He also alleged police did not inform the doctor of his legal rights.

The Epsom MP also criticised police for contacting Polkinghorne’s private psychologist to ask for his diagnosis and appointment schedule.

“Again, this is highly inappropriate I would have thought and quite invasive to Mr Polkinghorne’s privacy and welfare,” wrote Seymour.

Must be pretty disappointing for police to have a senior politician criticising their practices in what seems like a murky case to say the least

Well it depends. Did they read him his rights, mistreat him and try to access his private medical records or not?

No one’s answered if he was actually justified in being involved or not? THAT is actually the role of electorate MP’s in a democracy.

What’s clear to me is it was politically daft but was aimed at perceived breaches of rights rather than influencing prosecution decisions.

If I was being mistreated by police I would hope Seymour was my MP and actually did his job rather than any MP’s from the left!

As noted earlier, I think Seymour should have given it a swerve.

Having said that, he wasn’t the police minister at the time (therefore not to be confused with his current role), and the guy ended up not guilty (but was obviously guilty)

Seymour should learn his lesson about what sort of person he wants his brand associated with. I think the biggest fallout will be in his electorate, where Polkinghorne is a pariah

With it coming to light of him being a political donor, it does give a perception that you can buy a politician to be in your corner as I don’t think Seymour would do this for just anyone

Yes. Someone solely on income tax might get a low rate; but business in NZ is one of the highest tax rates in the world. Other countries may have a CGT but they might not have our brightline.

We also have a big 15% GST which other countries don’t have… add that 15% onto a top tax rate and it’s up there.

All swings in roundabouts and the whole package is what matters and how it suits each country.

Australia have 10% GST and Pay no tax on the first 18,000. That is way better for the people at the bottom who are struggling! Even under Labour the thought of lower taxes would make them vomit!

‘The party’s leaders wrote to authorities last year asking for the investigation “in order to prove our innocence”

High powered party leaders instructing the investigation to ‘prove innocence’ is 10x worse than what Seymour did and setting clear outcome expectations before the investigation.

… but I won’t expect the left on here or media to call for TPM resignations because that’s not how the political games work

Asking for an investigation in order to prove innocence isn't the gotcha you are trying to present here.

Its literally asking for independant verification of them not doing anything wrong? Is that not a good thing?
