General Warriors Documentary

The worst bit about the doco. Was watching all the amazing trys, and realising how bat shit boring we are as a footy team these days. Episode 2 the Anderson era, is probably gonna make me shed a tear or 2 in this regard.

There were only ever 4 real names that were in contention. Warriors, Bombers, Volcanoes and Rams. These were all fan suggested names and DB BItter ran a competition to find a winner. Sadly for the winner the prize was a 5 year supply of DB Bitter 😭. They also were meant to get a special jersey but I have never seen it or knew what it looked like...
Sort of off topic, but the best naming comp I saw was to name a new live band at the Matamata Motor Inn. Overwhelming crowd choice was 'Ratshit'.

We were excitement machines back then!
When the Aussies think so you know it to be true. That isn't saying we don't have skill. We have skill in spades, especially from the big boys like Big Ken and Fusitua, but they don't seem to be using it. Has it been coached out of them for the "process". I guess we will find out. How many years have we had the process now BTW?

Auckland Lions was initial name for this team. This was name that was in Mt Albert leagues club original proposal to ARL (NRL) about putting team together for Winfeld Cup. Other names suggested for Warrriors were Volcanoes, Lavaheads, Vulcans, Titans, Spartans, Stringray's, Orcas, Mako's, Maori, Mana, Matai's, Chiefs, Chieftains, and my own personal favorite 'The Angry Natives'. Dude I don't know about you but I would support the shit out of team called 'The Angry Natives'...

🤪
Lavaheads! that's awesome!

Imagine now, the uproar at the "The Angry Natives" name...

Again, maybe it's me, but I've always wished that NZ Warriors would use 'Savage Imagery' Australians have built up about this team alot more against them. Like how cool would it be if this club got somebody like Weta Workshops to build silicon mold life size replica heads of fifteen of most famous players in NRL (each one representing a different NRL team) and then after every win, have our captain at start of every home game bring out head of player of team we just beat and stick it on spike. Who needs giant, sixteen foot, crane operated, mechanical shark, when lifeless corpse of Paul Gallen's face looking back at you should be enough to intimidate any one of our opponents. That and you can forget traditional drums, that not enough. I want whole Auckland Kapa Haka group there to act as cheerleaders. Ian Robson wish he thought of this shit ...

And rename the club Isis Old Boys.

Feel like it’s been forever....

League used it be so entertaining to watch.

Now it’s on-par with rugby union as the most boring thing I could ever watch.

I have more fun watching paint dry.
Have to be honest, this is how I feel as well about the game. It's not JUST the Warriors.....
I played it for over ten years, used to watch every single Warriors game, but now, it's just become so boring to watch and follow.
SOA included. Test matches, NRL the lot.
Bring back the Biff I say!!

Couldn't agree more with this. The game's gone soft & the players are so restricted for fear of penalties.
No room for individual brilliance & 'the kick to Manu' seems the only option.
Totally over the SOO hype & bullshit. For shits sake and our sanity bring back some flair and a bit of mongrel.

im much like you guys and just bored of whats on display. I dont think bringing back the biff is the answer but ill list what i think is wrong

1. wrestling - this is probably why the game is boring. all the wrestle and the slow play the balls stops creativity and lets the defensive line set and get off the line quick.
2. styles make fights - every team runs the same block plays over and over again. I cant think of a team that has a stand out identity ie throws the ball around etc.
3. refereeing -different interpretations guys like klein and sutton will let players get away with more in the ruck (for the record refereeing blunders have nothing to do with it as it happens in every single sport around the world). we seem to have a few penalty blitzes every year that have been commanded from the top. I dont know any sport in the world that does this. if its a penalty always penalize it. why hasnt it taken so long to try and stamp out the escort penalties

On the other hand, we haven't been subjected to re-views of any of the the shitty defensive performances, which certainly went on - and was IMO worse - while the free-wheeling amazaballs try-scoring was going on.

I agree we're less stunning on attack these days. We do have moments, like we still do with shitty defence, but fewer of them in both counts. But I can't honestly say I miss it that much.

I wonder how much time will be given to DA's "inspiring" 2002 Grand Final HT talk?

Yep I've felt the same way too, standard of footy this year has been sub standard. Would religiously watch every game on Fox, now I just record them and cherry pick the half decent games.

Id also add the "fatigue factor" or rather lack of it combined with the improved physical conditioning and preparation of the modern player as perhaps the biggest influence.

Atm we're seeing little difference in defensive line speeds from the first minute of the game to the last, combined with the wrestle means attacks are forever running against set lines hence the evolution of the block plays. Find a way to bring fatigue back into the game (an obvious one is to drop the interchanges) and the oppertunities for attack (especially for the fast little man who can read whats in front of him) increase.

Id also say this has led to the uniformity in the modern player we see a lot of. Props have become more streamlined (not many Tookey/Danny Wicks body types any more) and there's barely any difference between backrowers and outside backs. The athlete v footy player comparison.....seems RL is looking at more athlete first types. Thats why a guy like Hiku seems quite a throwback for mine, clearly no athlete but plays the game in a quite old fashioned way in regards to how he'll set up his outsides.
