General YOUR Warriors Team for 2015

Smith never comes off as hooker neither does Grub. TL played 80 minutes week in week out in Super League.
Can't carry a spare specialist hooker on the bench when our props need so much rotation.
Benry to cover the odd 10 minutes Tommy needs.
In my team Friend is injury cover only, without him at the weekend everyone stood up and tackled.
50 average tackles up the middle disappeared.
They stopped running that line after Tommy whacked a few!

Why do lots of posters say that Leuluai is not an 80 minute player.
Leuluai played 65 minutes on Saturday, barely raised sweat nor did his performance drop.

For me - I just don't think Leuluai can maintain that intensity and what he brings for 80 mins. Friend is a fitness fanatic, and if he is struggling to play 80 with quality - I really doubt TL can do it. I could be wrong - TL could play 80 mins week in, week out and have a blinder - just haven't seen it. Maybe if our pack was more dominant - our hookers could last longer? (I don't know - just a point of speculation)...

Rubbish. You have 10 interchanges. Let's say you have two starting props, two bench props and they all get 40 mins each - that's four interchanges (two on, two off). Hoffman and Mannering both play 80 mins - no interchanges required. Interchange the lock - two interchanges (one on, one off).

That's still four interchanges left. You could easily use two on your hooker and still have two up your sleeve for either more work on the props or injury.

Let's be fair with regard to our props - none of them are huge behemoths who can't play 20 mins. Lillyman, Rapira, Matagi are all 102-105 kgs (approx), Mutts is 107-108 - all are basically converted back rowers... the only way they can't play 20 mins each rotation is if we have virtually no possession and are playing in hot Aus weather and making mistake after mistake after mistake... (unfortunately, that has happened in the past)...

On your other point - super league is not the same workload as NRL... and maybe Smith and Ennis are fitter than Leuluai? Or maybe their packs do more work to make their job easier?

TL also played in the halves in ESL, not smack bang in the middle of the field. He also didn't have to run around and follow the ball to get to dummy half for 80 minutes.

Has TL ever played 80 minutes at hooker for the Kiwis? Not saying he couldn't, I'm just not sure if he has.

I don't know if I think its fair to say Friend is no longer an 80 minute player. By all reports he's still the fittest at our club. If need be, I definitely think he has it in him to play the full 80.

I think its more accurate to say he's more effective now in shorter bursts. That isn't necessarily because Friend is what you'd normally call an impact player. But more that the opposition takes a while to adapt to our style of play when we interchange our hooker. Its what seperates the top level hookers from the others. In their own way Smith, Luke, Farah Segeyaro and even Ennis through his grubness finds a way of controling the game. But I digress, this might be more the pedantic ramblings of a Friend fanboy who's just trying to protect an awesome veteran than a particularly sound argument
Agree on the shorter bursts. Last year when there was a bit of competition for his position and he wasn't playing the full 80 he seemed to offer a bit more.

The days of Friend playing 80 minutes week in week should be over. There may be the odd week where he has to play 80 or another hooker may have to play 80 or close to 80 either due to the make up of the bench or due to injury. But we probably need to keep a fresh legs in that position and start offering more of a threat from dummy half.

This may affect the nature of our bench but there is no reason the other 3 bench spots can't be filled with front row options especially with Mannering, Hoffman, and Thompson being lined up to play close to 80 most weeks.

But a bench like that offers zero injury cover. Our backs have no back-up at all with a hooker and 3 props. We would have to shift Mannering to centre and Matulino to back row. Not ideal moving Manners anymore. Exactly the reason why Benry is so important to the squad.

If we could somehow put Manu, Konnie, Ngani and Kata in the same backline we'd have the fastest, most powerful backline in the comp if we don't already. I also don't think we'd have to give a shit about our forward issues with those powerful humans carting the ball.

i know this is reaching back to discussions held at the start of the month but if our backs are doing our forwards jobs what are our forwards doing?

Waiting for the backs to bring the ball back over the advantage line so the forwards don't have too run back so far for the two carries they have to do every six play the balls ;)

Personally I'd still prefer the forwards to do the forward work otherwise we may as well take the field with two backlines.

I think the warriors have one chance of making the top 4 this year and its all on the refs to consistently enforce the no wrestling rules and the faster play of the ball. A lot of the big packs will struggle with this. When watching the world cup challenge the lack of wrestle made the game much faster and more entertaining - something i think our smaller pack will benefit from.

pinkies will never rule us the same way they rule the aussie teams

remember when the titans player offloaded and it was deemed our knock-on ? haha such blatant horseshit our boys have to play against.

Is Laumape definately out?
Round 2-3 earliest. Maybe a miracle but that time frame is from Ngani Laumape himself.

Some potentially big bad news coming in the mail in terms of our Round 1 team list. Just waiting to hear it from another player to confirm before letting you's all know. Hint: I'll probably be updating the injury thread soon...

It's not what Matt Hardy posted in the injury thread about both Sam's (Tomkins and Rapira) being out for round 1?

Hehe I'm guessing no ones winning the jersey this weekend then.

Id be very interested to see how Lolohea goes at the back. For mine something always screamed "fullback" at me when first watching him.

Sux we can't run out a full strength squad first up, but the reality is most clubs are in the same boat.
