We will, but it becomes that bit harder
Thanks for taking that well. i was being a difficult person. There was nothing wrong with your post.
I was being a stickler.
If we beat the Raiders we have a 1 in 5 chance of making the playoffs
If we lost we have a 1 in 20 chance
Both are outside chances and both still possible.
I apologise for any inconvenience my post caused. Maybe I need a wine.

And you do not want to compare his stats with JFH. I get it, people want to think they are getting an upgrade.

I think it's a major upgrade, not even a discussion point in my mind.

It is more than what is produced on a stats sheet.

Yes, AFB puts up some of the best numbers in the game, but somehow we play worse when Barny is not there and better when he is there. It's about leadership and mana - two things I think AFB seriously lacks...

My expectation is that others players will lift playing behind JFH and Barny, which to me is worth much more than a stat sheet stuffed of post contact metres from one individual.

Good clear rebuttal using plain english. I approve. I might not agree with your points. But I like your posting style immensely.

I had the pleasure of meeting a few of the boys yesterday at the airport. Resisted the temptation to get a photo with DWZ, which would have been proudly hung on the mantelpiece for visitors to view, or added to my LinkedIn. I regret not getting one, but at the same time, it would have been an invasion of privacy

Little-known facts:
1. Webby is a unit!!!
2. Egan and CHT look like good buddies
3. Same with Lussick and DWZ. A group of players & management were hanging out together
4. The coaches arrived early and sat together, but got on with the players
5. They must get tired of the travel. No direct flight to Canberra, so it must get taxing

Hard not to just start chatting as if you actually know them.
A bit like when someone meets the actor that plays Ross off friends and tries to chat to them as if it is actually Ross and they are his mate
Saw Webby at the Chch games and he's a much bigger dude than he looks on tv for what it's worth. Jazz is even smaller somehow but I wouldn't want him flying at me out of a cannon.

My view on AFB vs JFH

AFB is clearly better and stats really matter at the end of the day.
But putting stats aside JFH is a far better defender and as such is an enforcer where Addin is not an enforcer. JFH puts incredibly bruising tackles in that make me wince on TV when I watch them. I would be happy to be tackled for $100 by Addin I would not want to be tackled by JFH for any sum of money.
Addin also plays much longer minutes while JFH regularly plays 45-50 minutes.
I don't think the intangibles JFH brings as a three time premiership winner in terms of mana and team talks in the leadershp matter at all when we already have RTS and SJ who are bigger legends of the game than JFH is.

They are very different props. AFB is probably only slightly behind Haas as a ball runner and is our 2nd highest try scorer this season. He gets a fair bit of flack for his attitude but he’s probably our biggest X factor and he’ll be missed.

That being said we’ve nabbed the best possible replacement in JFH on less money who seems extremely motivated to come home. He’s more mobile than AFB and more intensity on defence. Will lead the line speed with Barney and will play an up tempo game as well as leadership.

Rog and Shaun aren't getting us wins though. Gutted to lose Addin because he's our best prop, but not a leader apparently, as far as we know anyway. We're all just rationalising with the Addin/Fish comparisons to make us feel better, lot more factors than just them to get us wins. Wingers actually faster than their opponents would help too so Webby has more options than just crafting attack from the red zone, that's such a low reward model if we don't get it technically 100% right.

Great post. I think we call align behind this summary.

Webby is a lot bigger than I thought. I imagined him being a (somewhat) skinny white guy. But he is actually quite tall, and big bodied. Not as fit/muscly as Roger, but similar height and broad shouldered
I remember seeing him before a trial game years ago when he was here as an assistant and mistakenly thought he was one of the players.

I read somewhere that part of his routine was hitting the gym before the players arrive. Might have been an article from Michael Burgess in the herald I think?

I didn't take any offence to it don't worry

Yes big gym buff
Hits the Gym at 5:30am alarm on at 5am
Meets the coaching staff at 7am for coffees and to plan the day of training.
Meet the team at 8am
The Warriors are early starters. I am not a morning person.
Most professional sports teams I have heard of make everyone start early. They see it as a virtue to uphold of some sort.
All of this was in of the pre-season videos the Warriors released about a day in the life of Webster.

1. SJ won't be there
2. Legend status is what is irrelevant
3. You cannot seriously be saying that what the captain of the Kiwis will bring does not matter.

Come on Wrighty...

I was inspired by your straight plain english lucid posting style and tried to follow suit. All the top business people I have worked with over my 25 year career talk like you do. No games with semantics. Yes means yes and No means no.

Yes I retract that comment about JFH - his intanglible will matter but if SJ and Roger havn't fired up the boys this year then JFHs mana won't next year either. Being a legend is Relevant. Shaun Johnson has age group footy competitions named after him. He is a legend while he is still playing. Wasn't RTS a Kiwis captain too? or no?

This is better debated in another thread - unless JFH lines up for us this week? (I wish).

But my point stands that if the team reacts the way they do to Barny, then I expect the same with JFH.

And don't get me wrong about AFB, he is absolutely vital to this 2024 team - but I suspect we will not miss him as much as others think.

Games are won up front according to everyone ever, a front rower driving standards on the field might be more influential than Shaun in the halves, we'll find out next year Wrighty.
