NRL Teams Wests Tigers

I for one reckon he has an obligation to Wests to see out his contract on integrity basis alone should Wests request him to do so, rather than purely engineer something for his personal benefit, which he seems to be right in the middle of organising. He's certainly lost a great deal of personal integrity in this scam.
None of that can be denied. The only thing I would add is that he obviously cares for Nathan and believes he is better off at Penrith than the Tigers. That is the only credit I will give him, but I still think it is a mistake because Gould will never let go. Like Peter Peters said once Gould thinks he put the air into the football.

I think there are some rose coloured glasses being worn. He had 6 years here and if it wasn't for kick to Manu being his go to, we were no better than average. As he has proved to be elsewhere, both at the Panthers and the Tigers.
He was given a lifeline by Wests after a long 'rest' and has blown it back in their faces at the first opportunity. The whole kick to Manu thing is so exaggerated and discredits the achievements of Cleary and Manu at the Warriors. Go back and check the footage and appreciate some outstanding football. For all the bs that Kearney is Jesus, Lino is better than Johnson and Beale is a top 10 centre on the forum this year, do we really need rose tinted glasses to value these two!

Cleary got us to being a bottom 8 team with pretty average rosters.. The last season 8th finish to making the Grand Final finished his tenure on a massive high. Cleary had his flaws, limited attacking football, second rowers in the centres etc. But the team was solid. Could put a lot of that towards Price and Wiki also. Kick to Manu? Hell yeah. Mateo had a couple of great years on attack too. Clearly he's a great man manager, which is his best strength.

Over rated? I'd say yes until he has a premiership.

Imagine how all the Tigers players who signed on for Ivan are feeling? Big black mark on Ivan if this happens.

Lol as of this year there are currently only 3 coaches who hVe taken us to finals... and Ivan did it consistently with some of the most average, journeyman, pint pouring durry smoking players you could get.

Is he a premiership winning coach? Statistically probably. Elite? Remains to be seen.

But is he a good coach? Definitely

and a bloody good player, and a bloody good guy.
If I were Cleary I'd sign on the understanding that Gould was leaving. I honestly couldn't imagine how the two would work amicably after what happened...
I place Gould in the category of a brilliant but self destructive weirdo.

He was a fairly good FG player until struck by injury, a brilliant tactical coach, an absolute fanatic about the game FFS up until the early hours txting people all the time, but I think his intensity is also his weakness. He cannot see the forest for the trees.

He managed to shaft the Warriors with Cleary and he is doing the same to the Tigers. I hope the Tigers drain Penrith dry in compensation and manage to pick up somebody like Madge.

needs a magpie in there somewhere for the 20 years

It’s a hard one- in some ways it’s good to acknowledge the magpies past, on the other hand keeping the Balmain and Magpies factions alive is a big problem with their infighting.

Geez I am getting old, it only seems yesterday when some Magpies committee member demonstrated how to say West Tigers, it was such a strange name.

I hear ya- didn’t seem that long ago did it? The one that got me was when I found out St George Illawarra had been in existence longer than the Steelers were

In the pre Sky TV and internet days I used to buy 2 hour long Season review videos of Winfield Cup. Think it was the year the then Balmain got to the final against Canberra, immortal line from the commentator (may have been Jack Gibson) as Benny Elias lay flat out after being thumped by someone in a regular league game, ‘If he didn’t have a bad back before he’s got one now’

I used to look fwd to Thursday’s as I got RLW from the local diary and then videos of the Winfield Cup from the video shop. Commentators wereguys like Rex Mossop; Graeme Hughes, Bg Darrel Eastlake, younger Ray Warren and expert commentators such as Artie Beetson, Jack Gibson, Keith Barnes and one of the old Souths coaches - Billy ? . It was light years ahead of local rugby and league here in terms of crowds, excitement, support, glamour etc. Channel 10, ABC and 9 broadcasted the games.
Not forgetting teams such as Norths; Illawarra, Newtown, West’s.

Totally agree. The professionalism compared with local coverage of union really caught the public imagination and set the expectations for the future Warriors.

younger Ray Warren
If I recall Ray didn't get to call regularly until Channel Ten lost the contract to Nine, that meant Hughes got the axe and Rabbits arrived. Excuse me for being a suspicious bastard but I liked Hughes, and took some time to get used to Rabbits. He is a known losing punter and I assumed that Packer took him on because he was cheap. Of course I reckon he turned into one of the best in the game.

Hughes added so much excitement to the Warriors , especially in comparison to the likes of Keith Quinn .... best quote was, “ sensational”
