The Tigers and the Eels are teams I'd like to kind of support, but they're such dumpster fires in terms of the way they're run and present themselves - okay, the Mohawk v Lodge fuckup should never have happened, but we've never been as bad as these two teams (ie letting Bateman go mid-season just 'cos, everyone on the board hates everyone else so they won't pull together for the club etc)! - just makes it too hard to.
Obviously the Warriors weren't firing on all cylinders. Too clunky and shaky which would have been punished had we been up against anyone really good. Even when it got to 14-10 I never thought the win was in doubt, just the margin.
When CHT nailed that conversion just before half-time, by the crowd's reaction, you'd think he'd scored the 2 points that guaranteed us Finals Football! :)

Why do we lose the ‘6 again’ and penalty count almost every game? I’ve only watched last night’s game live (and without my SportsEars for live commentary/ref’s mic), but felt like the 6 agains were pretty harsh against the Warriors...again. Didn’t cost Warriors this game, but certainly 7 set restarts kept Tigs in it.
Tigers seemed to get away with extra efforts in the ruck and managed to get themselves tangled up every time we were getting a roll on, but not penalised. There were times were stadium screaming for Tigers tackler to roll away or for ref to call it. Mostly ignored. Their defensive line was moving up just as quickly as ours, but ours was punished with seven set restarts. Guessing which number tackle Tigers were going to win another set restart kept us entertained for the last quarter of the game…
There were also two times our kickers were tackled while or after kicking with no penalty, but Capewell got pinged for a tackle on their kicker that looked fine on the big screen. If you can’t tackle a kicker, then make that the rule and call it for both teams. Warriors are at home, rolling through their forwards, victims of some recent high profile reffing clangers, and still come off second best with the ref.
Yes, I realize Warriors have heaps to work about their own game. Yes, I know the Warriors won this game regardless of the refs’ calls and should do in most games. Yes, I know refs are human and can’t see everything. Feels a bit slimy to be whinging about the ref when you've the team has beaten an in jury riddled, soon-to-be back to back spooners too. Just worrisome how often Warriors have to overcome that extra hurdle to win games too.

My uneducated take is that his time coincided with the run of penalties the Tigs received hence we got no ball.....Tigs also scored twice in that time, got it back to a 4 point scoreline.......Webby got the yips, thought "fuck that".......got Addin, Barney and Walker back on the park quick smart......youd have to say it worked too

.......but yeah, gotta see more of him on an edge......surely Capewell didnt have to play 80?
I thought he came on for an injured Walker, then went off when Walker came back on, could be wrong though

Thought we played incredibly dumb and the way we let the Tigers back into the game was a result of really poor discipline and decision making that we’ve seen all season. Halves are looking more ordinary with every game & RTS is all effort but with his limited distribution skills he’s no more than a stopgap option at fullback.

Good to grab the 2 points, great to see the young centres play well, big effort from a few of the experienced players, AFB in particular, but not much else to be happy about. We would have lost to every other team last night.

We were playing with centres who have only a few first grade games under their belt, Ed (who I thought played ok) on the wing and RTS who can't distribute when joining the backline. So, probably only DWZ as first pick in his position. Little wonder we looked clunky but still had some good moments. On to the Eels next week also Friday night game. Has the club requested this time slot? It's not a great time for us to play IMO

Didn’t think much of players saying they were disappointed in aspects of the game. A wins a win and the tigers though losing games have been scoring points in the games they’ve lost. Even though we’ve beaten them in recent times, they’ve also had no problems in scoring points against us also. The last try was unfortunate but 12 points is about what is the norm to concede. Tigers started with Koriasau at halfback and the second half at hooker and the second half was where they looked most dangerous, he’s in career best form and unfortunate he’s spending it at a struggling club. Got a couple of titles to his name all the same. Could tell Papali’i wanted it bad against his old club but the tigers looked beaten up and thought the score flattered them. The try between MGT and DWZ was one of our best of the season

50/50 for me, either sets up for a great weekend, or makes for a long bad one
Yeah there is that. I was thinking more about playing at Mt Smart with dewy conditions at best. I know we have difficulty with syncing in to Australian time slots so no real easy options for us. Looking at the rest of the draw the Dolphins game is our only day game left. Rest are all Friday nights and one late Saturday game to finish off against the Sharks

Any games in Auckland are rolling the dice in regards to the weather to be fair 😂

We got plenty of 6 agains (a few on tackle 1 thou) ref was fine, what’re yous on about?

Good post. I'd disagree with this part though. We couldn't buy a six again in the second half.

I don't mind the ones he called for the tigs, as we were slowing the ruck down like crazy, my issue was that they were doing the same and weren't getting penalised. So pretty obvious stuff went missing.

Still, we had ample opportunity to blow the game out and our attack just looked clunky.

Does anyone remember the Bum Fights on social media a few years ago? When they would film two homeless drunks fighting for a bottle of booze?
It came to mind more than once watching that game. What a cripple fest

I thought our centres had some goodmoments. Nice to see some good defensive reads and some well timed passes. Although we were playing the bottom team on the ladder. Against a top 4 side might be different.
Barnett, AFB, DWZ, and RTS worked hard.
Egan needs some time off. Surely the club must be worried about the state of the inside of his head. We're not going to make the 8 so no point killing the guy. Bring him back fresh next season

Clunky and disjointed. But I guess with no real game time together for the backs to get comfortable with each other that's going to happen.
At least we won.

One of those situations where if you don't laugh you'd cry!

General consensus in my area of the eastern stand was support. Dudes confidence has obviously taken a nose dive and those first two conversions were basically the exact wrong place for him to kick from.

He has a right curve to his kicks and kicking from that spot is basically not gunna happen from him.

He's a third string kicker, that's the meat of it really.

Was listening to a podcast during the week that Sam Williams, the former Raiders half, is on. Smart bloke, and one of the things they were talking about was that the Tigers had the worst defence through the middle and the Warriors had the best attack through the middle in the comp. I haven’t checked to see if this is accurate or not, however if so then last night was about as good a match up as we could have possibly had - the wooden spooners who are worst where we are best… to only win by 12 is a shocker.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed the game.
We created loads of opportunities but couldn't ice them, I only started to get frustrated about 50 minutes in where we started to make unforced errors, lazy penalties and set restarts that brought the Tigers back in.

I dunno, 2 centres who had 4 games between them, probably out worst winger, Roger at the back where he wouldn't have trained in the off season and our 3rd and 4th strong halves....is there any wonder why we struggle to convert our chances? We must have had one of, if not the worst injury tolls this year.

Effort and heart have been there all year, we just haven't been able to execute

Our centres show promise.
AFB had his best game for a while. Barny is a weapon.
RTS is only a FB .
We wont win anything with those halves. Rocks & diamonds for me.
DWZ tries hard in returns but defense is flawed.
We will struggle against the better teams but good to get the W.
