The thread centers on New Zealand's upcoming election, primarily debating the economic management and policy differences between the center-left Labour government and center-right National/ACT opposition. Key criticisms target Labour's fiscal stewardship, citing ballooning government expenditure #7#272, housing unaffordability, and unfulfilled promises like KiwiBuild and dental care expansion #16#12. A user #7 highlighted Labour's annual 9% spending growth versus 1.5% under previous governments, arguing this fueled inflation. National's tax-cut policy faced scrutiny over funding gaps and legality, with user #215 questioning Luxon's reliance on "trust me" assurances.
Leadership competence emerged as a critical theme, particularly in later posts. Luxon drew heavy criticism after a contentious interview where he struggled to defend policy details #194#199#211, while Willis faced backlash for her economic credentials. Hipkins garnered fleeting praise for articulation but was ultimately seen as representing poor governmental outcomes #45#119. A trusted user #308 presented expert economic analysis contradicting Treasury optimism. Infrastructure issues—like Wellington's water crisis and the dental school staffing shortage—were cited as examples of systemic mismanagement #235#12. Notable policy debates included road-user charges for EVs #220, immigration impacts on rents #299, and coalition scenarios involving NZ First #182#258. Early fringe discussions on candidates' rugby allegiances gave way to substantive policy critiques, culminating in grim Treasury forecasts discussed in posts #271#304#308. User #168 also revealed concerns about Labour rushing regulatory changes to entrench policies pre-election.

Because John Key was trying to get the Cabinet of the then Labour Government to change it's Foreign Affairs policy... which is the role of the opposition, to scrutinise the Government's policy. Chloe, on the other hand, tried to introduce a Bill to force the Government to change it's policy.... that's what her call for 6 government MP's to cross the floor.... it would have forced a Foreign Policy change.... not through the Cabinet but through Parliament. Why’s that Mike?
Never saw that one. I'll be gone for approximately an hour and a half comrade, no time to explain.

Ah well, whether this has prompted it or not the government is finally starting to make some noise with Luxon saying Netanyahu has lost the plot. NZ needs to join the growing amount of countries that are outraged at what’s happening and what’s proposed over thereBecause John Key was trying to get the Cabinet of the then Labour Government to change it's Foreign Affairs policy... which is the role of the opposition, to scrutinise the Government's policy. And, BTW, I thoroughly support a two party state with Israel and Palestine co-existing ... just not the undemocratic way she was trying to force it through.
I don't know what exactly is proposed, but I'm afraid it's a Biblical solution and it's beginning to look a lot like genocide.Ah well, whether this has prompted it or not the government is finally starting to make some noise with Luxon saying Netanyahu has lost the plot. Much of the world doesn’t seem to be able to comprehend that supporting Palestine doesn’t mean supporting hamas. Most recent figures say 35% of Palestinians support hamas, but transparency in finding that statistic seems unlikely? I don’t think many oppose the quest to be rid of hamas, but the collateral and destruction is unjust and I agree is a genocide. My grandad was a Jew who got deported from northern Italy as a young man and survived various concentration camps before ending up in NZ and immediately starting a family with another member of the tribe, to get back at Hitler for murdering his family according to him. And because he fell in love, I like to think.Much of the world doesn’t seem to be able to comprehend that supporting Palestine doesn’t mean supporting hamas. Steady on George Michael, what does it have to do with toilets?Like, is that Wellington Koru Lounge toilets?
Funny really as in the middle east as you would know, the Kippah relates like the Keffiyeh. Only men could wear it but I guess Chloe and her friends sort of fit the bill. And my understanding is that both garments are worn on the head. Not sure where the decorative scarf thing came from. Bit like being Gay or Trans in Iran.My grandad was a Jew who got deported from northern Italy as a young man and survived various concentration camps before ending up in NZ and immediately starting a family with another member of the tribe, to get back at Hitler for murdering his family according to him. He wasn't a fan of Israel because of the Russian influx in the 1950s, he said "bubbalah, if you knew what they had to do to survive the Russian lagers you wouldn't want to be in a country run by them, it made them fucking psychopaths, if I were you I'd stick to being a secular atheist kiwi like me and forget about Abrahamic death cults. Anyway, Merry Christmas. Here's your gift, it was your great granddad's kippah, don't wear it out."
