General Jersey Flegg 2025

🤖 Thread Summary

The discussion centers around Warriors youth team matches, particularly focusing on the U21s competition where young halfback Jack Thompson serves as both player and captain despite being only U18. Leon Black #196655 provided detailed live updates of several matches, including a heavy 48-12 loss to the Storm where he criticized Thompson's last-tackle options and noted poor defensive efforts. The conversation revealed ongoing debates about Thompson's potential, peewee #196660 questioning the hype around the young player after his poor performance.

Cces #196681 The Warrior Waka #196795 defended Thompson's prospects, emphasizing that he's still a schoolboy competing in an elite competition and noting the team's improved record since his inclusion. The discussion highlighted the Warriors' halves shortage as a significant issue affecting team performance, Leon Black #204505 who noted that while the forwards performed well, the lack of quality halves made a big difference in their 26-14 loss to the Bulldogs.

Recent match reports showed mixed results, Leon Black #207825 describing a devastating 60-22 loss to the Panthers where the defense was "softer than butter on a hot summer's day." However, the team bounced back with a strong 26-10 victory over the Eels, Leon Black #210438 praising emerging talents like Paea Sikuvea and Brandon Norris, urging the club to "lock these two up long term." The discussion consistently highlighted officiating concerns and the development of young players in the Warriors' junior pathways.

Sio scores in the corner, off the back of another huge run from our 13, standout player along with Jett. 16-12, conversion unsuccessful.

Could be 25 to play, clock runs but multiple drinks breaks.

Silktails no.11 scores off a pinpoint cross field kick from the tallest halfback ever seen, no.11 could be a basketball centre as well, 18 all.

Silktails hooker has a 5 ride card at the Suva Racecourse this arvo. Literally 4 foot at best. Gives away a penalty and on report for a crusher, couldn’t be a high shot!

Hanson dummies to kick on tackle 5, great run puts winger over in the corner. Both players getting attention. 22-18, kick is…..missed. 12 to go, maybe more.

Durban loose carry, ref didn’t agree with his claim of being stripped.

Must be a language issue, some comical plays recalled from Silktails.

Knock on caused by great line speed from Durban, 5 metres out from our own try line.

Silktails getting loose with some high shots and carry on, finally pinger when easily could have been many tackles earlier.

Cama in again, Jett and Hanson link up, 17 holds up defence and saloon passage for Cama. First win of the season very close. Clock says 81.51 but I’d say 7 or so mins left.

26-18

Is your feed any good?

Is your feed any good? My Bar Sports feed is very glitchy. Keep barely keep up with the play. Tough enough watching two teams with identical strips...

Thanks @Leon Black for the updates - good to read through these when lacking time to re-watch the game.

I think the Flegg team will be the last development team to improve as the Pathways continue to build. Cup is there and thereabouts, Matts has been a success beyond expectations, SG Ball is a work in progress (but with promising sides) and then, as Matts and SG Ball boys filter back into local comps / through to Flegg, the Flegg side will continue to improve.

Flegg is, in essence, the reserve grade side for our NSW Cup team - all the good Flegg-aged players are playing Cup - which is the same as how the Aussie clubs approach Flegg (at least as I understand it).

Anyone at the ground able to tell me how #16 from the Sharks is going? Christchurch raised & pretty sure he went through St Thomas'

I tuned in for the second half again, just like last week, they did jersey swaps at halftime and ended up losing 28-22. The completion rate after the break was atrocious.

They’re a tough watch right now—you’ve got to let them make mistakes and grow. Still, I have some question marks around the coaching staff.

If you watch the youngest team that’s been successful, the contrast is clear—they’re far more structured and disciplined. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mat’s coach, TJ, move up sooner rather than later.

Young Gordon Afoa stepped up from Mats last season, which was the silver lining. He looked good at lock. Anyone know if he is related to Bunty?

What is our thoughts on Tylah Blake? Played NZ Barbarians U18 a couple years back, could have good potential...
He's a halfback in union so not sure how well that will translate to playing in the halves in league

I rate it though.

Rather us chase and develop these guys as halves instead of the kids coming from the usual rugby league nurseries, who cant throw a spiral pass or kick more than 30 meters
