Somebody is listening to me now haha. Precisely. The representative from Austex should only be sitting on the board. Carlaw Heritage Trust as well. What they need is to hire somebody with deft NRL club experience to come in and assess what we need, which is common practise. From there we setup professionals who work in recruitment, general manager, a LEAGUE CEO. Then they need to look at a Warriors CUP to replace the NZRL domestic comp, the best of those at each grade represent us in the NSW cup. That is the only way for us to get the same level of coaching and expectations as Aus players. By u20 we have players who are ready to take a step into FG at the level Papali'i has become at the Eels. No more of this trying to coach players who just dont have the urgency, drive, reason etc into NRL FG level, like our Centres this year which is one of the main reasons we are losing games.

The board is there, but the board should be taking advice and making decisions as a board, not one individual deciding they will be hands on involved and then from player interaction all the way up to hiring coaches. I dont see that as setting up a club. I dont see that working for us long term, despite best intentions.

I do not understand why people do not focus on this rather than talking about players and reasons etc, that is superficial imo. Obviously defense is what we need, so hire a damn good hard man defense HC and an offense specialist AC or Consultant depending on how much they want to commit, ie Woolf and Barrett or Green and Billy Slater.

But lets talking about why the CLUB is not functioning, we need to get away from talking about the problems with the current team and our coaching.

And also not having a strong office is making it that much harder to get a decent coach to commit!

The falling off a cliff question is more around the recent form. But it seems like other things have led to it.

It felt like we were a lot more stable and moving forward when Gould and O'Sullivan were on board. Two experienced league people who knew what success looked like.

I can understand both leaving as Gould's development needed more time in New Zealand which wasn't possible during the pandemic. He may have gotten fed up with flying back and forth or got to a point he couldn't get the investment he needed. A lot of his roles end it some sort of acrimony. O'Sullivan as a Recruitment Manager a new team and a clean slate would be appealing.

Now it's obvious Gould was talking to the Dogs when he first denied it. Between that, other misinformation about clubs hes involved with and an unhealthy need to pump his own tyres in the media, I just dont take anything he says as gospel. What did happen was, it didn't take him long to decide to leave.

We were bloody good to POS and his family. Both he and Lodge had history that put a lot of clubs off. And they both left us at times we really needed them. As far as his recruitment went, how it was ever in our interests telling the Roosters we were going after Manu more than 6 months before we allowed to table an offer? An almost perfect example of forewarned is forearmed.

So in Mohawks era we are no further forward than when he took over. Tbf if it was my club, I'd have got them in too. And it would also impact my view on hiring a coach like Flanagan who's also in need of an image shine .

I think Stacey's success is really important. He was our big coaching recruit for this season and whether he knew it or not, he would have been management's answer if Brown didn't last the season. So any success will give Mohawk confidence to trust his gut instincts as opposed to media hyped Australian tourists. And that's all we've got.

As an example we sign players nearing or past their use by date on good retirement money.Most are a waste of money.Nothing with the club is stable or long term enough be it coaches,owners or players who have agendas of their own.Each season is getting worse and alot of the time I don't see a lot of pride by players who are representing just 1 club for 1 country.How to change us from being also rans to being in the top say 6 consistently starts from grassroots again with local talent and imports who want to be warriors in name and results.What a great opportunity for a coach and players who want to take the club to a first premiership and take us fans for the ride.Crystal ball Roadrunner over and out.

Guys, what about governance - where is the board? Aren’t we supposed to have one? The board should be putting together the overarching strategy for the club - covering all aspects. How often does this board meet? What do they discuss?

An ineffective board leads to an ineffective CEO being appointed. Bad strategy trickles down to the people at the coal face - in this case our first grade team and our pathways.

On field performance will only improve once this club gets its off field house in order.

We need a professional board put in place to sort out this mess, not run a one man dictatorship that Mowhawk seems to have in place… in fact, the board should be working with the CEO to formulate the process to appoint the next first grade coach and coaching structure.

Just another thought not yet covered off. We really are Mickey Mouse.

Listening to the TWLpod with Mannering spoke alot tome when he talked about Melbourne.
Right from the girl on the front desk right through the organisation was Profesional as.

The part when he was in one of their video sessions and a young player was questioned what he did wrong on a certain play and he quickly rattled off what he did wrong.
Simon then said if it was asked of a young guy at the warriors he would say I don't know or stay silent.
High coach turnover in the last 10 seasons and also being based in Australia the last 2 years does not help.
No NSW cup squad to blood and develop players no SG ball squad to help identify players. Just this has set the club back 10 years.
I don't believe we have a true leader in the squad either. So much shit has gone wrong after promising to be a decent season.
How do we fix it.

My cynical stance would be that not many people in NZ would want the Warriors to succeed anyhow... the game is the poor cousin of Union and its all about the AB's.

Having grown up back in the day in Auckland, when you were treated like a pariah for playing and watching League... 'till the much later days when you watched a Warriors game down the local and most of the clientele were baying for a Warriors loss and cheering if the opposition scores or wins.

It's no secret that the Kiwis are now a success story built on players developing in Australia at an early age... there are some exceptions of course Graham, Stace and Mannering to name a few.

So yeah... it could all very well be about building up the game, it's profile and pathways in NZ... which is a tough task to begin with...

and it would probably take a high profiled and well respected Union/League person like Brad Thorn or Sonny Bill...
or maybe an Aussie League Legend, like a Gould, a Meninga or a Cam Smith... someone that even the Union nuts in Aotearoa can have respect for and look up to...

Always thought tyrone may was hugely over rated. He is nathans best mate so ivan has to keep his son happy. As for others, well they have a real development system now where players are actually developed before they hit first grade.

Thats the only reason a Papali’i can be average one year and a beast the next.

It’s not trying harder. It’s not the coach telling him to run different lines. Fitness and conditioning.

We would have the same results with Katoa with an elite fitness trainer.

Our defence would suddenly be competent if we could maintain energy to control the wrestle, get onside and be rushing up in their face every set,, dominate in the tackle, etc.

Said it before, fitness and conditioning is the platform you build off.
