General Warriors Salary Cap Discussion

facefacts

Yeah.

I'd say he's now worth spare change.

Kidding. I'm not a Manu hater.

I'm not a Manu hater per se, i'm a hater of any player who makes an inordinate amount of errors and defends their position woefully, because those are the two things, above all else, that have made the Warriors a below average side for the best part of two decades...and Vatuvei just happens to be the very worst in both catagories.

Believe he signed a contract two years ago or so, and I heard it on the news. I believe McIvor was saying that because of the contract Manu would pay for the Otara markets the next time. It was either $750,000 or $800,000. What did you think he was on? Source?

He was paid that much not because of his errors or defensive reads, or as a winger, but because the Warriors saw him as a franchise player.

Isn't he also under the 10 year service? (where a percentage of his contract is outside the cap).

No way Manu Vatuvei is on that much. Even with long service, marquee and TPA's he's no where near that amount...

The long service thing as far as I know is a bit of a non event anyway as its only $200k and surely every team has a player to use it on. It's really just a small increase to the overall salary cap.

Its a 300k bucket that every club has for players that have served 8 continuous years at the club (includes NYC/Reserve Grade etc).

I thought it also didnt count towards the salary cap? Thats huge if true. No doubt Manu Vatuvei, Ben Matulino and Simon Mannering are getting their share of it...

That will be the full contract over multiple years not just a single year. Same as when they talk about a star signing a multi-million dollar contract - you need to divide by the number of years to get the annual salary. Just a guess however I reckon Manu would be on around $400k per annum given his ability as a player and his marketability

Yeah, but not all of that comes from the club's cap - there's long service exemptions, plus money from Bendon, Wendy's etc.
I never said where the money came from, or that it was salary cap money. My point is that he makes $750,000-800,000 per year, which his manager and the Warriors reported when he got his 3 year contract extension. The Warriors said they saw him as a franchise player. His manager threatened that he was going to union if he didn't get a good deal from the Warriors. The Warriors bit.

Yeah it doesnt count towards the cap. Same as education, relocation costs etc.

Source? The only source remotely related to him getting anything close to over 400k is your article where the journalist made that up without any direct value quotes from his manager or the Warriors. Although its deeply concerning with Scurrah talking about him as the premier winger in 2010, not because that he wasnt, but because its absolute lunacy to pay the amounts you are quoting for a winger. I cannot see any other club in the NRL paying him anything close to that.
