General NSW Cup 2025

Play the games on Friday night also means TV coverage.

A lot is made about us travelling to Australia and the heat and change of time zone. I reckon we schedule the games for when it is coldest. Make them wait like on Mystery Alaska.

I was talking to some of the Dragons age group players last year that played before the NSW Cup. They were saying how cold it was which made me laugh. I doubt we will be able to sign those two in 5 years time.
It wasn’t cold last Friday - shorts and T shirt were on , I won’t be saying that though in a few months

Not prediction per say but I do want to see:
Pasikali, sio kali, daeon amituanai, eddie irermaia toeava. I got close eyes on young Eddie looked good in the storm trial but people alluded that he is a better SR.

Daeon and Kali added some nice shots on defence v Sharks game so keen to see how they progress and with top side being thin on outside backs who knows.

Im not sure what grade Toby Crosby is playing, but if he plays in nsw cup would be keen to see how he tracks
Did Crosby come from Upper Hutt Rams (ie union)?

2 out of 4 development teams running dead set last.
I'm not so worried about the results. More interested in the development. I worry about having bigger and stronger players in the youth versus the opposition and that leading to an unrealistic expectation of it transferring into higher grades. I hate seeing a game in the youth grades where a commentator says 'and x player scores, just too big and strong' I want them to be saying 'that is a well worked try.'

Having said that, dead last is a concern.

I wish this personal knocking would stop. It is not funny and belittles our own guys
I get it Kav1 but this is a high performance sport that draws massive income and other benefits so if that means expressing an opinion on his performance is personal knocking I will stop. I have nothing against the person but honestly his performance hasn't been first grade in my opinion since he had a personal battle against Mulitalo.

Also the comment you based your post on was a joke and I understand when someone doesn't agree with my humour. Ta

The Ball team should be better next year as this is the last year there wasn’t a Harold Matts team. So they should at least have combination from the last two Harold Matts teams. Flegg on the other hand won’t see any improvement next year. This year’s Ball teams is the worst since it’s inception.

You don't get that with Harold Matts and SG ball

Every team puts their best players for that age group in.

Because the season is so short, if you are an elite U19 player, you will play SG ball. If you are an elite U17 player, you will play Harold Matts. After that you might go onto Flegg or NSW cup later in the season.

That's why Bishop Neal isn't playing SG ball for example.

TL;DR our 18 - 19 year old talent at the club is bad at the moment.

(but moreso I think the coaching talent in the pathways teams is trash)

I thought he won that battle against Mulitalo; at least he rattled his cage.
I will watch his form closely in NSW cup and try to be positive about his contribution to the success of the team.
Remember the old adage: It is better to say nothing, if you can't say anything positive at all

There's also an adage of being honest. So perhaps if he performs poorly like many of our players have and attracts criticism..... It's warranted

In the words of Michael Jackson: ‘I’m a product for gods sake’

Elite sports people aren’t social sports people (amateur) they chose to be entertainers, in the public eye and are paid as such.

The public pay to invest in the team and players and have an ownership in the results. The result and players position in the team is 100% based on results.

I don’t support abuse or a focus on players personally, but in pro sports it’s expected that fans will comment about them as a player, for better or worse. Fans go through an emotional roller coaster with the team and sometimes that emotion will be negative.

Players need to control the situation via a support system for themselves rather than focusing on the uncontrollable fans responses.
