Sports Auckland 2024 A-League Team

They're doing great job of the marketing and culture.
Much better than the Phoenix (but not up there with the Warriors 23/24)

If they can keep up the results...

Also with Oceania getting the direct World Cup slot in the future, football could really explode.

Rugby Union must be looking at this and thinking ... what did we do wrong when soccer and rugby league are attracting 20,000 + crowds. The last Akld NPC game was played at a school, not a stadium.
The NPC final crowd was appallingly bad.
20 or 30 years ago NPC big games were getting crowds of 20 to 30k.

The big crowds for the first two games are understandable given it is a new franchise team.
They will naturally drop off to something like the Phoenix average unless off course they go on a long winning streak.
They're looking at an eventual move to Western Springs refurbished to a boutique 7000 cap.
And taking any block buster games to the bigger stadium. So I think that's their thinking too.

The Phoenix got 7k to their season opener the year after being in the prelim. That is dire.

Warriors season openers are usually 17k or sold out no matter what.

Yeah
A lot of sports jerseys are ugly. AFC jerseys look great

Pretty sweet time of year to go to live sport. I hate cricket, and don’t enjoy freezing my arse off during winter, so if soccer wasn’t so boring the A league season would work well for me

Yeah I actually like blue and black.
Even more amazed at how great the weather looked at MSS. Fans looked rowdy and pumped which is always good to see. Not like Yawnion where everyone looks bored out their mind

The A league doesn't have the following of the NRL.
Auckland are well financed though and have some very good business and sporting brains as owners.
I hope they do well.
The product itself isn't the best watch thats for sure.
I checked out where the A League is ranked in world football and its 52nd.

But I hope they do well too. Makes the city more interesting.

Wellington Phoenix vs Auckland this weekend should be a good rivalry.
I'm quite hyped about the game actually.
Finally a sport i can follow in our offseason.

Wellington sending a banner above MSS on Sunday saying
" New Zealand is Yellow. See you next week." The disrespect!!!!
Love it!

I think you are right. Speedway going to now and ACC in talks with someone to take over WS.
Powerful people at the helm of AFC.

This a shame that after so many years speedway will no longer feature at Western Springs - many of the same ‘protesters’ living locally are also opposed to an even older sports organisation … Richmond Rovers RLFC

Pretty low quality game I thought but AFC get the win. Top of the table for a third week
Just had it on in the background but that Phoenix keeper will be absolutely gutted, literally handed Auckland the game in what looked destined to be a draw
