Got as far as reading page 4 of this thread so no doubt been covered plenty already however same problem as last week - our right edge defence is completely shot, a decent side will thrash us. As has been his entire career, DWZ offers great finishing & otherwise is a huge liability. We need to replace his sorry arse before next season. Now the positive - surely Leka is a lock for rookie of the year, what is this kids ceiling as he matures???

Yep

At present the most simple drill in all of footy "hands" is enough to score untouched in the corner.

Just dreadful.

Being at the game with Knights fans giving it to us all night — couldn’t care less that we stole it. Have some of you fans been supporting us for 5 minutes? We’ve copped more heartbreaking losses from ref howlers or Xavier Coates miracle finishes than I care to remember.

At this stage of the year, it’s all about the W. Look at the Raiders — been ordinary for a month outside of one half against the Eels, yet they’ve kept banking wins.

We just broke our club record for most wins in a row in NSW, on the same weekend our NSW Cup boys smashed a record of their own. The club’s humming.

TT has been outstanding at the back, RTS is eating up metres for fun, JFH has gone up another level, and the young guns are starting to lead the way too.

But Capewell and DWZ can’t be part of the solution come finals. Capes is battling — that knee’s clearly not right. Lost count of how many times he was trying to run off a limp.

CNK to centre and TT at the back is clearly our best option. Will it happen? Probably not. And if Boyd struggles, I’d even consider TT in the halves alongside CHT, over TMM.

The Titans will come hard this week after Des’s spray. If you’re heading to the game Saturday, get behind the boys and scream your lungs out!

The maddest few minutes of Tanah Boyd’s NRL career have steeled him for bigger challenges on the horizon, namely his first taste of finals football.
Boyd, the former Gold Coast playmaker who joined the Warriors at the end of last season, was the most relieved man on the field at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday when his teammate Leka Halasima scored a miraculous try after the full-time siren to clinch a 20-15 win against Newcastle.

Last-gasp Halasima try stuns Knights at home

AFLW countdown: Even the best make mistakes

A sensational last-minute try from Leka Halasima has seen the New Zealand Warriors clinch an incredible 20-15 victory over the Newcastle Knights. The Knights, who led for much of the game, were left shattered after Halasima's solo effort in the ...

With the game in the balance after a Boyd penalty goal in the 68th minute locked scores up at 14-all, the 24-year-old halfback fired off two unsuccessful shots at field goals and then missed a straightforward penalty attempt in the penultimate minute.
But just as Knights fans were preparing to celebrate a desperately needed victory, Boyd had another long-range crack at field goal on the last play of the game, which was blocked by Newcastle’s Jackson Hastings.
In frenetic scenes, the ball bounced opportunely for 19-year-old Halasima, who produced a weaving, tackle-busting 45-metre run to score the matchwinner and save Boyd from a world of pain.
“It was definitely a rollercoaster, but yeah, I’m happy we got the two points, obviously, and I’ll learn from those situations,” Boyd said.
“It was a bit of relief for myself. I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t ice those moments, but you know, that’s footy, I’ve got to learn from those. I’ll be better for it.
“I’m just proud that we stuck in there and came up with a good win.”

Boyd - who has kicked 117 goals across his career at almost 80 per cent, as well as three field goals - was almost in disbelief over his missed penalty when the Warriors were trailing 15-14.
“I was pretty disappointed in myself with that,” he said. “I pride myself on my goalkicking. I’ve just got to be better in those moments. Again, it’s all learning and I’ll be better.”
Warriors coach Andrew Webster said it was important that Boyd, who delivered a try assist, four goals and a line break against Newcastle, kept demanding the ball when the pressure was at its most intense.
“Lots of halves are going to be in that situation where you’ve got to have that big moment at the end,” Webster said.
“But he just wanted to keep having a crack at it, which is the best sign. He didn’t hide.

“He wanted to keep going … by his standards, he still didn’t feel great, to be fair.
“He’s got high standards and he wanted to ice those moments. That won’t define him, that’s for sure.”
Boyd, who played 69 top-grade games for the Titans between 2019 and last season, was released from the final 12 months of his contract to sign a two-year deal with the Warriors.
After biding his time in their NSW Cup team, he became the right man in the right place at the right time when Luke Metcalf, the early-season Dally M points leader, suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Metcalf’s cruel setback left many querying if the Warriors would inevitably fall in a hole, but instead they have strung together back-to-back wins against Wests Tigers and Newcastle with Boyd calling the shots at first receiver.
Now Boyd is on track to play in the finals for the first time, with the Warriors well placed to seal a top-four position.

“It’s been a great move,” Boyd said. “I feel like my game has gone to the next level, and I’ve learned so much from the coaching staff here.
“It’s a great environment to be around. The boys are so connected, and it’s a real happy group to be around, so it’s a real good feel.”
Just a few weeks earlier, however, he had been wondering if and when he would be required, given the hot form of Metcalf and his halves partner, Chanel Harris-Tavita.
“There were definitely times when I wasn’t sure whether I was going to [play], but I had to be a good clubman and make sure I was turning up every day and preparing for NRL and make sure that the NSW Cup side was winning,” Boyd said.
“That’s what I prided myself on, and I just made sure that when I did get my crack, I’d be ready. That’s here now, and I’m going to try and take it with both hands.”

Warriors score after the full-time siren to break Newcastle hearts

Webster said the Warriors were lucky to have a player of Boyd’s experience to call upon after losing Metcalf.

“We’re always disappointed when you lose a player, but you always celebrate a guy that comes in and is as consistent as what he [Boyd] is,” Webster said.
“I think he’s just going to improve every week, Tanah. The team’s going to get better because they’re going to get used to him.”

agree, I know it may sound being picky, but should always be looking for support, also I noticed that leka didn't have a mouth guard, thought it was mandatory?

I have no issue with Boyd..so the guy missed a couple of drop goals under huge pressure..and did a bad restart that went dead.we have all seen Sj and Pompey do much worse multiple times...I like the look of him he will be fine.
i have no issues with Boyd because ...

WE WON!!!

All is forgiven. thanks to Leka...
I hope Boyd buys him a free dinner for getting him out of jail...

Pompey most underrated player in our team solid as without him this year we would be cooked as berry and Ali are both injury prone. See Ali played fullback in nsw cup don’t understand that as he certainly won’t be fb in nrl team.
Ali player at 6, Doyle played at fullback. He made some great hits on D but still a week or 2 away, although we may need him after seeing Capes look busted yesterday…

agree, had good vibes about him when I first learnt he was coming to us, see him as solid, dependable great at moving us around the field, operates well under pressure, good goal kicker, reasonable tackler etc, have so much trust in cuddlez to get the best out of tb, as a lot are saying just give him time to bed in, watch how he'll grow here under webby, he da man!

There's an interview with Webby on Newstalk ZB this evening that you should be able to listen on demand. Very honest and informative and started to talk about how they can improve on their edge defense, but said he can't give away too many secrets. Also said he thought he was watching the All Blacks when they awarded the Greg Marzhew try 🤣.

Stacey can just show Boyd his missed conversion goal against the bulldogs in 2001.

Heck, don't even have to look past all Metcalfs missed goals that put us under a lot of pressure in a lot of games.....and I am not having a dig at Metcalf, I want him to keep trying.

The whole thing about this game is that Tannah did a lot of good stuff, especially keeping us calm and controlled in that second half where he led the team to keeping the Knights pinned a lot.

I am very happy with Boyd so far and anticipate he will do us well if his partner can work out how to play off him.

One thing I noticed this game was our team did not form good block shapes when Boyd dug into the line, we were much better at supporting him the week before, especially the V shape the outsides form in the block play that suits Boyds running game.

I thought Boyd did a really good job of hiding his emotions from his mates when things were going wrong, he is calm like that, you could tell he was disappointed but he didn't let it show too the point where it starts affecting other people.

Nah the way he was flying and last play of the game it was do or die, I checked Knights had scrambling players around Dallin and Demi as well

Matt Johns said Best should have tackled his legs, I do wonder if that’s possible, maybe Leka was too quick in front of him to launch

Dan Ginnane signed off the 360 show by saying he was the only one in the league who can score that, thankfully the following podcast devoted the segment to the climax
