games before getting into the squad. So maybe it could have big returns for laban, to keep going at a 60-80 min 2nd row in NSW cup instead of a smaller impact role off the bench. So he can just step into that role once marata/capewell are injuried or moved on.
How did we not go after Humphrey's

Highly rated young half that Manly couldn't afford to keep. It wasn't some impressive scouting by the Bunnies. Humphrey's has looked the goods in every junior grade he's played in.

Instead our SJ roster replacement is Boyd...

I have full faith in Metcalf becoming elite if he stays injury free. But I don't think Jett or Hanson become quality NRL level. We really might have to wait for Jack Thompson to develop, who isnt even playing atm.

So the ref we have the worst record with is the one they give us the most?
Just our luck (if that’s what u want to call it).

Agree on the Laban take. He lacks that intensity that Halasima and Demetric have - those two are 100% every possession. Laban had some amazing offloads and line breaks in this game, when he's on, he's on. Definitely a better option than Ford off the bench.

Berry just way too classy in this game. Just impacting the game in every area. Line break assists, try assists, yardage carries.

Feel like a lot of clubs would be asking themselves that question. Even more so if he was willing to go into NSW grade and act as Inury replacement for lewis dodd when he signed. Every club and especially knights/cowboys looking quite foolish.

But on the other end, maybe he only left manly because of Bennett.

Once we can score from Lange range we’ll be a serious threat.

Charnze and Pompey need to be replaced. Both are slow and don’t offer much on attack. Pompey gets burned on the outside far too often as well.
There’s a few options to replace them.
When Dallin is fit goes straight back to wing with Taine shifting to Fullback, Rocco to centre. Or Martin to full back, Rocco right centre, Ali left.
Pompey got burned by Turbo and a Saab. I think it's slightly possible that I might not catch those two either. Do you reckon Berry has the wheels to make the tackles Pompey missed against Manly?

You cannot have a rule about a human limb moving while the body is in motion in the act of scoring (even though fans over simplify the rule by looking at arm movement) that would be impossible to rule on in terms of intent. What you can rule on is whether that movement lifts the ball from a grounded position to the in goal.

The Rule is "Promoting the ball" not "Moving the arm".

I am not arguing that Roger was not tempted to promote the ball and that his body 'shrugs' in an arm movement that warrants close scrutiny by the Officials, however he resists the temptation to breach the rule by not following through and *LIFTING THE BALL* and planting it.

You are allowed to look tempted, then change your mind and stay within the rules, it is no different to a player going to pass the ball to a runner that is in front of them, then pull back to avoid a making a blatant forward pass..
perfect explanation, even I could understand it.

great assessment, still feel sorry for our kosi - wish he was faster or moved to the 2nd row.

I'm not sure if others feel the same way but I do think that we are missing a step in our go-forward so far this year, something we essentially led the comp in for the last 2 years. I suspect it's not just the loss of AFB but also because of the changes in our back five. Sure Marcelo and DWZ had their moments in defense, but their carries out of own half was instrumental in our dominating the comp last year in running meters. We're just not getting the same out of TT and RTS.

It is noticeable but I'm not sure it's a major.

We still don't have any issue getting down the field and defensively we have significantly tightened up the middle defence.

It (in this game at least) caused us to be a bit more expansive with the ball to make metres which to me is a good thing.

Manly still made more meters per set than we did, even if we dominated the field possession game. TT being the small guy that he is gets dominated in every hit up he takes. I'm not sure if it is a major problem either, but when our forwards get tired, and Webby persists with our front row playing big minutes, we still need a robust back five to stand up a bit more (in my opinion). I can see this being a problem when we run up against bigger packs.

My immediate thinking was the same but then I thought - aren't Raiders and Manly two of the bigger packs?

Last year we waltzed down to the 20 untouched just about.

This year we are sort of fighting our way down there.

Getting the ball wider and turning back in via the back row is going to be much more of a play from us this year in search of metres.

It sounds stupid (cos it is) but I hadn't heard of him until I was trying to fill a supercoach team and looked at last season's high scores - he had one game for Manly in which got over 100 and I was like 'who's that guy?', looked at the highlights and was very clear he was not fluking it - hiding in plain sight
