I think the modern game and the way it's evolved now almost require smaller fitter more mobile teams.
Maybe that's why smaller players like Kini and Tuaupiki are starting to break out so much.

There was always a place for the little man

- Langer
- Toovey
- Preston Campbell
- Bowen
- Hohaia

The game did seem to move away from it a bit but it is good to see more smaller zippy guys back in the game. The game needs more electricity and less crash and bash at times

Oh it is i love how Tuaupiki & kini have seamlessly it seems slotted into Nrl, both are exciting to follow.

It seems to be going that way, which is great. The little elusive guys brought so much to the game in yesteryear. Jai Field is still only 27, Bevan French 29. They may get a second dig at the NRL.

But sports isnt a field where you can just wait for more data points to increase the sample size. You get what, 25 games a season? We have already played 8% of our games.

We can’t accurately predict who will win the comp sure, but we can certainly make evaluations on a game by game basis.

Not to say those evaluations won’t be wildly inaccurate in the long run 😅
I don't think we are disagreeing. Your last sentence is my main point. I'm not saying you can't make evaluations, just that you can't put any stock in them at this early stage because there are so many random variables that can make extrapolating into the future difficult. For example, all it takes because of the competitive nature of the nrl is one major injury to turn a side from a potential top 4 one in the early rounds into a bottom 8 one (ie Turbo season ending injury in 2023 when Manly looked golden in the early rounds of that season). Alternatively you could have unknown internal factors derail a season like for Souths in 2023 when they were leading the comp before origin and subsequently missed the 8 altogether. I'm also sure we all remember the 2018 season where we were in the top 2 leading into the origin period before finishing the season in 8th spot and dropping out meekly in week 1 of the finals.

All of this is why I personally don't pay too much attention to where things stand until at least the start of the origin period when some level of uncertainty is resolved. I'll update my beliefs regarding the Raiders or the Dogs if they still maintain this level of performance by then.
