Awesome stuff! This will flow through into the rest of the economy with more tax take. A rising tide lifts all boats.

The country will be humming by next election once all the coalitions hard work starts to bear fruit.
Farmer confidence comes from the milk price which determines if dairy is profitable or loss making. It was rising under labor too but neither part should claim it as a lot of it stems from demand from the international market, mainly China.
National are not really supporting growth at all with their cuts and lack of vision around infrastructure spend, they are actually worse at the economy than labor, at least labour had a strategy around growth, pity they had no idea how to manage anything.
I hate to say it and it would probably never happen but we need someone like Wayne brown as PM, a management brain who likes to know the detail, is frugal, doesn't care if nobody likes him and his decisions but still does the right thing. Just wants to do the job, not thinking about how he looks in the polls.

Feel like Hipkins begun this yesterday by saying publicly just because it’s a national idea, doesn’t mean it will be scrapped just on that premise if they return to government. Feel like plenty of the country saw some initiatives overturned as nothing more than a waste of money and unnecessary. The school lunch program is showing egg on the governments face and the previous program should have been left as one example. It’s not being viewed favourably now the rollback of anything that was labour initiated and I think the country wants at least an element of bi partisanship. This rewinding is exactly what’s to come in America and I’m hoping the negative poll results this government has seen in recent times translates over there too as this commences

While I agree, a lot of canned stuff wasn’t even started, we just had years of talk and planning.

To be fair, Labour cancelled their own projects like the Auckland bike bridge and RNZ/ TVNZ merger, worker insurance plan, etc. Hipkins cancelled a whole lot of stuff admitted they were poorly planned.

I solidly believe the airport rail project and the ferry project would have been cancelled if Labour had a creditable way out because they were giant cockups.

Good govt projects stand the test of time like Kianga ora, Kiwi bank, Kiwi saver, etc under that last labour government. What we need is sensible projects from both side with political consensus that stack up and make New Zealand better, then we won’t have to flip flop.

You can already tell some stuff like charter schools won’t last because they are not universally supported and just ideological projects, just like 3 waters under Labour.

Just because projects aren’t started doesn’t mean there’s been considerable amounts of taxpayer money on the planning etc. To look at the canning of the tobacco initiatives, that must have been a huge amount wasted. We know the cancelled ferries have been. I think there needs a consensus of bi partisanship on major spending just because of the potential wastage when things are overturned

I think it’s a credit to the lunch program that Act has tried to make it work rather than canning it all together. First year university free was kept and changed to last year. Good ideas stand up to changes of govt.

Smoking - rates are dropping to 0 anyway over time. I don’t think it would have made a huge difference and didn’t cost anything.

A lot of the spending on the airport train will still be current when Labour next gets in. The proof of if it’s a good idea is if Labour actually does it again… 😉

I think it was horrendously expensive and ended up being a white elephant Labour regretted because they didn’t do the work preplanning in opposition.

Time will tell.

Some of the stuff like speed limits and Te Reo govt departments are ideological stuff just like the constant flip flopping around employment trial periods and stuff. Each side has their pet projects.

It’s a tough one because over 10 years ago labour ran an election on a cgt which they were smacked over. As times gone on, there’s many who have said a cgt is necessary but because of the negative light that was placed upon it, labour never had it as a policy in any of their future election policies

The negative light has a very strong set of lobby groups behind it - all right wing, all very moneyed

For sure. In democratic countries, we’ve still got the power to vote candidates and parties into power, so it’s about being aware of these factors. I think younger generations able to vote are more aware of this particular factor more than many previous ones

If you think we’re bad wait until you see ultra right wing views of Gen Alpha. The oldest of them is 15, so the left has 1-2 voting cycles to come up with something.

Perhaps that’s why many see race wars in our future. If there is going to be an attempt to restore a white dominated world that it was, I can’t see other races just rolling over and accepting that as their lot

Thats not it all and in fact is a perfect case of disinformation.. The argument is if other ethno groups ie Japanese, Fins etc can remain ethnically homogenous without being called racist, why cant white Europeans. Now notice there's no invading or killing brown people there? Its an entirely logical and valid argument.

Its got nothing to do with "white dominated world"

Except, y'know, colonialism Frank. And the so called yearning for a simpler world is one founded and drenched in misogyny, racism, bigotry and intolerance.
