The debate between
RTS and Ridge got me thinking. I think we rate players on their best years but give more weight if their best years are at the twilight of their career.
I think
RTS playing on is damaging his legacy significantly.
Tohu sort of did the same.
RTS was an explosive player. They tend to peak young. Do those explosive players get penalised late in their career over the more structured players?
Do players retiring into their mid 30’s now rather than much earlier in the past, make the older generations appear better when retiring more towards their peak? How do you compare players of different generations anyway?
Wikis another example where he build his legend in the centres then second row and finished at prop. Everyone regards him as a prop. I believe
Tohu’s peak was in the second row but we remember him as a lock.
