📝 Summary:

The thread centers on New Zealand's upcoming election, primarily debating the economic management and policy differences between the center-left Labour government and center-right National/ACT opposition. Key criticisms target Labour's fiscal stewardship, citing ballooning government expenditure #7#272, housing unaffordability, and unfulfilled promises like KiwiBuild and dental care expansion #16#12. A user #7 highlighted Labour's annual 9% spending growth versus 1.5% under previous governments, arguing this fueled inflation. National's tax-cut policy faced scrutiny over funding gaps and legality, with user #215 questioning Luxon's reliance on "trust me" assurances.
Leadership competence emerged as a critical theme, particularly in later posts. Luxon drew heavy criticism after a contentious interview where he struggled to defend policy details #194#199#211, while Willis faced backlash for her economic credentials. Hipkins garnered fleeting praise for articulation but was ultimately seen as representing poor governmental outcomes #45#119. A trusted user #308 presented expert economic analysis contradicting Treasury optimism. Infrastructure issues—like Wellington's water crisis and the dental school staffing shortage—were cited as examples of systemic mismanagement #235#12. Notable policy debates included road-user charges for EVs #220, immigration impacts on rents #299, and coalition scenarios involving NZ First #182#258. Early fringe discussions on candidates' rugby allegiances gave way to substantive policy critiques, culminating in grim Treasury forecasts discussed in posts #271#304#308. User #168 also revealed concerns about Labour rushing regulatory changes to entrench policies pre-election.

They ministers in charge have been interviewed, given evidence and the commission declined to summons them

The architects of this particular enquiry were proposing "Vax Bucks" & Winnie was tweeting up a storm while in opposition on the importance of vaccination & how slack the government had been with them.

Honestly it's probably a case of the commission realising the hypocrisy & politicisation of this under taking.

Get's cookers excited though.
True. We haven't had a decent Royal Commission since the Air NZ Antarctic crash. Mahon was right but got shafted by Muldoon. Nothing much has changed since then in Politics

Classic, first instance of taking the piss and resort to labelling people in order to delegitimise any discussion.

I could say you should just transition already. You're on the verge. But I wouldnt resort to anything that low
It wasn't a very nuanced take by you Frank and the forum deserves better considering how erudite you think you are.

I expect nothing less from Audrey Young.

Gosh, imagine if she applied this equally to say....Christopher Luxon, or David Seymour.

Never seen something like that on NZME? You won't. This is the mainstream right making sure anyone who speaks out is maligned. Business as usual

She sounds suspiciously Inruinish......

TBF, Chloe cocked up the debate and then dug a hole. All she had to do was back down, apologise and Gaza would have still been the major focus. Now however, as usual with all the media and blogs, Chloe is grabbing the headlines, getting the boot out of parliament, not the Shitstorm happening in Gaza.
She's a bear with little brain, how come she didn't go onto the front lines with Auntie Helen and get an insiders view of what's going on with the aid? As I posted earlier at least Marama had the gall to make an effort to be on the ground as well.

Anyone know if Greta is still being held and tortured (no pickled herrings) in the Tel Aviv Hilton?

Just a bit of trainspotting for you youngsters, Aud is the daughter of Nat MP Venn Young and the sister of Ex Nat New Plymouth MP Jon Young. In a weird twist of fate for a righty, Venn threw in a private members bill to legalise homosexual acts between consenting adults (forget about the lesbians says her who must be obeyed)
Was defeated , anyone remember Colin Moyle.

We had this shit in the 70's and 80's people. Nothing really new

It's amazing how entrenched in your little bubble, echo chamber you are. Your leftist views are supported by around 10% of the last vote and of them I would think the majority wouldn't understand the implications of them if they were actually implemented. I'm glad that your charade is over and your true colours have finally been admitted to, and that the majority of people fall in to the 70% - 80% Labour, NZFirst, National predominantly center that the country has always been and hopefully always remains as. I view the Greens even more dangerous than ACT and that's saying something. Luckily they only get about 10% each and they are at the opposite extreme ends of the spectrum to balance the nuttiness out.

I see zero point in trying to have an actual discussion with you, for a number of reasons including, but not limited to, the almost propagandist spam posting, so shall return to my previous stance of not engaging with you.

All the best, and I mean that as I do fear for your mental health.

But are you really Audrey Young?

He didn't appreciate the Audrey comment. It hurt.

Not fussed about that comment.

I just see no point in engaging with someone who is so blindly extreme left and unwilling to have a rational discussion. I mean I thought you were quite bad but he takes it to a whole other level. At least you at times had the ability to concede points.

Genuinely, it's not healthy IMO same as any far right person posting in the same way. The continued behavior certainly comes across in a fanatical, blinded way. Hey, maybe he is ok but you have to be concerned at not being able to accept some things this government do is right and that some things the opposition parties do is wrong.
