📝 Summary:

The thread centers on New Zealand's upcoming election, primarily debating the economic management and policy differences between the center-left Labour government and center-right National/ACT opposition. A user #7 highlighted Labour's annual 9% spending growth versus 1.5% under previous governments, arguing this fueled inflation. National's tax-cut policy faced scrutiny over funding gaps and legality, with user #215 questioning Luxon's reliance on "trust me" assurances.
Leadership competence emerged as a critical theme, particularly in later posts. Luxon drew heavy criticism after a contentious interview where he struggled to defend policy details #194#199#211, while Willis faced backlash for her economic credentials. Hipkins garnered fleeting praise for articulation but was ultimately seen as representing poor governmental outcomes #45#119. A trusted user #308 presented expert economic analysis contradicting Treasury optimism. Infrastructure issues—like Wellington's water crisis and the dental school staffing shortage—were cited as examples of systemic mismanagement #235#12. Notable policy debates included road-user charges for EVs #220, immigration impacts on rents #299, and coalition scenarios involving NZ First #182#258. Early fringe discussions on candidates' rugby allegiances gave way to substantive policy critiques, culminating in grim Treasury forecasts discussed in posts #271#304#308. User #168 also revealed concerns about Labour rushing regulatory changes to entrench policies pre-election.

Got a speeding ticket doing 74 in a 60 zone. Unleashed a bit on the cop as I was following another car all through the hick town both doing the same speed.

The urge to revolt and push back against our oppressive system is building. Our freedoms are being systematically eroded in the push to turn us into compliant sheep.

I can feel a political career forming… or maybe just an anarchist that snaps after being pushed to far?

This is how a Trump is enabled when good people are pushed to far by the system and want to revolt but don’t know how. Actually, I might just be our Trump one day 😉
I thought you lot are all about personal responsibility. You were speeding, tough. More hypocrisy.

Personal responsibility - I will decide if im doing something dangerous, I don’t need the govt to tell me. I drive what’s safe on the road, not some arbitrary limit. The limit is designed for night time, in the rain for drunk/ stoned drivers. Not for me!

So no, 74kmph on that road, in those conditions was not dangerous to anyone.

Revenue gathering. The policeman won that battle but they will lose the war (which is what I told him and he wasn’t very happy about it) 🤣

Ps I thought he pulled me over for being on the phone at first but got away with that one…

Plus tough on crime right? Your mob should be demanding 2 years jail, no parole and you forfeit your car and home. In fact you should be demanding that for yourself given your past rhetoric. Plus your crime is a lifestyle choice so throw the book at you.

No crime mate, no victim. Fining law abiding people that have never had a crash just turns good people against the police over petty stuff!

It's a slippery slope

This will become a habit. Next step will be petty theft to fund your speeding and traffic fines. Then you'll pick up the pipe to find ways to relax. Eventually you'll find yourself in the public toilets, giving some old guy a favour for $10 to get some black tar

Lock you up now, I'd say

Still doesn’t beat that $400 fine when those f**king customs dog picked up an apple in one of my kids bags.

I have PTSD and try to mow those dogs down with my trolley every time I go through the airport now…

You left out the final step - voting for the Greens.

Never crashed. I dont drink/ drugs and drive and pay attention. The rules are for you sheep and under 25 year olds that dont have my experience.

Selfish of the govt to arbitrarily infringe on my rights really for no benefit 😉

Off topic but I’ve been a successful entrepreneur because I don’t follow the rules of life, and I’m not about to start now. I offer society so much more than the rule followers ever can.

Setting aside being on your phone, which is dangerous, you have limited control over whether you crash. Sometimes things happen that make crashes unavoidable, and under those circumstances going faster means worse crash.

"Successful entrepreneur because I don't follow the rules" — definitely a horrible boss.

"I will decide if im doing something dangerous". Classic right winger. Thinks about the issue entirely in terms of risk to himself. Never occurred to him it might be about to risk to others. I.e. the kid who runs onto the street and dies when they might have lived.

Yawn… revenue gathering. What gives the govt the right to play god with my time?

The road outside my business used to be 100, was changed to 80 and now back to 100.

The risk hasn’t changed, just the arbitrary line in the sand

I drive to the conditions and have never crashed and treat my annual speeding ticket as a cost of business. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah you haven't addressed the point.
