NRL Round Discussion NRL Round 3 2025 Discussion

Fuck, so garrick just had a kid. Can only hope metcalf plays a game like that next week or three weeks from now when his kid is born. Seems to weirdly bring out the best in players just after.

Bloody Manly should get done for not allowing Garrick time off to be with his wife and bubba.
Watch for Garrick Junior to become a mass murderer because Dadda wasn't there on her first evening of life.

Honestly, I was disappointed in Stuart. Pretty tame stuff. If ever there was a time to let loose on the refs, it was that game. Stitch up of the century that was. We'd all be calling for the NZ foreign minister to create an international incident over such a game if that happened to us.

Maybe he's let loose too often and figured he should STFU this time. Trigger-happy, in other words. So doesn't pull the trigger when there's a really good target there...

Jamal Fogarty’s smirk when Ricky makes this comment 🤣

Just watched the whole thing - it's wonderful ... the hurricane whipped seas of Stick's guts just wanting to spew forth... and for the record I agree, the no-try was an awful call from the bunker, then there was some back chat from the raiders guys to which Aitkens responded by screwing down on them and that basically turned the game - edit: the Manly presser is worth a watch too, the the reaction to the reaction had Seibold worming to the degree that he had to go back and give props to the Wahs... then the real coach in DCE steps ups... and you end up with all the contract gossip bs from the journos ...

In retrospect, our shocker against Canberra was relatively mild compared to the lows of most other teams over the first 3 rounds. With the exception of Melbourne, Penrith and Sharkies, all the other teams seem ripe for the picking on our day. Dogs are a high effort team with a small but sturdy pack that I can see us overpowering when we finally meet them. Their attacking shape is also highly reliant on Burton. Brisbane and Manly may have sizzling attack but have a soft underbelly in defense that can get exposed by forward oriented sides like us and Canberra (and when refs aren't stitching things up for them!). I can see us beating Brisbane at Mt Smart in a couple of weeks after the bye the same way we dealt with Manly . Can't really see us beating Melbourne in Melbourne after the bye. But if we can make it close, that'll be a sign that 2025 might look a lot more like 2023 than 2024.

While I agree with your points, we will need to beat them eventually (if we make finals).

For me, improving each week is a great thing, but we gotta be going back to being their bogey team if we want any optimism for a hypothetical finals campaign.

Our halves pairing needs to kick it up a few gears, very quickly, if only to mitigate and feeling within the club that we can't go the full distance.

We also have to be realistic- we aren't winning the comp this year. We are a side in transition and this year is going to be a challenge at times especially with the young guns starting to get a regular crack at NRL. For me, making finals week 2 would be amazing for us this year and would set us up nicely for the subsequent years. We can achieve that without beating the top 4 sides but beating everyone else.

Again, good points.

Regardless, losses are not positive. No matter the PD.

We need to ice these games and claw back that reputation of being that club that players hate to play against.

That Melbourne game is very important.

I fully get your take as far as expectations go, fully realistic. I just don't like operating at a lower bar than our competitors, as that leads the way for subpar results (only my two cents)
