I give him the benefit of the doubt as it was a trial so maybe the cohesion wasn’t at its best with the halves calling where the ball should go.
But his passing needs work for sure imo.

Some of the latest videos on the Warriors instagram page are good watching. One is Barnett getting stuck into the team telling them they’re fit and ready to fire. Another is Metcalf talking about 40/20’s and having a joke about wanting to kick 6 in a game after Rich Agar kicked 5 in a game in England. Another is Metcalf saying it’s the best preseason he’s been apart of in terms of intensity. You often hear it but I think the boys are well up for this season, and think Metcalf is in for a big one

It actually reads well with the collated opinions of the noted forum posters, comes across as quite considered and is probably a good summation on the feelings around the team currently. Much better than any generic preview or going to facebook fans IMO

If nothing else, you’ll be able tell everyone I told you so if Metcalf doesn’t hold the 7 jersey and TMM is most effective there with it out there for all to see your view around the selection

I'm not a lone voice there in that regard. @Boats n Hoes also prefers TMM at 7 and LM at 6 in that article (he is obviously another wise and rational member of the forum) . I can't see Metcalf losing the 7 jersey unless through injury regardless of results.

For sure, we’re all entitled to our opinions. Not suggesting otherwise. I definitely like the look of TMM at fullback that many would disagree with. Selections are certainly going to be interesting, but as you say that Metcalf is locked in at 7. Personally not going to death ride any selections so that I end up being right, it’s a good headache that so many can fill multiple positions and I really hope Metcalf can stay injury free because I believe he’s in for a big one

He really deserves it, highly regarded for a long time and injuries have been cruel. Feel like Pompey is just starting to feel like he belongs too and excited to see Tuaupiki gain confidence and show what he can be. Feel like Metcalf is huge to the outcome of our season though and also excited to see what he can do. Vaimauga is another I’m watching with interest and Halasima seems very close and looks like there could be some X factor in both potentially

I think Boyd needs some gametime under his belt after being injured for the past few weeks.

I can see that spot being rotated throughout the season between Healey, Boyd and Lussick

That covers injury if we have no cover on the bench but doesn't help manage him through the games and season. I honestly don't think Egan playing 80 is anywhere near optimal for the team so we need a hooker sub in the bench

It's a way of not carrying a hooker on the bench. Bit of a qld thing when you have grant and hunt on at the same time. It's not foolproof but a point for discussion like this.

I agree with how it could work not having a bench hooker. My concern though is that we cant play Egan for 80 mins consistently all season and the best option is to utilise either a bench hooker or utility to spell him during games.

I would give him a rest by internally shuffling the starters and carrying the extra forward. It's all dependent on none of them being injured but. I don't mind carrying a hooker on the bench but the remaining three have to have middle edge and outside ability across the 3

There is a lot of versatility in the side, particularly in the backline. My opinion and thoughts are based on the general gameplan I think we should be playing. It's my belief that we can't have Egan playing 80 minutes, and that we need to utilise all our bench options more with better gametime for each of them. I'm not a fan of significant reshuffling of the side just to give a player a rest during the game. I also wouldn't be carrying a player like TMM on the bench who would be unlikely to get much gametime unless injuries occurred and we needed to reshuffle. Basically, we should be picking the side based on the gameplan and utilising the bench more. There is enough versatility in the side if we carry a hooker/utility on the bench to be able to cover most potential injuries if they occur, without having to specifically carry a player on the bench just for that sake.
