Auckland, New Zealand, September 20, 2012 – Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah today confirmed the club had taken disciplinary action against some of its NYC players following an incident in their Sydney hotel after Saturday night’s season-ending finals loss to the Roosters.

He said the players involved would be fined and further sanctions would also be imposed.

“We were informed by team management early on Sunday morning about an incident involving players in our NYC team,” said Scurrah.

“There were complaints of noise from guests in three rooms in the hotel.

“Players had gathered in two of the hotel rooms and alcohol was a factor. Given the club has a strict no-alcohol policy for our NYC players we’re extremely disappointed they disregarded it.”

Scurrah said the hotel’s duty manager had called the police.

“We’ve spoken to New South Wales police. They said no further action will be taken and the matter was closed.”

Scurrah said the club’s management acted as soon as the team and management returned home.

“We’ve spoken to everyone in the team. We’ve dealt with the matter and we’re continuing to deal with it,” he said.

“We’ve also been in contact with the hotel and have apologised for what happened. All matters relating to the incident have been satisfactorily resolved with the hotel.

“The hotel have written to us and said: ‘Thank you for your support and taking the matter seriously and professionally’. They said they appreciated our ‘promptness’ in dealing with it.

“We insisted on reimbursing room charges to the three complainants as well as covering costs for cleaning and some minor damage.”

Scurrah said the matter was unacceptable.

“We’ve never had an incident like this involving our NYC team. We expect the highest standards from our players, which makes this even more disappointing.”

Sort of sums up a bad year.

Club needs to act fast and set an example by taking action i.e. sacking if need be

Just read this: https://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league...s-trash-sydney-hotel-room-20120920-2683b.html

8 players drunk , wonder who that was , since the ones I know are all none drinkers, couldn't of come at a worse time, oh well there might be some spots up for grabs for next season.

Who cares who they were? like anything 4 would of been drinking and fine, 3 would of been larakins and one might have been agressive.
no major damage caused. obviously now its in the media that is worse.

Are they really non-drinkers? because boys will be boys - Ive seen Folau at a bar. not drunk, but drinking
Does that make them criminals or anything no.

Hell for all the big reports on the likes of John palavi being a doctor....and it turns out he was 1 of 8 ..what then..all those feel good stories out the window

Myself personally wouldn't mind knowing because if they were fringe players they get dropped, but if you were star player you get a smack on the hand. TBH not many NRL 20's teams play up like that and end up in the media, at the hotel after the game. They couldn't wait for Mad Monday.

Couple of the boys are christens and they take there faith seriously, so they were the 1's i was referring to. TBH I agree there would of been 3 - 4 drunk ones , the rest by standers.

Consider this abit of a non-story for mine. Lads will be lads. Abit of noise and 'minor damage' is tolerable. There is absolutely no need to release names other than to satisfy the curiosity of the nosy few. Some of these guys wont play for the NYC or be offered NRL contracts and some will. Whatever happens they neednt have something like this staining there names when they have their whole lives ahead of them. I'd understand if they punched a young girl in the face like Tevita Leo-Latu or get locked out of the hotel room, do a dump in the hallway then be found asleep naked in the fire escape like Nate Myles but they didnt so go easy on them.

Doesn't set a good example for aspiring youngsters who look up to these 20's players very un-professional conduct surely team management must be held accountable as well as the players. Just adds to this miserable wasted season.

It's another media beat up on league. A non story really that has been professionally handled by the club to the satisfaction of all involved. Noise, isotonic drink stains on sheets and a broken lamp, yes it should never have happened but it is how these thinks are dealt with after they occur that matters. Club has done the right think emailing members and telling them about the incident, paying for damage, paying for affected guests ( I believe 3 ) accommodation, apologizing to Hotel and Police and fining the players involved. The media have tried to sensationalize the story to sell more papers etc and put the boot into the club while they are down .

Every player that travelled was fined, not only those that were involved.

Wow, I guess that is making the players involved relies they have hurt the whole team. I hope the players do the right thing amongst themselves and those that were involved re-imburse those that weren't. Tough lesson learnt I suppose.

that 20s team couldnt pull off the three-peat and tried to drown out any knowledge of the fact that the streak of championships had ended on their watch.

this is total BS. I would have told management to go suck the big one like I did to a teacher who decided to put the whole class in after school because a couple of numb nuts at the back decided to act up. no way does that fly team or no team. On the footy field running extra laps because of silly errors is fine but when money is involved they can go and get f'd.

I wouldnt throw around statements like that second paragraph just asking to be proven wrong, I have heard the whole team were involved bar 2 players (who were asleep).

Agreed, Scurrah is just taking it out on the young boys .....probably dropping lines like this will affect sponsors blah blah etc....
When in reality the real reason he is stressed...is he might be out of a job, if they cant find a coach asap.

I heard rumours of one player threatining to employ a lawyer to fight the compulsory community services handed down lol.....
before he heads overseas to play another sport lol......

But seriously for those blokes leaving ...how can they really have any opportunity to do anything

I think giving the whole team compulsory community service is not that bad; but fining all the players, including the two not involved is a bit harsh; especially considering how much each player was fined. Iv heard 500 each.

OTT! Is this Scurrahs handy work again? Needs to fine himself an uppercut to the chin if he doesnt get a good coach!
