A couple of things I'm looking forward to see tomorrow night:
  • A clear plan with Niukore. Imo was wasted last year going between middle and edge
  • Fish's first hit up in Wahs colours
  • The halves combo and what the plan is for TMM and Metcalf re: kicking and general touches
  • Erin Clarks role and what that looks like
  • Laban and Vaimunga and how they've progressed this off season
  • Jett doing Cleary things. Just one thing, any thing to get us excited for the nek few years

It's almost time...can't wait!

A big opportunity for our halves over the trials. They have big shoes to fill.

A lot of our chances depend on how they guide us around the field, their ball playing and their kicking. All of them have question marks over different aspects of their play. Hopefully a lot of work has been put in over the off season.

The other big concern. Especially looking at Metcalf and Martin if they are the the two getting the first opportunity to impress in the early rounds is their injury record the last few years. They have both missed a lot of football the last few years. When Johnson returned the concern was more his injury record and his advanced age. Besides last year he had a good run. His halves partners were often the ones getting injured. Hopefully things turn around and they can stay on the field and we can debate their form instead.

If we do get injuries hopefully the replacements step up. Better to have competition and make selection difficult.

huh? please explain, not aware of number 19 connection with the mad butcher
The Warriors retired the number 19 in honour of the Mad Butcher and his support of the club so now they won't give any player that number jersey, so in team lists you will see a jump from number 18 to number 20 when extended team lists are named. I am not sure why number 19, in the Google search results I saw when looking this up he was called "the 19th Warrior" in a few of them - maybe it's to do with having a team of 17 on game day and an 18th man for injury so if you were going to say the Mad Butcher was an extra man on the team you would say he is number 19... But I don't know, someone else might be able to answer this better.

One other thing form me. I would have loved Ali to start on the left so he was paired with RTS. It would worry me defensively which is why Pompey is likely there. When on attack though it gives us a left edge that would trouble teams.
Pompey played in jersey #4, regardless of his side in 2023. Pompey also played in #3 while lining up at left Centre in Rounds 24 & 25 last year, with RTS in #4 on the right. History shows our Centre's numbers don't have any logic behind them as in Round 26 CNK played right-side in #3 & Ali left-side in #4
