Pick Your Team Storm v Warriors - [Round 6, 2025]

Someone wanted an early season review thread to keep us entertained, but the bickering in here shows that there will be no lack of post wars in the coming two weeks.

In a way I would like to see Kosi play the Storm to give him a chance to exorcize his demons.
people love to pile on kosi now, but tend to forget the minor great run of form he had in the back end of the 22 season (understandable tho, everyone would love to forget that year) where he was one of the best in that dead af squad, and in the start of the 23 season where his injury was the thing that started his trend downhill in the first place. As for his demons against the storm, he scored a hattrick in the return fixture after that generational shitshow on anzac day.

Although most of the hate has been recently warranted on him, i still feel theres a solid first grader in him somewhere. I wouldn't be mad if he's on the teamsheet come gameday.

Maybe I am a bit high right now but is it crazy to think we can win this game? Earlier this week, I thought this is a bit of a reach game and a solid 1-12 pt loss would be a great outcome. But on reflection, I don't think Melbourne are actually going that well. They smashed Parra (who wouldn't right now?). They limped to victory against an out of form panthers side who almost beat them after losing Cleary mid-game. And then they lost to St George who had not won a game previous to that. Penrith isn't the only top side that is a bit tipsy at the moment. Maybe this is actually the perfect time to take on the Storm rather than later on in the year when they will be firing on all cylinders.

I agree - but the thing is, we’ve been saying this a few times over the past 10 years; that this is the perfect time to take on the Storm 😂

Us vs. the storm is purely psychological now. I think that’s what a long losing streak does to teams, no matter how good the team is performing on the field (2023, 2018) or how different the squad now is compared to the very first loss at the start of the streak. Players, members of the staff/organisation, fans, media - everyone becomes aware of this added pressure of the longest active losing streak.

I do think that if we win against them, it will go a long way into dictating how we go for the rest of the season.

Hoodoos don't last forever. After the 2022 debacle, we've gotten closer each time we've played at Melbourne and arguably should have won both times. In 2023, we lost by 8 (30-22) when we were effectively beaten by the ref and injuries. Last year by 4 (30-26) thanks to the Coates miracle. If the trend continues, this could be the year we break the duck.

The psychological part to me spot on. We have gone from the side that gave them the most trouble to not beating them for a long time.

Last years last second win would have been gut wrenching. Also it gives the coaching staff something to use. Firstly, as a reminder that we will need to be on for 80 minutes. Secondly that they started poorly and managed to get back into the game and get in the lead. Closing out the game was an issue.

It is also a different squad to last year.

I remember Matty Elliott after they broke one streak and he was reminded about the upcoming game and the losing streak against that club. "It seems like this club has a hoodoo against every club".

Hopefully, we can break our losing streak against them. Confidence-wise it would be huge. If not now then a last second win in a preliminary final or grand final would be cool as well.
