Wouldn't have even known he played at the Nines he was invisible

Doesn't suit that format for a winger he's got no pace and he doesn't show enough aggression

Yea he wasn't a stand out at the nines but i did defiantly notice him, has some power. im not so sure that he doesn't show any aggression, if you watch his runs he always running with aggression, straight and hard. A bit like manu.

That's a very interesting point....
I think that stat raises the stakes of the Nines.

It's a good demonstration of a clubs strength, as a lot of the junior players are prominent, so we get to see the quality of each teams depth...

Unless the eventual 2016 wooden spoon winners take out the nines this year of course... That would blow the correlation right off...

Yeah I take it back he does have plenty of aggression.

As many have mentioned I think he'd be better suited to the back row.

He just has that look about him. He's a big boy I think he's young enough to learn and make the transition.

Two things supprised me about Maumolo.
He's was remarkably good under the high ball and seemed to have no finishing ability.

Mamalo has a lot of talent, just not for playing on the wing.. Manu at his age was quick as well as big, and he knew how to fly through the air and score a try....

It seems like people are trying to manufacture another beast. Manu is one of a kind.. b

But in saying all that, Mamalo is a great player to have in the nines. His semi forward, semi back qualities make him perfect for the small teams game...

The guys a massive unit genuinely bigger then most forwards I want to see him absolutely steamroll mofos.

If I remember correct he blew a try against the chooks or some team and just crumbled in the corner then a few weeks later in NSW Cup he ran straight over some poor bastard and scored a beauty, it was vicious.

That's the Maumalo I want to see in top grade a fearless wrecking ball.

I can see him having more influence at the Nines playing alongside players the calibre of Luke & Roger Tuivasa-Sheck that should bring out the beastness that he's capable of.

It will be awesome to see our new recruits playing at the Nines but I reckon Tui & Kata will be the danger men for our team, their both pretty sharp in this format.

Be good to see Wells & Klokstad as well, check the pace and awareness.

Hopefully Ali gets to show off some of those silky ball playing skills, looking forward to it.

Ashford went ok last year for the Sharks. Surprised a few in this form of the game.

I'm just hoping there's no injuries to be fair, especially to any of our marque players!

Under-fire Eden Park has backing of Nines
10:01 AM Monday Jan 18, 2016

A packed house at Eden Park during last year's Cricket World Cup.
Under-fire Eden Park has been given a vote of confidence from league nines boss Martin Snedden.

The Duco Events chief executive was riding shot gun for the Eden Park management, telling Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking that running live sport was more difficult than many might imagine.

When asked if he was worried about the stadium's readiness for the NRL Nines early next month, Snedden said: "No...the good thing is the Eden Park chief executive (Guy Ngata) came out and said they made a mistake, he fronted up."

Eden Park has been bagged by some spectators over a range of issues including queues and prices after the T20 cricket match between New Zealand and Pakistan.

Snedden said: "It is a terribly difficult thing at times to run live events...it sounds (as if) this shouldn't be too hard, but it can be.

"I suspect they got a huge influx of people they weren't expecting and got caught short. Let's just listen to the explanation, not blow it out of proportion and let them get onto it.

I've got a lot of confidence in the guys at Eden Park."

Snedden said New Zealand stadiums had improved in recent years, which was critical in trying to get people away from watching sport on TV.

"It's a series of judgement calls on a lot of issues. Every so often you get caught out, it looks bad, and you have to learn from that," Snedden said.

According to RLW's Mole:

All Black legend Carlos Spencer will make a special guest appearance at the Auckland Nines – but not as a player.

Organisers are keeping Spencer’s role a closely guarded secret – but he will be on the field with his boots.

My guess is a celebrity goal kicking contest.

Well the smart money says he shouldn't win a goal kicking contest ;)

While a decent goal-kicker, he was rarely outstanding, and kicking a steeden as opposed to a gilbert, might be a bit different for him.
