I would say that is very good analogy and at the moment he looks like Bailey Sironen level....but he is twenty one years old. and hinting at being classier, we need more tape.

There are three things I like about this player that are missing from the Warriors.

One he reads the play, comes up in support of the ball carrier at pace (Metcalf and Capewell when Capewell is at center have been showing a bit of that).

Two he looks to pass when in the clear.

Three, he passes left and right well.

All relate to having vision which is something you can teach but someone who has it naturally can take it a lot further.

Four, he has all of this without being put through a preseason with us.

I haven't watched him, admittedly, but if he's a stand out in super league, he should be pretty alright once he's integrated into our system.

He’ll be full of confidence that some nrl teams were offering contracts and he’s signed a deal with one of them
I noticed in one of the dressing room shots that he looked quite star struck by the older Leeds players.
I bet his family have been watching as many Warriors games as they can get a handle on.

In another shot you see him talking to his Mum and other family in the stands after the game, you can see a tall young kid grinning at him, I take it that is his brother who plays for Warrington.

Did not see this mornings game Leeds Vs St Helens.

Read the live score updates.

Gannon was sent for an HIA, I see he came back on in the second half (was registered for a knock on on their twenty meter line in what turned out to be a mistake-athon by Leeds).

Apart from an HIA (which is a worry) and a knock on, I can't say anything about how he played in a team that got ambushed by St Helens.

Apparently Leeds showed up expecting to win (note well Warriors). They got smashed.

NRL-bound forwards named in England train-on squad

NRL-bound forwards Morgan Gannon and Morgan Knowles have been named in an England train-on squad of Super League players to prepare for the end-of-season Ashes series.

Gannon has signed a three-year deal with the Warriors, while Knowles is set to re-unite with former St Helens coach Kristian Woolf at the Dolphins for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

England coach Shaun Wane has invited 32 players from Super League club to an off-feet squad session on Tuesday, including Gannon, who will join the Warriors next season from Leeds.

Morgan Knowles helped St Helens to World Club Challenge glory against the Panthers in 2023.

The 21-year-old Yorkshire-born son of former Balmain prop Jim Gannon, who settled in England after stints with Huddersfield, Hull KR, Widnes and Halifax, was one of six uncapped players in Wane's squad.

The others are Hull KR’s James Batchelor, Harry Robertson and George Delaney of St Helens, Leigh's Owen Trout and Rhinos forward James McDonnell, who has switched international allegiance after representing Ireland in the 2022 World Cup.

The squad includes Knowles, former Bulldogs prop Luke Thompson (Wigan) and ex-Raiders halfback George Williams (Warrington), who has been linked with a return to the NRL.

Superstar St Helens fullback Jack Welsby and Warrington backs Matty Ashton and Danny Walker are also included even though all three are currently long-term injury absentees.

"It’s been hard finding chances for the players to get together in such a busy Super League season, so it will be good for them to spend some time together thinking about the challenges ahead," Wane said.

“We’ve built a tight England spirit over the three years since the World Cup campaign, with successful home series against Tonga and Samoa, and staying in touch with all the players as I do, I know there’s a hunger and desperation to be involved against Australia at the end of this year.

“Bringing in some new faces who haven’t played for me before will show the competition for places that we have, especially when you add in the players, we have available in the NRL - and I’ve always said it’s up to the players to show me what they can do with their performances on a weekly basis.”

That's pretty cool, confirms they do have expectations for this kid

Gannon did his ankle last week.

Suspected fractured Tibia turned out to be a high ankle sprain. Which is good news. Out for another three to four weeks was the latest update (about a week ahead of initial predictions).
He’s picking up a bit of an injury sheet for such a young guy. Probably a bit of an exaggeration but biggest priority would be getting over the head issues that kept him out for a season which he seems to be

Yeah the ankle sprain doesn't sound like a bad one.

Leeds are stacked for good forwards, there is a risk for Gannon that he misses out on the finals if all their best forwards are available.

So on a personal note for him it is not good timing and from a Warriors pov it would be better if he was featuring in the finals....getting that experience.

Leeds had an important win overnight against Hull KR without Gannon, and I read in the team naming article that they had to drop a forward from their starting pack to make room for returning players.

Reading the recruitment thread around us needing fast outside backs, some desperate calls about NRL duds that cannot tackle.....if you are gonna go down that route you would be better off looking in Superleague for fast players that have good defensive stats, even if it is in Superleague than go for known NRL flops.

I think this has a lot of merit. SL have supplied the NRL with some genuine top calibre talent on the wing. Players like Brian Carney and Dominic Young spring to mind instantly..

Possibly the only 2 backs who have looked NRL level over the past 15 years to be fair. Plenty of wings and centres have come and flopped. I'd prefer we back our youth.
To say "plenty" is I feel somewhat disingenuous, I would say the fact is that NRL clubs only recruit SL players that will make a difference to their team over club development. Why else would they bother and what else could explain why there are actually so few SL recruits period..

Joe Burgess, Sam Tomkins, Ryan Hall, Oliver Gildart, Kallum Watkins, Will Pryce, Zac Hardaker with a quick search. Not many backs are recruited, and there is no doubt backs struggle to adapt, for real. Rabbitohs Dodd is the latest.

Forwards are a different story, we have seen that.
Yep the ESL for backs is not ideal.

I still prefer it as a gamble or a project over taking on known problem children for our lack of pace out wide from within the NRL rejects or barely loved pile.
