As the first month of the season comes to a close both the Warriors and Gold Coast Titans find themselves closer to the bottom of the ladder than the top, and head into Round 5 seeking a pressure-relieving win.

After four NRL Telstra Premiership matches both sides share identical records of a win and three losses, with the Warriors coming off a last-up 26-12 loss to the Dragons and the Titans falling short at home to the Cowboys 32-26.

After being a last-minute withdrawal in Round 4 due to a hamstring injury sustained during the warm-up, Kieran Foran is named to start for the Warriors but will have to pass further fitness tests prior to kick-off.

Tuimoala Lolohea has been dropped, which sees Blake Ayshford starting on the wing, while Nathaniel Roache joins the interchange for his first NRL action of 2017.

The Gold Coast received a huge boost mid-week when co-captain Ryan James beat a judiciary charge which allows him to start in the front row, while new signing Chris Grevsmuhl has been included on the bench.

Agnatius Paasi is out with a shoulder injury which sees Auckland-born Leivaha Pulu start at lock.

‌Why the Warriors can win: Despite sitting down in 14th spot on the ladder, the Warriors haven't performed that poorly in any of their losses this year. That is evident in the fact that they sit in the competition's top 10 for average sets completed (74.8 per cent), fewest missed tackles (averaging 26) and most average run metres (1,542). The quality in their play is there, and at home against a side who are down on their luck, this could be the week the Warriors put it all together.

Why the Titans can win: The Gold Coast are yet to be held to fewer than 18 points by a team this year, averaging 24 points per game. Heading into Round 5 they have the equal third-best attacking record in the competition, with a good balance of speed in the backline and forwards capable of producing second-phase play in the attacking 20. That could really hurt a Warriors side who are averaging 24.5 points conceded per match in 2017, and in particular the Gold Coast could find some success down their left side where Dale Copley and Daniel Vidot scored three tries between them last week.

The History: Played 20; Warriors 13; Titans 7. While there's not a huge gap in the overall record between these sides the Warriors have almost had a mortgage on head-to-head meetings with the Titans since 2010, winning 11 of 12 in that period. That includes a current three-game winning streak, while at this week's venue the Titans have just three wins from nine visits.

What are the odds: Sportsbet customers hate backing the Warriors when they're favourites, which would explain why there's 50 per cent more money put on the Titans at the juicy odds. In fact, they're also going with the Titans to cover the line and win 13+.

But home ground advantage will be huge for the Warriors this week, given Mount Smart Stadium has been such an unhappy hunting ground for the Titans right across their history. The Kiwi side are also desperate for a result given the pressure is already mounting big time in New Zealand. That should be enough to give them the edge in a close one. Warriors by four.

If everyone was completely honest, there is no reason that the Warriors can win with what has been shown to date, including the fact that GC has scored alot of points this year against our defensive record, and that is the only stat that really matters. But in true Warriors fashion, when it is being said we have no right to win a game, it is those games we normally win, so until the write up says we have no chance of winning, we won't

I would have liked to be banking on Foran and Johnson having a couple under the belt before we hit bottom of barrel but....it is what it is.

The Tits are perfectly placed opponents to give the Warriors a fair fight.

I don't expect a win....coz Warriors.....but I expect the Tits should be made to play the game of their season to walk away with a scalp.

Look.....Forans not a Messiah....but league is about combinations.

Johnson and Foran, in Form, beat Thurston and Cronk.....so......get that man playing in a Warriors Jumper.

If Forans return is going to fire up anyone in this team you would think that the following list will put their bodies on the line:

Mannering
Luke
Shaun Johnson
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck

I believe in that^.

Here is why:

1) Slater/Cronk/Smith are smart enough to set up all the plays. The players around them just have to know where to be, every second of the game. They have a vision of where a team's weakness is and they'll spend the whole game trying to set that scenario up. Once they succeed, they think of 'another way' to set that same scenario up, so, the opposition may know they're going to try to exploit it again, but they don't recognize the method being used to re-create that try-scoring scenario because they've cloaked it with a different play. Or else, when they do succeed the first time, they work on different weaknesses altogether, a plan B and plan C. Rarely do they have to work on a plan D, and when they do they usually lose.

2) The same should happen for our spine once Foran locks in. And I believe it will for a while. But here's the issue...

The Storm players around that axis of talent are team players first and foremost. they know their roles and there is no pressure on any of them to create/score a try. They just have to do their job at 100%, no more or less. They are pawns.

In our team, we have Kata playing like a Rook- just using his natural strength to try and bulldoze through via his low centre of gravity and high power-to-weight factor. That's the only strength you can say he has. Also, he tends to run for the corner a lot, and when he has to pass he has to twist left and in-pass to Maumalo (if Maumalo happens to have decided to follow him, and had the presence of mind to cut inside). Kata can't do that twist well, so he doesn't. So already Maumalo's role as a big, flying winger is wasted. He's reduced to taking high balls (not his strength) and making yards from the 20 to compensate for absent forwards.

Fusitua has had like a handful of games at centre in FG. His centre partner runs left every time, has no jink or step to the right side, let alone a pass.
Lolohea doesn't have enough game for the halves. He is the opposite-he's good at jinking and stepping and passing. He just needs to accept he is a centre, which seems unlikely at this club.

However...

3) I think that Luke/Roger Tuivasa-Sheck/Shaun Johnson will thrive knowing there is one less person to babysit in the team. And the relief of knowing someone is going to bark at them when they are below the line (had to bring that up). It might be good for 10 more wins on the trot. And maybe by then the youngsters by then will have gained enough confidence and nouse to change their ways (well dreams are for free aren't they?)

Speaking of odds, a bad omen for the Warriors is that so far 2 out of the 3 games have gone the way of the underdogs this round
