NRL NRL General Recruitment Thread

What's the latest on the rumours around being in trouble again?

Have heard from a reliable source that Cobbo got in another domestic type incident and was arrested in the last couple of weeks, amongst telling the officers he wanted to kill himself.

I’ll be livid if we sign him. Guy is an absolute shitfight off the field

I think they will back young Zac Laybutt at centre. He looked exceptional before getting injured in 2024.
Murray Taulagi definitely has one wing, but both centre positions look up for grabs. Didn’t think Vailea cemented himself and Braidon Burns is the other listed centre. They’ve recruited Jaxson Paulo and he’s a big body, so he could be a centre or wing?

He’s got 4 games for cowboys in 2023 and 2024 so will be looking to build on that. Good tackle efficiency and decent running metres in both seasons in those 4 games per season could definitely see them back him. Who’s the other centre if Laybutt is one?
Firstly the reason I am backing Laybutt is that there was buzz in the media about him when he has some break through games. I am sure he would have gotten 15 games plus had he been healthy

Who should be the other centre?
Not Vailea. He finished the season well but was too raw and green in his first few games and first impressions matter.
I would go burns for his experience. I don't see them trusting Paulo who looks like he hasn't played NRL in a while anywhere except wing.
Vaillea to be first drop injury cover for centre
What are your thoughts.???

Robert Derby and Laybutt have played together on their edge in reserve grade and know each others game. Not so much big as in weight, but both tall. That’s why I could see Cobbo playing centre, because they are a bit slim there. Losing Holmes as their kicker means that’s something they need to consider too in team selections

Is it just we have contract problems and we can't make big moves this year?

A lot of teams seem to be signing players and we've gotten Boyd.

100% yes to Staggs. I hate the bloke but only in a begrudging way because he plays for the Broncos and I want him to be shit, but he's a fucking animal.

100% no to Hazelton.

Staggs is living off several amazing tries from a couple years ago IMO. Doesn't look for work often, goes missing, defense is OK without being good. Should have stepped up last year but was pretty poor for a "star". He would also be so expensive - I would pass on him even if he was a viable option (I don't think he is BTW).

We represented in a few of these, TMM viewed as the best halve available for 2026, CNK 2nd best fullback available, Tohu 2nd best middle available and Pompey and Kosi in top 10 for centre and wing respectively. Really interested to see what our plans are regarding TMM and CNK being such important positions and them both great players

Should be prefaced with a "Clarkey" warning

Yeah not sure I agree with some of the standings in the top 10’s but just more interested in where we’re seeing some players in our future moving forward. Would imagine that players who haven’t been extended yet have the opportunity to do so by impressing in 2025, but the ones that have are obviously considered apart of where we see ourselves heading? TMM is the biggest head scratcher for me

Hopefully TMM dropped some of his crays off at Webby’s house for Xmas to get in his good books 😂

Finding that hunting segment of TMM’s on the Warriors instagram and his own interesting. Almost like there’s something that the club have been involved in that’s a big interest of his? Wonder if there’s an offer on the table? Would imagine that other clubs are interested? Seems like he loves it at home, but a couple of years on good money could be of interest to set himself up?

I do wonder how much TMM has left in him as well. His run of form this season was elite level and then to get the neck injury was unfortunate. He has been through a fair few disappointments with injuries and then comebacks from them just to get injured again. He has his business with his gym, his hunting and fishing, etc. Seems to be a well liked member of the team and genuinely happy with others achievements. I hope he is extended and plays well. We need players that have the ability to produce attacking opportunities against well drilled NRL defences. If he wants to play on I think with the shortage of halves someone would pick him up. But would it surprise anyone if he retired from NRL either?
