General Warriors World Schools 7's

Warriors go down 12-14 in their first game to the Asia Pacific Dragons. Ken Laban is very complimentary of them in his commentary. If they had more nous though they would have drop kicked a penalty with 40 secs to go to take the lead. #1 looks like an intelligent player but put his had up to be subbed off with the game in the balance, albeit after scoring a long range try
Haami loza. Him and Compton Purcell looked ok. First half was a shocker with errors and penalties

Girls just lost to BC Canada. They looked completely unfamiliar with the ruck and supporting it...

Was watching the NZ U18 team. Clearly head and shoulders above the rest. Very well drilled team and most look at least 25 years old...

Envious of both the rugby and the warm weather here. Minus bastard eight degrees C this morning. The rubbish bin lid was frozen shut and there’s no cricket until tomorrow
We’re 3 weeks into summer and only had about 3 days without rain! After a record wet winter.

Hoping for a fine Xmas so we can have a kiwi BBQ!

A mate who lives in Melbourne said Wednesday night he was so cold he slept in his tracksuit.

I had to laugh when the boys played that Aus Cavaliers team and the winger jammed in league styles even though the ball was only at half way.

Just paddle to your corner bro, let your insides work to close the gate.

My funniest moment was a player getting tackled and the guys next to him stood around like they were waiting for him to get up and play the ball lol.

Was a good win for them though and they were competitive. What they lacked in 7s nous they made up for with sheer skill and athleticism.

Not sure who that #12 was but man he had some wheels on him. Also impressed with the #1. Just one of those pure athletes that looks like he can do it all and has the time in the world to do it.

Dont suppose anyone got a numbered team list? Love to know who these players were. Was flying blind at the grounds.

Only scout I saw was Dixon McIver cause he was decked out in a Sports Vision tracksuit lol...

I watched two of the boys games and one of the girls.

Warriors boys have skills, they got the raw talent, evasiveness and speed but lack the finer details of 7s.

Standouts for me (boys) were:

Shepherd, he broke the line plenty and scored several tries. Had good speed (not elite) but could easily play centre. Step, a bit of power and an off load.

Hami Loza, this guy has got skills. I don’t know how fast he is as he always seems to glide and do as little as possible to get to the line, but when he made a break he would go all the way bar one break. Very elusive, seemed to take his time a little too much and lacked an effort play on a chase back but his talent seems elite. Not sure how it will transfer in to top flight NRL but something potentially special there.

Ieremia, big fast winger. Played pretty good, not fox fast, but good finisher.

Lucky Kali, pretty sparky and hard to handle. Explosive through gaps and never saw him get caught. He’s not big but is muscular. Wondering if he’s a hooker? If so, he’s a nice explosive type player that will murder big tiring forwards.

These were my standouts after two games, I heard a little of Compton Purcell but didn’t stand out for me. If the boys had the nuances of rugby 7s they could probably hit the semis.
