General Toka Likiliki To The Knights.

He'll still be behind a stack of other young props judging by their player profiles page: https://www.newcastleknights.com.au/playerprofiles

He could get a run in first grade some time during the year but there's 8 or so props on the extended first grade roster. Can't see Bennett playing him on the wing either. Good luck to him though, he's a good kid. 127Kgs now as well, sheesh!

Interersting to see David Faálogo in there for next year as well.

Be good to see if he still has it.Left in good form at Souths before he cracked his coach, lol.

That's a pretty good squad on paper really. Bennetts built up a good blend of youth and experience there.

Yeah, that's a prime example of why coaches shouldn't get too close to the players and certainly not on a social level. I doubt Bennett's ever contemplated joining in with boys on mad monday.

The Knights are going to be the new Bulldogs. Great forwards, outside backs and coach. But question marks over the halves. Actually their whole spine isn't anything to write home about, maybe Darius on his day?

So they've got a team good enough to make the eight, not to win the whole thing though. And of course its popcorn drama watching to see if Tinkler town will actually collapse. I do like the Knights so whatever happens I hope the club and the players still get a pay day. Thank god we don't have those problems at our shack.

the new bulldogs? don't you have to make the eight first

The new Bulldogs in similar strengths and weaknesses.

As in they've got good forwards, outside backs and a good coach. But questions over the halves. Like the Bulldogs.

Darius - At his best a quality fullback. Not in the same league as Hayne and Slater.

Jarrod Mullen - I'm not sure why you rate him in the first place? Inconsistent and at best a decent half option.

Kurt Gidley - A decent utility. In the Lance Hohaia mould. Best posistion at fullback or off the bench. Not at halfback. Injury prone.

Buderus - I guess his name is almost legend so i can understand people rating him. But he looked a shadow of his former self for most of last season.

either you and i watch different games or we watch the same games differently. for a spine which you say isn't anything to write home about, you have written a fair bit on it.

On a bad or average day, that's a pretty crap spine, lets be honest. When the stars align though, maybe once or twice a season, it's an excellent spine.

Knights spine in a word: Inconsistent.

Tell me honestly do you rate that spine as one of the best in the comp?

Melbourne's spine/Better
Manlys spine/Better
Warriors spine/Better
Souths spine/Better
Nth Qld spine/Better
Roosters spine/Better

I believe all these spines are better. I never said the Knights spine was rubbish just that it isn't anything to write home about. Which IMO is pretty fair. I wouldn't want any of their spine over ours.

i never said it was one of the best in the comp but the inferencce from your post was that it was pretty rubbish - you only rate darius on his day. you are comparing to the bulldogs and saying their halves are an issue. well, imo gidley and mullen are two very good players, both state of origin players which makes a pretty strong halves combo.. I'd have mullen over harry or TL or godinet in our team any day and if Shaun Johnson showed as much heart, guts and determination as mullen i'd be a happy man. they finished better than us and the roosters so must be doing something right. they shat all over our spine and that is with gidley iinjured most of the year. and i'd rate it higher than nth qld and possiby souths as well.

The Knights had a flash of success in the last third of the season. I don't think their success was down to their halves.

They purchased Gagai and Mason who filled very good roles and there was a change in the Knights from that point on. It certainly wasn't from their halves blowing teams away.

Their halves are average, inconsistent, good on their day. Disagree? Cool. Whatever.

tell you what. friendly bet. i'll give you every other spine in the comp and I'll take the knights spine. lets see how they go against each other. i bet the the knights with boyd, gidley, mullen and buderus in the spine win more games than they lose.

I don't really understand what your talking about. But nah, thanks, i'm good.

when did they make top 8

I don't know. You tell me? What has that got to do with anything?

I'm comparing the Knights roster and coach to the Bulldogs. Why would they have to make the 8 first for that to be valid?

not much of a comparison seems to me they have a whole lot of ageing and injury prone players that they center there game around. where as the bulldogs spend as much money as they can whether it be legal or not and purchase star players from other clubs. i've seaid this alot but how can this bulldogs team be under the cap and if they are how come there aren't more teams that a stacked with star players like they are.

This is their Grand Final team. Pretty much all the big names were there:

Ben Barba
Sam Perrett
Josh Morris
Krisnan Inu
Jonathan Wright
Josh Reynolds
Kris Keating
Aiden Tolman
Michael Ennis
Sam Kasiano
Frank Pritchard
Josh Jackson
Greg Eastwood
James Graham
Dale Finucane
Corey Payne
David Stagg

They got Krisnan, Sam Perrett, Jonathan Wright and Josh Reynolds dirt cheap. IMO only Barba, Josh Morris and James Graham would have been on close to marquee signings. Thats not to say that the other players werent great but most were thought past it or under preforming. That to me was the genius of Des in being able to bring the best out of them. Frank the Tank was thought to have played his best years but then gets an automatic call up to the Kiwis. Sam Kasiano was always meant to be a good player but just hadnt reached his potential. The rest are all good players but would be on the $150,000 area. They have lost 7 players for next season including Aiden Tolman (Broncos), Bryson Goodwin (Rabbitohs). Their only signings for next year, bar Inu and Perrett who have had $150,000 payrises from this year and Sam Kasiano who was re-signed, is Tony Williams (Manly) and Drury Low (Raiders). The funny thing is, bar James Graham, Krisnan Inu and Sam Perrett, its the exact same team as last season yet nobody was calling them cheats then because they sucked! I often think the Rabbits and now the Titans are cheating but then I just tell myself Im probably jealous...
