I think the CHT would want a decent upgrade considering he's first choice this year, same could be said for Metcalf.
I wouldn’t be jumping in to upgrade CHT yet
Hasn’t shown enough on attack for me
Metcalf dunno either
This year is very interesting for Cuddles
He’s got his favourites and he’s sticking with them!
He will live and die by the sword for that reason

tbh I don't know if you can say that no game this year has been lost by the halves raiders and storm flogged us across the park and there seems to be a balance of players having a zero or hero week. also the guy you call cuddles dropped afb for not hanging around for the team song seems pre staunch to me a lot of other coaches would let it slide.

You'd hope that a guy who seems like he has a good head on his shoulders would accept that he is on a good wicket in terms of sustainable value vs output. The last thing that CHT would want to do is to price himself out of a sustainable place in a squad. His true attraction right now would be the value for money we are getting with him at 6.

NRL return for Joseph Manu unlikely

Joseph Manu won’t be coming to the Warriors – and the chances of an NRL return also seem unlikely. The former Roosters star is currently playing rugby in Japan with Toyota Verblitz, before joining French club Racing 92 on a one-year deal in June.

A Sydney Morning Herald story last week speculated that Manu could seek a release from his Top 14 contract on compassionate grounds to return to Australasia, where he would have no shortage of suitors across league and union.

However, the possibility of a switch back to the 13-a-side code appears remote. The Herald understands that the Warriors have made inquiries about Manu to comprehend the situation. It’s unlikely the club would have considered a short-term deal – for the rest of this season – but obviously have pursued the 28-year-old before, on a couple of occasions and have space in the salary cap. However, it’s believed the Auckland club was told there was “nothing to the rumours” about a possible early exit from his French deal.

If that situation changes, it’s also apparent that Manu, who has been mainly used on the wing in Japan, would want to pursue rugby if he does return to this part of the world. He is at the start of his rugby apprenticeship and would want to know he has given his All Blacks’ dream the best possible crack, via Super Rugby Pacific, aware of the time it took other converts to master union’s different demands.

That doesn’t mean that Manu won’t return to the NRL in the future, but that option will be on the table at any stage, given his past achievements.

Decision close for Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad

Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad’s future should be decided soon. The Herald understands the popular fullback is close to making a call, with several options in front of him. As revealed by the Herald last week, he has a two-year contract from the Warriors alongside various longer deals from multiple Super League franchises, which also include an option for a fourth. The 28-year-old would have marquee player status in the Super League, which would enable significant financial rewards, though money would not be the only motivation to take up the Northern Hemisphere offer.

The Catalan Dragons are one of the clubs in the mix for Nicoll-Klokstad, while the London Broncos have also expressed interest. The capital club are currently in the Championship but are seen as a key element of Super League’s expansion plans, which could secure their return to the top flight as soon as 2026.

NRL doors opening for Te Maire Martin

Recent transfer machinations in the NRL will help Te Maire Martin’s search for a new NRL team in 2026. While Martin’s preference would be to stay at the Warriors, that looks unlikely. He is the only one of their four senior halves not signed beyond this season, and Luke Metcalf and Chanel Harris-Tavita are currently Andrew Webster’s first-choice halfback pairing. That situation could change – with injuries or form – and Martin could get his first taste of NRL action on Saturday, after being named on the interchange for the clash with Brisbane on Saturday.

The 29-year-old has impressed observers at the club with his attitude and professionalism, along with his performances in reserve grade, but he will need to secure his future, and doors are opening, prompted by Daly Cherry-Evans’ impending Manly exit. Canberra’s Jamal Fogarty is likely to replace him, while Lachie Galvin looks increasingly unlikely to be at the Tigers beyond this season, given the recent fallout.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/ru...-nrl-grand-finals/GFRVEY6WRKXVSB2ERRJC52XPRI/

So the Raiders and Tigers will be seeking experienced playmakers, as will Parramatta with Dylan Brown’s shift to Newcastle in 2026. Martin, who has played 93 NRL games (20 tries) and seven test matches, is likely to appeal to various clubs, which will also be aware of his utility value.

Warriors wait on Ryan Gannon

Despite interest from the Warriors, who offered a three-year deal, it appears that Leeds youngster Ryan Gannon will remain in England. The Warriors were excited about the potential of Gannon, a skilful, ballplaying lock who made his senior debut as a teenager, but the 21-year-old is a highly prized asset at the Yorkshire club, despite a history of concussions that saw him take an extended break from the game last season.

Jye Linnane

The Warriors have high hopes for Newcastle youngster Jye Linnane, signed on a three-year deal from 2026 onwards. He is a talented running five-eighth, with plenty of strength for his size (1.79m, 89kg), who has impressed through the grades with the Knights.

However, it is a gamble on potential, given Linnane has yet to play for first grade. The 19-year-old has also suffered ACL injuries in each of the last two seasons (both knees). Linnane is the nephew of former Dragons and Newcastle half Steve Linnane, who played 118 Winfield Cup matches between 1984-1991, including the 1985 NSWRL Grand Final.

Kalyn Ponga

Despite persistent online speculation linking the Warriors with Kalyn Ponga, there are no grounds to those rumours. While Ponga won’t be enjoying Newcastle’s current struggles, he is on a massive contract at the Knights until the end of 2027.

If an early exit became a possibility, there would be no shortage of interest across the NRL, though a chance to escape the Australian media spotlight might appeal, along with his well-documented New Zealand links. But the Warriors have had no contact with Ponga or his management team, and no rival club is permitted to enter negotiations until November next year.

That’s a great summary of everything going on.
Looks like this Linnane lad is taking TMMs spot in the squad.
I always thought Manu would never play for another NRL club other than the Roosters.
Looks like we are back at the drawing board.
What I like though is our big signings usually don’t have any rumours they just get announced so fingers crossed.

In saying that in that last post, watching the Galvin situation it seems that social media is just how younger people express themselves. He’s been playing well in nsw cup so could be frustrated that he’s not getting a shot, which is understandable. I just think if there’s opportunities out there for him that would be more beneficial to himself that the club should let him pursue those
360 was going with that narrative then I watched WWOS (the host's hotter than all Fox combined btw lol) and her and Freddy/Johns were like it's unnecessary for players to go on social and start a pile on, which I agree with (Taruva's now like oops it's only for my fam) keep your opinions to yourselves and prove your point via action on the field, you guys are professionals not high school drama queens, and 99% of players stay professional.

For Boyd, what a timing to post that while rumors came out Cowboys want him? 🤣 Post something leading half the fans to "read it wrong" then possibly play the victim. "Trust the process" can be interpreted as referring to Webby. How about just post something positive and universal with him running on the field with captions saying "motivated" or "up the wahs," how hard is that?

Look at the halves playing up this year, Brown, DCE, Galvin, and now this lol. Did they put Jett straight to 7 this weekend? If it's a nothing burger then that's fine but if he wants out I'd release, we learnt the hard way from brownie gate last year

I have a good feeling about Linnane, we probably have a good chunk to give Charnz the 3 year deal he's after, but would be terrible to sit on a pile of money without upgrading your squad, late April's our marquee signing month, do something Cameron!

I get the feeling we are in that inbetween space with CNK. Need him for depth at a minimum given outside back stock, not sure he's the future at FB - plenty have been calling for him to be moved to center or wing previously, don't really have anyone coming through as reliable as him yet though TT could be a revelation if given enough games there in a row. SO we kind of want him but don't want to pay him as much or for as long but if we don't we are struggling for numbers.

Have added the list of players free to negotiate elsewhere from Nov to the pinned post now.

Off Contract from 01/11/25: Rocco Berry, Tanah Boyd, Kurt Capewell, Chanel Harris-Tavita, Jacob Laban, Freddy Lussick, Luke Metcalf, Marata Niukore, Taine Tuaupiki, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck

Myself, I'd like to get another two years on Rocco and Laban, and one year for Chanel and Taine, but otherwise happy to see how the others go next year and if they find a deal elsewhere before that, so be it.
i might be the minority but i would be fine with most of this list leaving lol.. definitely keep Laban and Taine, impartial to RTS and CHT, then the rest can go

They could give him his 3-year with nice but not ridiculous money with the condition he plays the super-sub role where he covers for Taine when injured, or FB for wet rugby games, and at other times he can be full time bench covering basically the whole backline + lock (which I've been advocating forever), CHT can cover for Egan and CNK 6 if needed

Healey might not be happy though lol, but what can you do, we don't have that big signing.

The question I want to know is.
How much do we upgrade Metcalf?

Do we offer him 1 million? We have the cap space.
Come November, he’s going to get other offers. And he’s going to get a pay increase. And the way the market is atm. Who knows how stupid it’ll get.

Depends on how he progresses, if still like game 1-5 we release him 🤣 Quite hard to say, but I think a million is ridiculous (not having a go at you), how many halves are on a million right now? Maybe $700K? Make him repay the US rehab trip if he's forgetting that

PS apparently you can always upgrade the contract midway when players are doing well

The market for halves can only sky rocket when expansion happens

It already has. If trades were a thing, Boyd and TMM would have already double in trade value this season without playing NRL!

I think we simply need CNK next season, there is no one better on the market for next season. Even if Taine does take the fullback spot, CNK can play anywhere in the backs at a decent to good level. If he goes, the cash in our back pocket means nothing when we already are struggling to fill cap spots for Harris and Walker. If I was CNK, a 3 year deal in the south of France would be hard to turn down.

My preference would be to let him go.
I would back Taine in the 1 jersey next year and have Rog as back up.
Would give us time to find another FB if we needed to if Taine doesn’t work out but I have confidence in Taine.
We have our centres covered in Ali, Pompey & Berry.
With respect I don’t think Charnze is a winger as well so signing him again would be for injury cover and the money he would want would be too much for a non starter imo.

It is such a shit place to be in right now. The squad isn't good enough, yet it is becoming increasingly evident that it is more difficult than ever to fill empty spaces on the roster, which leads to massive conundrum when it comes to retaining the roster we already know is not up to it (by it, I mean top 4-6).

Look no further than the difficulties in replacing Montoya. Wings should be a dime a dozen, but that is a spot that we haven't been able to fill.

The club is between a rock and a hard place for this stuff. For that reason alone I'd resign a settled TMM and grant Boyd a release. If we release TMM and then Boyd wants out then it is yet another gap to fill without any good options.

Man we need a couple of wins in recruitment.
