To be honest I don't think you get that much from the trials anyway. I wouldn't care if he was 100% locked in before trial one. Adjustments are made on form during the year. Not like he has to stay with any player for 26 rounds.....
Don't tell the youngsters that they are wasting their time even playing in the trials.
This is their time to shine and they will be doing their very best to make a career

Of course and they can still make an impression. But to displace a regular based on 40 minutes of football doesn't happen. They need to be ahead of them in training etc before the trial as well. Which totally could be the case

Attitude, training, and performing consistently over time in cup is going to have far more weight attached to it than a preseason game against mixed opposition quality IMO.

Hope he is giving him some good advice about checking the other side of the wall before you engage
Think if there is some mental training of whatever capacity in preseason, someone like Kosi will benefit big time for it. That storm game really affected him I think, but we saw with big Manu over his career that he can have a shocker and be brilliant next week. 17 tries over 32 appearances over 4 years for Ed, thought it was interesting he was even captain in nsw cup on at least one occasion. I think he might be held in high regard by the young group coming through?

Would the reason for Kosi being held in high regard be cultural vs performance in a Warriors jersey? Or what?

Ed Kosi just isn’t first grade standard, poor hands, mistakes galore, yet still here we are. What’s wrong giving a start to Kali, Pasikala or even Tuapiki on the wing? I hate this 1st grade experience selection process.

Reminds me of the Jono Wright/Dane Neilson years. And questions have to be asked of our conditioning staff. Niggles and doubts before a ball is kicked. I like Luke at 7 and the speed he has.

Of course you are correct about training attitude and cup performances are important like every other aspect of the game.
Trials are held by every club in every grade (nearly) to expose talent against tougher opponents.
To say that they are a waste of time is stupid 🙄

No I don’t think so? Perhaps has something to do with it but perhaps respected for his hard work. He’s regressed a bit defensively since his first season around the club in 2019, and his first grade debut in 2021 but has plenty of input in metres gained on the field, perhaps that’s why the forwards respect him for the work he saves them in carries. Average metres in nsw cup is 131m over big sample, and 122m in first grade so he puts in whatever grade he’s playing. 193cm and 106kg, he’s a big unit

Why do I get the feeling the warriors are ill prepared for the 2025 season, way to many questions going into this season.

It feels very unsettling, are they okay with their halves?

I'm sorry to be negative, but I don't like the fact we are hanging on the fitness of Luke Metcalf, love the guy but he has to stay fit!

I have this team tracking to a bottom 4 finish realistically, and would be happy if we beat last seasons 13th place.

I just feel like this team is far from settled. Especially in the backs.

It helps to adopt the view that this year is part of a three year rebuild of the team, because it is.

As you have stated there is a great deal of uncertainty, however this is to be expected from where we are in our development.

We won't be threatening the top eight until these junior guys get three seasons of experience.

As such I prefer to just watch the games looking for growth, rather than wins.
Perhaps we might get lucky like the 2001 rebuild side and scrape into eight place feeling good about it. Probably not. Probably gonna see some painful games, but hey, if we uncover five new exciting juniors in the next two or three seasons it will be worth the pain.

Huh? AFB was the only decent player in that list last year.
I was more so meaning that other teams/media will not be expecting anything from us with those three departures. Which is a good thing from where I'm sitting, means we can fly under the radar.

Also regardless of how they played in 2024 that is two highly experienced club leaders hanging up the boots. Will need Barney/Fish and a few other senior players to step up leadership wise.

Thanks for posting this - some enlightening comments in there about their halves play this year, particularly Metcalf's role.
Great to hear that we are moving away from our generic play from last season. Proof will be in the pudding of course with AW as we heard that we would incorporate TMM more at 6 when SJ returned last season and it lasted half a game. These preseason games are important to get the combinations and play going against some opposition other than in house training runs. Like every team, building in to game one and the season is key to these games.

I don't think anyone is saying they are a waste of time? It's a great risk free opportunity to try things. Our point is noone earns a spot just by having a good trial. Can it get them closer? Sure, but so much more to it
