why are our juniours so crap this year they are plain puss and it's pissin me off

Ackland should be a player scout for the Warriors, not a coach. Better off signing JT, atleast hes got 3 years exprience as head coach of first grade team.

Ackland and they just dont have the players....there just crap,i wouldnt be surprised if they dont win a game

That was painful. Something like six/seven sets in a row on their line and we couldn't convert, then as soon as Manly got the ball, they scored.

Will Hopoate is going to be a star.

Fire Ackland and get Jerry Seuseu to coach instead of running the water

We will win next week and everyone will be saying how great Ackland is.

A crucial refs call went against the Warriors U20's that turned the match. Had that call gone for the Warriors then they win the game and no one is to concerned.

No, 1 draw after 4 matches = sack instantly. He'll be on the scrapheap along with 116% of the rest of the people employed by the Warriors.

yeah the warriors arnt hot but, neither is the T/CUP the standard has fallen away and i think it might have something to do with a lot of young players coming into teams a number of 16 year olds are contracted to a number of clubs either as project players or development players the problem is a number of these players come straight out of junior district were the standard isnt high. if i was to tweak the T/CUP I would rather it change to UN23 drop NSWCUP expand Bundyred by doing this your given older players more time to stick around in the NRL the bundyred which is struggling to be a viable standard increases because the excess players drop back and the local A grade comps become better because their able to field a better standard of player.

Might be on to something there, kingkole!

One of the arguments against the U20s when it began, and I think it was Brian Smith or Phil Gould who bought it up, was that what happens to a player once they no longer qualify for the U20s due to being 21 or 22? They go down to NSW Cup, Bundaberg, whatever Cup and the standard in those comps will be frankly naff so if they do get a shot in the NRL they'll be even more off the pace. Also, there was the age old question about young players and their body readiness or lack thereof for regular tough body contact.

How about an U23 as KingKole suggests with the allowence of one player over the game of 23 also allowed to play.

John Ackland inherited this team late last year. They've been struck by injuries as well.

perhaps the question should be asked ...

why are the best Kiwi U20 players playing for clubs outside of NZ?

Q Cup certainly isn't a drop from Toyota Cup and I doubt NSW Cup is either. Both would be a lot more physical, I remember a Vulcans trainer telling me how they would get 20s boys occassionally and most couldn't handle it because they'd gone straight from junior footy to NYC. Was talking to Eddie Purcells friend today who reckons Eddie finds Q Cup a lot tougher than NYC was. I don't know about NSW or Bundaberg cup but Q cup pays their players a lot more than the NYC guys get as well. Most the NYC kids are getting between $100 and $200 a week which is why the clubs are on their backs to get other skills while they're playing.

The kids managers try to get them better deals and opportunities than Warriors can give them and SG Ball is big lure for the younger players. The lack of and equivalent to Harold Matthews, SG Ball or Arrive Alive Cup footy is an obstacle to keeping good players. You can also throw in a lack of decent shool league programs too. Is there one school in NZ with a league academy? Some players feel the Warriors muck them around too so they look offshore first.

On a related topic, there was a really talented kid playing for Harbour u16s a few years ago called Nathan Ashe. This kid would be in Shaun Johnsons league but much faster and physically bigger. His manager got him a deal at St Helens and he's been up there for the last few years playing in ESLs U20s comp. That's a worry, it's bad enough with talent going over to Australia without losing them to England as well.

q cup always been of a good standard the main prob with NSWCUP is that in NSW the talents to spread out were you would find most teams could field a good starting 13 but once they start to lose a number of players the depth falls away quite a lot. i remember the days of winfield cup were young guys would come in and be surronded by a host of experienced battle hardened pros this enabled them to go out and play their natural game knowing that their were a few old heads to guide them in the right direction.

Gee, how bad is the toyota cup this year...Knights ran in 4 tries in 10 minutes now at 28 minutes in its 22 all. You'd think it'd be fun to watch...its not...Its like watching a game of league that me and my mates would play at high school back in the day =/
