Dunno how much stock I'd put in our pre-season/trial matches... Last one we beat the Storm which got me a little excited for this year but alas we did very poorly.

Or that pre-season game we blasted the Broncos down in Dunedin in those flash neon X-Box looking jerseys. We've had a few pre-season or trial games that create a lot of hope or discussion around the Warriors and end up falling flat.

Trials are often your best players against their up and comers. You take your best off and put on your up and comers, they take their up and comers off and put their first graders on. Games swing about. Or you play your top side while they try out combinations and new game plans.

It's good seeing some football again and some new players but after that its just a warm up. What your doing August - October is all that counts.

This is true but I’m pretty pumped to see how Webby thinks in terms of selections and gameplay, always some good tidbits in the trials

I thought Adam Cook and Garrett Smith were going to have breakout seasons and turn into Hohaia and Villasanti after that game. Whoever they are.

Wright, I don't think he is 4th option, he is tied for 2nd, Dylan is gonna be on the bench so will only be a centre if there are injuries.

I can see Berry leapfrogging them both if he gets a chance, I can also see him bombing out, will depend who we put around him. Pompey just doesn't seem to be able to go to the next level, 2023 is his make or break year, in a good team he would be backup material.
So going by your analogy that Montoya was a good buy because he is 2nd best wing, Willi is a good buy too.
On a side note Viliame And Williame at centres is going to send blocker into a tailspin.

Will reply to you in this thread amidst concerns we were going off topic in the other thread.

Let's hope Williame is a clear upgrade on Pompey and able to start game one.
So far he has not stood out enough to make Shaun Johnson's 7 or 8 person list. He gave in an interview two weeks ago on who was making a good impression in pre-season and Williame was not mentioned.

If he is not better than Pompey then we didn't him given our plethora of centre depth options. As you've indicated we even have Berry as depth. Back to Montoya for a second. When we brought him across at wing he was a clear number three and options 4 and 5 were not NRL ready, Williame may be the third or second ranked centre but there are plenty of other NRL ready centre options the warriors already had so I don't think Montoya makes a precedent.

Just listening to what coach Webby was saying on Fonzies podcast. Description of what he wants from his middles. Fast, versatile, can cover more ground, moving away from the old school prop. Also way he talked about Barnett and Niukore suggested they could be middles in the modern game.
