Be interesting to watch Chanel Harris-Tavita go about getting this team around. Huge step for the kid. Think he's still 18 or just turned 19. Did the hard yards with the team doing a whole preseason.

Be good watching Hayze Perham. Got a killer step but I've not seen him play at all. Another player who is stepping up big time. Look forward to seeing him develop and grow.

Looking forward to seeing how Cole Waaka goes with the step up. Watched a bit of him in the rep grades and he's a smart player. Still quite young...

Do you know his background, the Waaka family have produced a lot of good Union players through the years, especially around the Bay of Plenty.

Tony Iro. The epitome of what's wrong with the Warriors. No accountability. How someone can continue to remain employed after continual failure in doing what he's been employed to do will do me. Needs to be turfed.
When you say Iro is the epitome of what is wrong with the Warriors....do you mean the boys network where no one gets fired ? ...that is they get shifted sideways instead ?

If that is what you mean then he is the epitome of the jobs for the boys culture in the club.

I suspect the reason Iro is bullet proof...is that he is the Jack of all trades precocious type of potential talent....who has had massive resource poured into him ( at NZRL level under Jimmy D no less and at the Warriors pre Jimmy).

In which case ( a leap here on my part) part of the reason he survives is the egos of some otherwise astute businessmen are preventing them from seeing that personal relationships cloud things sometimes....and there is a tipping point where Warrior bosses just don't want to admit there time and intuition might not be right ?

That thinking pervaded so many assessments of " potential star players" in this organisation.

Brian Smith bro is the smartest external overview appointment they have made bar none....

If SK goes I hope an Aussie comes in and Smith keeps his role of one step away from the insiders who are too close to the woods.

Where is the evidence that Iro cant do the job or is stealing a salary? Whats his record of faliure I guess is what I am asking.
Not denying it coz I just dont know myself but seems like they are having a decent cleanout and if he really was a waste of space then the current mob are ruthless enough to call him on it and move him on.

Perham has the goods, will play NRL before he turns 20. He has a very wide ranging skill set whilst being fast and athletic, which can be bad news at this club, they will play him all over the shop. Next thing you know he will debut on the right wing in first grade but the coaches will say he is a 1 or a 6, then he will put on 15kgs and go to the Tigers.

I have never understood the vile hate Iro receives online. He's good at what he does. One of the best in the country.

I think it stems from pro-Bluey fans who didn't like that Iro was undermining Bluey but also failed to see that Bluey was completely and utterly out of his depth and we were going to see a huge exodus of very talented players leave because of Blueys incompetence. It was Iro that kept the bulk of the squad together not that it helped as we only ended up with Elliott who was more a confusing wordsmith than quality coach.

I don't hate Iro for it cause I know from firsthand player accounts just how stupid Bluey was...

The fact that Perham was selected over both Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and Zac Santo for that fullback spot, shows how highly rated he is.

Given how valuable Fusitua is to our Centre/Wing make-up, Perham is pretty much our back up fullback. If Roger Tuivasa-Sheck goes down, he's up.

Almost certain he'll debut this season.

He has been the recruitment manager since they sacked Dean Bell. Any further evidence required.

That means nothing. Why don't we import somebody who can do the job. I don't hate the guy, he was an amazing player who stood tall in a tackle and broke Wally Lewis's arm when you were still in nappies. However he cannot really coach, he does have an excellent knowledge of both the English and Sydney club systems but what does that mean in the shape of things? It looks like jobs for the boys.

It was the old guard that wanted Cleary out. Are you saying he wasn't in that clique? If he wasn't why didn't he support John Hart?

I see John Teina has officially been given the head coaching role by Brian Smith while Iro’s been promoted up to an assistant coaching role with the first grade side.

Don’t know a lot about Teina tbh, unlucky again on Ricky Henry, thought he did a good job last season, Teina must have shown Smithy something to get ahead of him.

Isn't Santo still getting over his injury? Whatever that was? Not expecting him to play this weekend but that's just a hunch.
If everyone is fit it's a pretty handy backline when you add Santo, Gelling, probably Ayshford when Beale is back, Junior Pauga and JTS to what they have named this week. Anyone else I missed?

So he got us the kiwi spine, tohu harris, Adam blair (ok that one' might not be so great), Blake green plus a bunch of other returnees. Sounds ok to me. Didnt get us the prop we all want but Everybody always points out how hard it is to get people here and how we pay overs for everyone then shit on the recruitment guy like it should be an easy job.

Now I sound like I am his fanboy and really I still don' know if he is doing a good or bad job and see no evidence either way. I suspect recruitment manager gets a lot of input from GM and coach on where to focus so hard to judge until I understand his mandate.

Kearney and George got them. To be fair he has got some good young ones coming through but so he should have. This country has talent to burn, just ask the Aussies.

That is an interesting appointment. I might go and watch the game.

If Smith thinks Iro is up to it...that is good enough for me.

Iro gets picked on for the same reason Wiki does.

The clubs been so crap for too long....fired so many coaches....fans want 100%
clean out....rightly or wrongly.....there it is....topple the old guard and start again.

Like I said I don't hate the guy. What damage can he do as assistant coach anyway? Kearney is clearly running the show with Smith as backup. As for Smith he cannot clean the whole place out straight away. The club culture was shite and Iro and Wiki were part of that culture. That is an undeniable fact, how much of it was their fault will become obvious.

I'm amazed how JT got the job, good on him to take this opportunity but wow that was quick rise up the ranks
