Give Metcalf a chance to take the reins. Webby has talked about him coming along on this front, and being our main man after SJ (as a 7). We haven't seen what he is going to offer us yet.

I don't really disagree with your points as a whole, but if Boyd is a great kicker (which requires vision), an excellent defender, a smart and dedicated team man, and has decent enough pace then what is he missing?
Shit or pedestrian at try assists, I think he played 7 games in 2024 before being dropped and had zero try assists.
2023 was a better year where he had 8 try assists in 21 games but 8 is nothing to write home about when the top halves finish a season with over 20 try assists. He doesn't create tries but who cares is my point as we need someone to get us around the park someone else like Metcalf at stand off can run the cutter in the red zone.

Sure. I just think a great kicker has vision and a read on the game that would be present with the ball in hand too. It makes me think that his kicking would be organised and solid rather than a massive asset.

Based on the limited games I have watched him in, my eyes say the same.

We agree. I use hyperbole a lot. Organised and solid in your vernacular is expressed in Wrighty's words as above NRL standard kicker.
I do think his kicking is going be roughly Shaun Johnosn kicking level which is very good. With better goal kicking than Shaun.

That's a big chunk of try involvements to put away just for an occasionally needed long kick which LM can probably do anyway.

You need long kicks frequently. We also want his goal kicking. As a number of people pointed out we lost 4-5 games this season where we scored more tries than the opposition but couldn't convert to save our lives. We can't have that happen again if we want to make top 4. We need an elite goal kicker. He is right up there and a fantastic acquisition from that one dimension. Admittedly there are other dimensions yes. Which makes him a good person to discuss on the forum.

He can kick a field goal, has some great acceleration and even looks like he's been a Warrior for years! 🤣

We rarely struggled to get up field. Our 7's from this season would seem to have a superior short kicking game than him. Yes we lost some games arguably because of goal kicking but you are trading 30 odd try involvements for a better goal kicker than CHT or Pompey. That's a lot of tries to not convert. Would TT or LM do a decent enough job instead?

I looked at Boyd's perceived strengths out of interest rather than trying to prove a point.

His tackle efficiency is almost identical to CHT, TMM and Metcalf

He has knocked over 3 FGs, one that wobbly close range one against us.

His goal conversion rate is a much of a muchness with CHT (despite recency bias), and Metcalf. Pompey too.

28 forced drop outs in his 69 game FG career.

Metcalf's tackle percentage is an optical illusion. Yes as mentioned he the same at defence as TMM and CHT without the bone crunching tackles.

His career goal kicking percentage is 79.41%
Pompey is 72.58%
CHT is 76.83% (should never goal kick again)
Metcalf is 76.92% (small sample only 10 goals)

ONe issue regarding the Halves is that last year there was a major difficulty in there being a consistency of selection i think SJ only played 3 consecutive games the last 3 rounds. As far as selecyions go a lot will depend on which players can complement each other especially as to which side they play.
