General YOUR 2023 WARRIORS TEAM

I think you could definitely mount an argument that Roger Tuivasa-Sheck wasn’t worth his salary in stints of his career with us but was probably looked at as invaluable for the players with his leadership, work ethic and high standards as far as training etc was concerned. I wonder if Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is held in the same regard being a Kiwi international and former Kiwi captain. I agree Dallin Watene-Zelezniak isn’t worth that and was signed on fullback money at the bulldogs, but it didn’t work out. Would be interesting with Roger Tuivasa-Sheck eyeing a return to league whether he would be looked at as a replacement, seems a grey area what Dallin Watene-Zelezniak salary is past the bulldogs contribution.
That's the problem with Dallin Watene-Zelezniak's contract, it restricts our flexibility to go after Reecey's Uncle Roger.
If Roger Tuivasa-Sheck was on $800k I'd have no problem, he's a plus player with great leadership and mana. If he was on a million, I'd start to squirm in my seat..

I'm cheap as chips (used to be in the good old days)
I'd only offer him $600k now though, at his age and already stuck here in NZ...

I'm guessing Roger Tuivasa-Sheck wants to go Roosters to retire because they set you up for life,

They pull the plug when they want... And you suck it up... Along with all the money they're handing you under the table and drive your shiny sports car to your new overpaid (outside the salary cap) coaching job...

They take care of their own... like the Mafia...

I think he would already have those sort of assurances with Politis post-retirement - he won a premiership with them. I very much doubt he returns to league.

That's my issue with Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, bang for buck. At 800k for two years, he's on the same money as Addin Fonua-Blake abd Tohu Harris yet they are actually premium players, and he's a run of the mill replacement level wing.

Niukore is the other one we have to watch. I see he's on $625k for 4 years. He needs to be a plus player, or we've blown a lot of cash. He's the right age and has experience and looks the part, just never settled in a full time role. Fingers crossed.
Niukore’s salary shocked me when it was announced. I thought he’d be on half that! He was a bench player and Ice only got about the same amount from the tigers, both negotiating at the same time.
They must have big plans for him and a greatly increased role/place in the team. I hope he goes to the next level and earns his keep.

Me too. He was a tweener that Parra didn't seem to want, cause they were stuffing him around positionally and minutes wise.
It's good that he has limited minutes in his legs, but still a bit of an unknown.

Maybe there was another club dragged us into a bidding war... Or maybe Curious George was on another bender and missed a zero.

We kind of have to pay what the player and agent want.

That is how it works when you are a bottom of barrel club.

Look at who we bought, not one big name among them, you are looking at what is on offer to us, not what players are worth on the open market.

Sure, but he is a Kiwi, former Warrior, and at a club that was not that keen on him and alsp dumb enough to let Papalii go...

We've not only gone 600k but 4 years as well.

Roger.

The flip side is that the evidence of history shows that we have cap space and no one who wants it.

Dead money.

I pretty much celebrate when we sign anyone, especially coaches, apart from internal appointments.

Dean Bell era pretty much exposed that the Warriors struggle to use their cap space. The Warriors are the only club I know that thought unspent cap was a good thing while they fielded hundreds of teams with no overseas star signings.

600K looks like good value in the new cap, 4 years is a gamble admittedly, although contracts don't mean much these days. If his form drops off or we ruin him, Alpha's always got a plan B, usually paying them to play for the Roosters.

Excited to see how the rookies go, and the B team spine, bring it on.

Anyone got the Tigers teamlist? Hope they're not wheeling out too many big guns, we'll get slaughtered.

Yeah, it's on the link at the bottom of the team list.

You can relax, Luke Brooks is injured!
Captain Utoikamanu 8 and Pole 12? who we may try and keep are playing. Matamua at 13. Bula on the bench. Staines gets the FB first up.

Unfortunately, our backline is much closer to the round one lineup than theirs. We should win this game.

What interests me is where Jazz will fit in this year. I think Walker will take the #14 and unless Webster wants to use Jazz as a bench prop (please NO!!!)
I don't mind him as a bench prop but would hate to see him start there again. Playing both Walker & Jazz in the middle at the same time (+ Egan/Lussick) wouldn't be ideal though unless Jazz has put on +5kg of good weight over the offseason

Kosi didn't do enough in that trial to grab a starting spot for me. Too many mistakes or near mistakes like bobbling the ball etc. He still has the handbrake on as well. Good back up to bring in though when required throughout the season. Hopefully he develops with consistent NSW cup game time.

Safe to say the wingers will be Montoya and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak. One centre will be Vailea.

Then I guess the other centre spot will be between Wiliame vs Berry. Probably have Wiliame with the slight edge at the moment.

After witnessing the trial match, I think Andrew Webster will have to keep an open mind about the fullback and halves position. Its certainly not a sure in for Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad. Luke Metcalf Taine Tuaupiki and Te Maire Martin all had shown what they can bring to this Warriors side in 2023. Every club likes to create competition within the playing squad, but very few seem to make drastic changes immediately.

If the message around accountability has been drummed into everyone then I think it needs to be backed up with player swaps. If Webster is game enough to adapt this then I think it could work wonders for the club.

Why starve a player is is pumped, excited and ready to go when a well know, established player has a bit of rust and needs a few games to settle. This young breed which we saw yesterday were hungry and performed well for themselves.

Game on!

With Montoya, Kosi and Pompey off contract at the end of the year, who do you re sign? Montoya still has a lot to offer at 26 and haven’t seen Pompey yet this season to make judgement. Perhaps re sign 2 of them depending on other options being available and Leiataua takes over the other spot if the player let go?

I think we sign montoya to a 3-4 year contract. I feel hes a mainstay of the club atm. Seems a real vocal leader with passion for the club. Unless Kosi scores 15-20 tries this year I cant see him taking the wing spot considering how much theyre paying for Dallin Watene-Zelezniak
