NRL NRL General Recruitment Thread

NZWarriors.com
There’s a bit of a joke on the cowboys forum that Payten likes a Warriors recruit. Wonder if he might look at a hooker from Warriors to replace Robson in 2026? We seem to have a lot of hookers in between our first grade squad and nsw cup? They do have Lawton heading there who was a dummy half for us at one point, perhaps he goes there after playing mainly 14 or second row at manly

Shit idk if I can answer all that wrighty but my general feeling is losing Harris, walker and capewell (I thought next year was his last tbh but for the purpose of this exercise) and their spots in the squad are taken by Neale, Crosby and iremia (for example) we would be looking pretty light on experience.
If u look at last years grand final sides-
There’s not a lot of rookies in that lot.
Alamoti is the outlier at 20 while tago, turuva and howarth are 22 (notice they’re all outside backs).
Every other player who took part in that game are aged between 24-30.
Hello Defence Defence I have thought about our conversation.
There used to be a 1970s tv show about a Harvard Law classroom and the travails of the students trying to pass.
In one episode they revealed that the key to doing well on the exam and analysing the case was naming and then answering the key legal question that was infered as the instructions in the exam were just "discuss the case."
I think this talk bout keeping our side experienced is not the core question to debate.
Your key sentence was "We once had a boomer crop coming through and we laid aside recruiting because of it but the future never arrived." IE I presume from your answer most didn't make first grade and those who did didn't make a ripple.
Now we are faced with the identical dilemma for our 2026 recruitment. Do we hold fire on recruiting the Briton Nikoras of this world in case the Halasemas of this world kick on the first half of 2025?
A good question my liege and worthy of an essay by a Harvard Law student.

My knee jerk reaction is that only Demetric and Halasema are really showing through. And the only two at the moment worth holding the door open for. All the rest of our youngsters are some distance away.
So if we hold the door open for Demetric and Halasema that means not actively recruiting any props or second rowers unless one falls into our lap for compasstionate home coming reasons. Is that acceptable to you if it is just delaying recruitment for only two players?

That blew my mind too, I assumed it was true and I must have missed it

Apparently at the end of his contract in 2027, if the tigers pay him $900k he has to stay. Anything less and he can negotiate with another team

Seems bizarre...so Tigers can chose what they want to pay him in 2027? Isn't the purpose of a contract to agree to a monetary value?

The guy whose handing out the contracts at the Tigers is obviously a basket case lol

Wests Tigers fullback Jahream Bula’s odd contract clause that could see him released early

David Riccio December 6, 2024 - 1:56PM

Wests Tigers rising star Jahream Bula could get out of his contract 12 months early due to an unorthodox clause that could also work in the club’s favour.

In yet another significant contract development at the Wests Tigers, Bula could be on the move at the end of 2026, despite the club heralding his re-signing through until the end of 2027.

Bula, who has played 39 games at fullback since making his NRL debut and being named the club’s best player in 2023, has a mutual option written into his contract at the Wests Tigers for 2027.

The mutual option involves the club being able to re-sign Bula in 2027 for the figure of no less than $900,000.

Under the terms, Bula is unable to reject the offer if the club wishes to keep him at the club for 2027.

The $900,000 offer will remain on the table until mid-May, 2026.

If the Wests Tigers believe Bula isn’t worth $900,000, the club has the power to provide the 22-year-old with the chance to test the open market for 2027.

This is where a rival club could blow the Wests Tigers out of the water.

However, if there is little appetite for Bula on the open market at that time, the option states that he can stay at the Wests Tigers for 2027, however at the reduced rate of around $800,000.

The Bula deal was orchestrated by both the previous club management of former CEO Justin Pascoe and the strike fullback’s former management team of Ultra Management.

Bula has recently linked with Cove Agency, led by Isaac Moses.

The Bula revelation pours a further spotlight on their entire spine with Lachlan Galvin (off-contract 2026), Api Koroisau (2026), Luai (2029, but with options to get out of 2026) and Bula, all potentially off-contract within the next two seasons.

The Tigers have made no secret of their desire to re-sign Galvin, the outstanding rookie halfback
