We need to fix the housing market then (unleash supply, drop the RMA, reduce council and compliance costs, etc) instead of just paying everyone more because the systems broken, which causes the system to break even more.
The situation the country finds itself in at the moment is showing how ridiculous the timing of tax cuts delivered have been and the overall nothing impact it’s had on people’s budgets for the inflation it’s potentially added to in regards to paying everyone more because the systems broke. National has now run 4 most recent elections on delivering tax cuts, won 3 of them and finally delivered them at a time when the country could least afford them

Apparently the Maori party has sent a letter to all fast track applicants stating they will overturn the legislation once in power.

Economic sabotage effectively killing any potential investment.

This sort of clown move makes us the laughing stock of the economic world, destroys investment decisions and condemns us to a low standard of living.

It’s this sort of thing that directly leads to more of our kids abandoning the low pay, low growth NZ and heading to Australia.

And how would we have been with Labours wealth and capital gains taxes?

Is the economic (not political) issue we’re in going to be solved by economic growth (more private spending, investment, less tax, etc) or more govt growth (more tax, bigger public service)?

Is the answer prioritising the public sector or private sector?

Mate, take me back to 2017 when we had significantly lower taxes than now, better govt services and a rock star economy… 🤣

It all went wrong when Labour taxes everyone to death and killed the golden goose economy.

The high tax experiment failed miserably as the country couldn’t support it.

Between 2017 and 2020 the country was actually ina really strong position and optimism was high. What seems to get tiptoed around and doesn’t seem to get acknowledged is a worldwide pandemic arrived that had consequences for not only us, but the world as a whole. It’s acceptable for the current government to use the previous government for their poor results but the previous one doesn’t seem to get afforded the same treatment for what they inherited. It can be debated whether covid was handled well, but I get the feeling with how the results of the inquiry have been shelved for the public not to see that they will be largely complementary towards the previous government or this government would be dining out on the negative findings. A small country like ours is always going to take longer to recover from such a shock to the economy. What I find interesting is Ireland. In the middle of covid they were in real trouble economically, now they find themselves as one of the best performing countries in the world. It looks as though they are viewed as a tax haven at present? I find it interesting the current government talking about giving powers to kiwibank and wonder if we’re heading down the same path for big money to be parked here? We were viewed as such in 2016 and wonder if it’s something we’re going back to?

Gees I hope not..... but stranger things have happened before.

They talk about this current government being the Coalition of Chaos.... I wonder if those people saying that have stopped to consider the alternative Greens/Labour/TPM and how fucked the country would be then?
Two activist parties with genuine communist ideology & a weak arse Labour party struggling for identity. I don’t think they’ll be in power any time soon.
Re the shenanigans at the Northern Club with NZ First - is there a less admirable type of human than the champagne socialist?? That video of the Judge is hilarious, what a self righteous plum voiced dickhead.

Would you park your money here when economic illiterates are actively trying to sabotage economic growth and while industries requiring huge investment can be shut down by a captains call.

We’re becoming a laughing stock with banana republic politicians making us un-investable, so moneys going to steer well clear.

Judge, celebrity doctor

My god some kiwi’s have got an inflated sense of ego. “Celebrity Dr” NZs actual celebs are basically anonymous let alone these losers.
Not sure if they asked the media to report them as such or if it’s considered by media they are judge and celebrity doctor?

The pandemic isn't glossed over at all. Everyone on here acknowledges that. What seems to be glossed over is the 2017-2019 years where there was no pandemic and afterwards the out of control spending. Comparing Ireland to us is not even close other than perhaps population. A comment form 2016 versus how they are structured with their corporate tax rates isn't even close either. We could do what they have done but considering all I seem to hear is that Big Corporates don't pay their share, I'm not sure that's going to wash.

Wouldn’t have parked my money in Ireland either with what they had going on, but people obviously have?

Correct, everyone forgets National was ahead in the polls prior to covid hitting (see attached). Labour inherited a rockstar economy and was about to be turfed out before covid.

Covid saved them, they doubled down on daft stuff and here we are

We have an epidemic of them in Australia. The Teals. A bunch of upper class woman leveraging the female / climate vote. Absolute embarrassment and are destroying the electricity grid and manufacturing base.
