Darleen Tana was a Green Party list MP, list MP's shouldn't be able to stay in Parliament when they are no longer members of the Party that they piggy backed their way into the tax payer funded "trough".

The waka jumping bill or more accurately how politicians view it signifies politics to me.

They don't like their MP leaving but when it is someone else's they are happy about it especially if it helps their voting numbers.

Like a lot of decisions in NZ politics it is short sighted.

If you get voted in from your electorate you should be entitled to stay in. If you are a list MP you should be removed and the party able to replace you to maintain their proportion of the vote.

The allegations include: Abuse by politicians; abuse by police; missing kids buried under trees; missing kids thrown in lakes; kids working as underage sex workers in brothels; etc

Could have happened but could also just as easily be a miss mash of Chinese whispers and rumours which had ‘no direct evidence’ after being properly investigated.

Abuse in all forms of state care is proven.
Successive Govts have dodged the issue and hidden behind enquires etc and have not had the guts to front up to survivors of abuse.
It is a national disgrace, worse than anything in our history. Based on two things, I have little faith the truth will ever be truly revealed.
1, The Govt, professional institutions including medical, legal and the Police and Churches will obstruct any investigation as they are implicated.
2. Once an abuser or pedo, always one. I have had dealings with a pedo, they exist within an enviroment of respectability and trust which they have manipulated so they can abuse. When allegations are made against these pedos, they trade on their reputations and power, people believe then over a kid that can't get their story right under cross examination or as an adult decades down the track. I have had huge disagreements with people siding with a pedo because that was the easiest thing for them to do. Eventually they turn on the messenger as well. I have no doubt pedo rings existed and still do among the most powerful people in NZ and those of the same class will do everything they can to deflect attention from them.

Not sure how an apology could be an appropriate outcome if this becomes proven. Surely government would do all in its power to not let anything make the light of day that would substantiate claims. Although it’s not this particular government, it would be damaging to the image of NZ in general for people in power to have abused it and people. The potential compensation would be huge?

NZ politicians must collectively have the lowest IQ's out of any pollies in the world. An ACT MP, Cameron Luxton, got upset that Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke had a Maori Party sticker on her lap top in Parliament. Apparently, it's against parliamentary rules to display political party logos in the Debating Chamber. Problem for Luxton was, at the time he complained about Maipi-Clarke having the sticker on her laptop, he was wearing an ACT Party lapel pin while in the Debating Chamber. DOH!!!!
