General Warriors Put On Notice

Why would you clock someone? you'll have no energy left to attack, jeepers you need to get over it, friend is by far the best hooking option at the club hence he's starting, if you get a chance watch the cowboys first set of six when friend makes a cover tackle for two of the warriors players, he's a machine an 80min hooker that allows more rotations amongst the forwards or allows someone like Konrad to come off the bench who would otherwise just sit there.

I don't mean clock someone as in belt them.
It's a term for when u tackle a player if u get on top- which friend never does- while still on them u spin your body round so your feet point towards your goal line meaning when u stand up your straight into position for marker.
It also slows down the ruck.
Other people prob have a different name for it

I thought they banned that. You can't spin while on top of the player as it is slowing down the play,

Someone did get penalised for it over the weekend; can't recall who it was but I think it occurred in one of the Friday night games.

I think this game and last game the refs weren't controlling the speed of the games. I don't think the Warriors adjusted well. From 1st game to 2nd game. But they were trying in this game, but it was the Cowboys that were slowing the game down, and the refs let them do that.

Is it one rule for the rest and one rule against the Warriors?

As far as I'm aware (someone may correct me here) they've only banned the third man coming in around the legs,or the "cannonball" tackle. It's obvious though they're showing less tolerance toward slowing down the ruck although as with everything else that's left to whoever is refereeing and their interpretation of how long is too long.

It was banned 2 or 3 years ago from my recollection. The tackler must roll to the side and get up. They cannot turn around while on the player, as its deemed to be slowing down.

got it in one nig, unfortunately this is one of those sometimes rules that refs tend to forget about, unless they are trying to square things up later in the game or they are reffing a Warriors game

Looking back to see if your defensive line is set before standing up should be an immediate penalty - how much more obvious can you make it that you're time wasting?

ET on radiosport atm saying training is tougher at Penrith and there is less of a family atmosphere there, more training hard and expectation from others for you to train hard. No runs on beaches, more hard training in hot weather.

Sounds like the Warriors are perpetually underdone no matter what they say

..and that's from a guy who was supposed to be the hardest trainer at the Warriors

I think that says everything about whats wrong with the Warriors culture.

I would take that with a grain of salt ....this is marquee Taylor after all.
He is a guy that goes whole heartedly into everything.

And it's training under a recent Warriors coach, to boot. Makes you wonder how much control Warriors coaches feel they have over the team's training. Surely Uncle Ivan didn't do his time with us, then get over to Penrith and suddenly think "Hey, maybe the players will perform better on the paddock if they're fitter and train more seriously."?

Maybe we need ongoing military-style training, with punishment for mistakes and floggings for smiling.

I took your advice and had another look. Had to laugh.
It's not a cover tackle- second tackle sims picks out friend ( as u would) and runs straight at him- matulino and bakuya come in from either side to help - bakuya falls off but luckily muts gets a hold of his ankle which trips him.
Friend is first to make contact and it's inside the 20 but hes carried almost to the 30.
Sims plays the ball while friend is still trying to get up meaning we are not only on the back foot but also only have one marker. Off the back off that the cowboys march down field- which is what happens when u lose the early tackles.
U couldn't have picked a worse example to try prove your point- it is the perfect illustration of the problem with friends defence and the pressure it puts his team mates under.

They have cracked down on the grapple nig and they've done a good job of it too.
It's a lot more subtle now but they're still more lenient if it's a dominant tackle and that's the point- friends tackles are never dominant

How about watching the Sharks game, question, who currently tops the tackle count in the NRL? mmmmm.

Bear in mind that is tackles forced upon you. You don't see too many running into Hurrell etc. And a tackle is holding another player and not letting go until the ref calls "held". Those statistics tell you nothing about metres gained or lost in the tackle and if there was a statistic for that, the real picture of Friend's usefulness would be apparent. I respect Friend, I respect his heart and courage but NRL is about impact and forward momentum and we lose that almost every time he is involved.
