Embarrassing effort by the 20's, didn't look like any of them wanted to be out there. Not a good look for the new coach, he won't have the excuse of youth this year.
What worried me was McLennan's comments on TV. He said they have big problems going forward based on that performance. He also commented on their "wide hips" which McIvor interpreted as "big bums". Geez our juniors used to dominate big time, WTF is going on there?

To be honest I think its an issue with recruiting, back in the day they used to rely heavily on schoolboy rugby players in 1st XV competitions (Hurrell, Kata, Fusitua, Vete) these days they've gone away from that by looking more at junior grassroots rugby league, but the brutal truth is that the talent is not there, the talent is in schoolboy rugby union. Look no further than Isaiah Papalii and Etene Nanai who have come straight from 1st XV rugby.

Typical ref shit warriors have 80% possession no penalties, knights have the ball twice 2
penalties!

Queensland Origin star Dane Gagai is the Knights strongest player.. Warriors need to keep him well marked.

Bunty Afoa is the Warriors strongest player.. Give Bunty the ball close to the Knights line

Up front and it’s forward Bunty Afoa who owns the bench press. He can push 1.7 times his body weight. That’s a weight of almost 200 kilos.

I think Sonny Fai had the record at the Warriors for bench previously with 185kgs as an 18 year old. That's impressive considering his arms were longer than most of his team mates, Bunty doesn't have to press that weight as far but it's still a good lift. I think Foran had the best pound for pound bench in the NRL a few years ago at 170kgs at a body weight of 88kgs.

Kylie Leuluai benched 220kgs for 3 reps when he was at Manly, no other NRL player has come close to that. Taupau's 310kg deadlift would be an NRL record by a fair margin. To be honest, most NRL players over 90kgs should be squatting and deadlifting 200kgs really so most of the other clubs records aren't that amazing. Mansours figures are impressive though. The best squat I can remember was a few years back from a reserves hooker at the Titans, he squatted 280kgs with a bodyweight of 84kgs or something ridiculous. It counted for nothing as he didn't kick on in 1st grade.

Satae, no 15 with the hair, looks like non crap version of Sione Lousi.

If the U20s looked like they'd rather not be there, the reserve graders are on track for a record breaking win

I know that Newcastle team are awful, but we are playing some good footy. No errors yet, good hard forward running with effective finishing from the backs.

The scouts have to get off their arses and find the country boys who don't sit around all day at KFC. Places like up north and the central north island where they tend to be more active. It is the same in Australia, the clubs go looking for the country boys. It isn't easy, but if it was everybody would be doing it.

Commentators are still crap. What are they watching. Ayshford has been a rock on that right edge defence that whole 1st Half. The only thing these commentators seem to notice are runners and attacking plays.

Just as Cook scores his second the camera pans to Jazz and Nathaniel. Hooking stocks are looking healthy, throw in Erin whose unlucky not to debut today, then you have healthy competition behind Luke.

Definitely agree there, its almost as if they are giving up those untapped isolated NZ regions as Australian NRL club catchment areas. We need an overhaul of our recruitment department, with scouts that are willing to travel to these areas and look more into 1st XV rugby for talent.
Holding an open NYC trial is not going to cut it...

I see Sam Cook is a product of Hugh McGahan's league program at Westlake Boys High. I wonder why the Warriors let him go to Newcastle? It can't have done his game any harm though.

Which is why I think Bully will have a blinder this season. If he gives any of those guys half a chance he is a goner on his wages.

Maybe a little off topic but the Warriors/NZRL need to get league played in high schools in the non traditional areas, when I was in high school (Hawkes bay) plenty of guys wanted to play league but it wasn't an option so they played union instead
