General Your 2025 team

NZWarriors.com

Halves viewed as our achilles heel. Sounds like there’s not a view of any of our halves being suited to one another
The problem is they and everyone else is expecting a halves combo to come in and lift a team that has horrible numbers.

Barnett 11 runs 88m (being moved killed his prop play)
Capewell 6 runs 39m 9 mt
Marata 8 runs 63m

People ragging on Ford but at least he went 12 runs for 103m. JT in his prime would struggle to get productive numbers with a supporting cast like that.

Mate, to defend the team a bit I thought the Raiders were offside all game and in our face as we caught the ball.

Ref was too scared to call it at the premier Vegas showpiece so we paid.

Meh as someone else posted, teams take on the “qualities” of their coach. Well mate we are soft and weak and have been for a while now.
We didn’t do too bad not last season but the one before. Has probably come as a curse for Webster now over achieving in his first year and now expectations are high with the bandwagon followers slowly dispersing. Makes you consider just what level SJ played at in 2023 and how disgraceful that he wasn’t awarded dally m that season

The run meters weren't the problem in my opinion. The effectiveness and intensity of the runs is an issue. As a comparison our combined forward run meters including hooker and the bench were 773m out of a total of 1565 against the Raiders. Against the Panthers in magic round last year it was 713m out of a total of 1506. *based on NRL.COM stats

Main Issues (but not limited to this):
Ineffective second row that doesn't threaten with ball in hand and in this game was defensively weak
Poor use of our forward youth on the bench to provide impact
CNK having arguably his worst game in a Warriors game
A conservative and ineffective gameplan
CHT probably played to his ceiling and Metcalf was caught in the headlights which lead to a very poorly organised team - even on the backfoot you can organise.

I've had a few conversations over the last few days around this and was wondering what others thoughts are.

Obviously a lot of water to go under the bridge but based on the last three games and assuming we get everyone back fit, who do you pick as your two wingers?

A few things to consider here including running meters, try scoring, errors, defense, x factor etc

We have looked defensively better this year on the edges with TT and RTS on the wing and they both provide that elusive x-factor with their ability to step and create. Does DWZ walk straight back in to the team?

DWZ does 100%. Taine is wasted on the wing. But I’m looking to sign a long term replacement asap.

I like DWZ for his finishing and metres but is good for an error or two through over effort, and defensively he is exposed fairly easily. Last three games have made the two best wingers conversation tougher than previously. Let's see what the next few games bring. We have been exposed a little on the edges in the first three games so perhaps our results are masking a few issues. I think TT needs to be in the team somewhere but for who and what position?

Taine does give off big Fuller from the dolphins vibe. Great talent, not a young gun but not old. Can fill in any of the back 3 (wing or fullback), maybe even 6/7 if we really need it. But he has been doing a great job at the moment and scored at least one try i don't think DWZ could of done. And i wounder if DWZ would of seen that the defensive line was short and made the pass to leka, but then again DWZ does also have a lot of fullback experience.

I personally float a little bit towards DWZ getting in straight away. But that is to say i think we need to keep taine more than we need a lot of other players. Real tough question.

Graham Lowe wants "Joey" Lussick to replace Egan in the team because he was the standout performer in the preseason. If there was ever a case for someone to be institutionalised for their ramblings, this is a good case.

And a great example of why preseason games are useful as a hit out before the season starts and not an indicator of player or team form. Egan is in season leading form and we should pick Lussick based on games against the Sharks b and Storm c sides with nothing on the line :ROFLMAO:

Not sure how an Eels player could be a stand out for the Warriors in pre season.

Jokes about the incorrect name aside. I can't recall Freddy Lussick getting a huge amount of game time during the trials. If he wants something different out of dummy half Healy would be more of a point of difference with his running.

Also stood out in pre season. He's likely only talking about the trials. Where the coaching staff see them training as well. That is probably where Lussick stood out as he is known to be one of the fittest.

He won the Bronco thats about it.
Lucky footy teams aren't picked purely on Bronco times 😂

i watched that yesterday and when he mentioned Lussick my first thought was that he got the player wrong and must be thinking of Healy, who played well in the trials....
I was also thinking that when I was watching it. Can he tell the difference between them?
It also sounded like he wanted to get a selection change in there to show he had something they needed.

On getting the names wrong I nearly wrote Darcy Lussik instead of Freddy. I'd have criticised him for the wrong name while getting the wrong name.

Even if he got the player wrong, he wants Egan replaced who along with Erin Clark has probably been our best player so far this season.

All for the media to criticise the team or pick holes, but it seems hes just saying it because he has nothing else to say to provide some input. Egan deserves to be amongst the first players picked for the team based on what hes done to date.

If he had good ideas about the Warriors, he wouldnt have run the club into the ground when he was a part owner of the club.

The only concern I have for Egan is his workload.

Four games done, and we have a bye. So he's got a rest.

We have a 9 game run coming up before the next bye. I'd prefer to find some time to get someone on the bench to spell him on a few of those games.

This is more of a reflection of how important he is to us over such a long season.
