You’d hope they’d allow us at least a 7 day+ turnaround both sides of the game. Knowing the NRL. Nah.
Yikes, hopefully they NRL is still working on that private plane.

That’s a Fantastic idea. Now that PNG is confirmed. I hope they give their players as many top level runs as possible.
Using the Pacific championship over the next few years. Instead of 3 teams make it 4. No need for a final. Just 3 games at the end of the year. (I wouldn’t object to a final, I’m just saying)
Yeah Danny Weidler already raising concerns about the Cap.Signings for PNG won’t need to put income tax? That’s wild! The media LOLs and compares them to the dolphins situation - but that means a $1.1m player saves 550k annually (according to an SMH article I read quickly).
Does the NRL have a plan B if they manage to assemble an all-star FIFO team that dominates the comp?
Its nuts! A spine of the Hammer, Matt Burton, Mitch Moses and Reed Mahoney - all potentially off contract, or mix it about with a Sam Walker or a Critta - plus a juicy pay packet for quality-but-not-star NRL players to be the main core of the roster, with a few PNG talents to round it outYeah Danny Weidler already raising concerns about the Cap.
He has a valid point, they will have a 20m dollar salary cap.
If Cam George is smart he will request to play them n magic round in Brisbane each yearSo for us to get to PNG, it’s a 9 hour plane trip taking into consideration that we have to stopover in Aussie first which is absolutely ridiculous, with the NRL confirming they will play home games in PNG.
Not sure that this is the issue it is being made out to beYeah Danny Weidler already raising concerns about the Cap.

Wow, thanks for pointing that out.Not sure that this is the issue it is being made out to be
If you are an Australian taxpayer and move overseas to work you remain an Australian resident for tax purposes unless you establish a permanent home overseas.
How many players would establish a permanent home in PNG?
There is also this interesting legal decision
If your shouting, count me in!The next “big” question for the members of this forum……
Who’s going to make a trip over there?
I think there’s a pretty good chance of us being their inaugural match.
If we are their inaugural match. I’m there.
It’ll be historical and you’d have to assume that some pretty important people will be there so security will be everywhere. I think it’ll be magnificent.
I thought I read in the announcement they'll get an exemption. I only skimmed through the article but I thought vlandys mentioned the tax exemption saying it will help attract players, also that they were criticised for not giving dolphins extra cap space etcNot sure that this is the issue it is being made out to be

They'll probably make us walk the Kokoda trail to get there.Yikes, hopefully they NRL is still working on that private plane.
My reading was PNG was giving a tax exemption at their end which I assume is for PNG players who are PNG tax residents_

Nice one! Thanks for that. In that case, good luck PNGNot sure that this is the issue it is being made out to be

I’ve read if your overseas more than 150 days (half the year), set up a home offshore (in the NRL PNG compound) and it is longer term (eg 3 year contract) you would not be considered an Australian for tax purposes. Hence Australians playing for the Warriors pay NZ tax.Not sure that this is the issue it is being made out to be

Nor am I but I did complete this questionnaire on the Aussie Tax websiteI’ve read if your overseas more than 150 days (half the year), set up a home offshore (in the NRL PNG compound) and it is longer term (eg 3 year contract) you would not be considered an Australian for tax purposes. My understanding is NZ is stricter and if you spend 2 months back in NZ in a year you get caught as a NZ tax resident again so kiwis playing for PNG would need to be more careful in the offseason.
Obviously I’m not a tax expert so don’t quote any of this.
My workplace has an option to work remotely internationally which I’ve done a couple of times to extend a holiday in NZ, they cap it at 1 month per calendar year though for this very reasonI’ve read if your overseas more than 150 days (half the year), set up a home offshore (in the NRL PNG compound) and it is longer term (eg 3 year contract) you would not be considered an Australian for tax purposes. I'm sensing a good rivalry brewing.....David Moffett not holding back haha
