Not sure if previously mentioned , but Fisher- Harris averages c. 47 mins on the field - who captains the side for the rest of the game? Most of the outstanding captains spent most of the time on the park e.g. Smith, Grant, Criteon, Yeo, Cleary, Teddy, Ponga, Hunt etc.

I noticed this posted to the Warriors Facebook. Does anyone know who the guy talking is, and will this be the first grade captain and leadership group he is discussing?

Damnit, the link didn't work - looked ok when I copied and pasted it. I can't find it on the Warriors Facebook page now either but it was one of those short video "stories" that appears up the top when you open Facebook, above the actual news feed.

There was a guy in Warriors kit (staff member, not a player, but I didn't recognise him) who appeared to be addressing a playing group at training (but the group wasn't pictured) and he said something along the lines of "we are going to do something different this year with our captaincy but we are going to have one main leader and his attention to detail..." Video cuts off.

If it was the main team's captaincy announcement I would have expected that to come from Webby so perhaps one of the lower grades.

Ah just found it again and the guy talking says "at this grade it's good to try and grow some leaders within our group" which makes me even more sure this is not first grade related. Sorry all, it appears I have wasted some of your reading time, lol.

That's TJ Ashford, Harold Matthews coach.

After watching an interview with Capewell this came up in my feed. He has a few good takes sprinkled in with a lot of weird ones.

I think Barnett is the most likely option unless he doesn't want it. I can see Webster potentially going with Fisher-Harris. Or Fisher-Harris taking over when this appointment retires or moves on.

His argument about kids wanting to play for the Warriors I think is a bit out there. My kids the last few years have been more drawn to DWZ, Johnson or some of the other players. The captain hasn't been a big concern.

He then goes on about an Aussie coach selecting an Aussie as captain and vice captain. If they are the right person to lead us to success I don't care about their nationality. This is a daft as the times the club has wanted to be a NZ only club and take it to the Aussies. Even with our development strategy there will be some areas we will likely need to recruit.

Tony Kemp is a bitter bitter man

Tony Kemp is a bitter bitter man
When Tony Kemp used to be a colour commentator nobody knew what he was saying. It was a word salad of words and sentences that didn't make a lick of sense. It was not that I disagreed with his points it was just that there was no understanding what his points were. So if he is a bitter man now and gives that impression I am pleased for him as it sounds like his communication cogency has improved leaps and bounds if any sort of impression can now be discerned about him.

Yeah his take on captaincy seems to be based on your highest profile player who'll attract kids and sponsors. If that was the case SJ wouldve been captain the last 10 years.

Then again its Kemp and for every good point he makes there's a half dozen nutjob ones. I do sort of agree with his other interview on why the Warriors will struggle to make the 8 however.

Unfortunately its the likes of his old school Kiwi first mentality which is a common theme amongst our amateur run NZRL game that cost us one of the greatest coaches of all time from taking the reins of the Kiwi Test side........and that worked out great didnt it.

Doesn't do any harm to have practical experience /knowledge though.
In fact in most cases it is extremely important.
In most cases the reverse of your post is actually true
I don't mind Devlin so much. He is a general sports broadcaster. Kemp was a good player, terrible coach and just as bad 'expert' league commentator. Some of his ideas are just absolutely baffling.
The difference is that Kemp was a pretty good first grade player who was a shit coach.
(one of many) over the years.
Devlin has done neither and talks as though he knows everything about the game.
Some practical experience would do wonders for him ,his audience and others. Know what I mean 😏
