General Tim Smith

Smith on a bad day would still offer more than what we currently get, especially in regards to our last tackle option when on attack, which is the one area we're really lacking.

We should've beaten the Broncos by more last night, but constantly let them off the hook with poor kicking options. Same thing with our losses to Manly and Cronulla as well as grinding wins against the Raiders, Knights x 2, and Tigers games.

With our forward pack and potent backline we shouldn't be grinding out wins. Nice to have that as a plan B but our forwards aren't being rewarded for their dominance.

That was actually for the benefit of some who may have been confused regarding mood disorders.

As far as rebuttal to your statements, I simply asked where you were getting your facts from regarding mental illness. Because by and large, most of what you said was incorrect.

You also stated you wouldn't change your opinion until you had evidence to the contrary...well there is plenty out there. Go read up on the pathogenesis of the disease, then come back and tell us it's all 'lifestyle and circumstances'.

Btw JB is there a separate thread?

Sorry mate, I was out of town when I last logged on and only got back tonight.

The new thread is here: https://forum.nzwarriorsonline.com/showthread.php?t=13584

The one thing I have about Smith, is that while he is a very talented footballer, I don't know if he's the sort of person who is consistant. Pretty spectacular one moment and goes a bit off the next. To be honest, thinking about it I wouldn't sign him now. lol.

With regards to Foran, I'm guessing they couldn't garentee anything with him? Still a little raaw and still un-proven at the moment I feel.

I would be stunned if that wasn't tied in with his bi-polar. If he has been addressing that as the general understanding that he has, inconsistency may no longer be an issue for him.

It could be the final cog in the premiership machine if we get Smith.

Am concerned that we have not managed to get Foran, it really is looking bare out there on the halves front if we are resigned to hoping a player gets released from an ESL club, as a result of that club getting a player that has been kicked out of his NRL club.

Not sure how we could afford Pritchard and Smith, but if we did crikey that would be a dominant team.

I haven't heard Pritchard, but I have heard Liam Fulton.

I'm quite perplexed as to how we missed out on Liam Foran. The kid loves Stacey Jones, and he loves Auckland. I wonder if he refused to sign without the guarantee of a regular first grade spot, and the club weren't willing to offer such a role to an unproven reserve grader.

"TIM SMITH'S manager, David Riolo, says the former Parramatta halfback is unlikely to resume his NRL career with the New Zealand Warriors next season.

It emerged in the wake of Canberra's sacking of halfback Todd Carney last week that Smith, who joined English club Wigan Warriors after revealing he had bipolar disorder and quitting the NRL earlier this season, could switch to the New Zealand Warriors, creating the possibility that Carney could slot in at the UK club.

Both players have had a history of alcohol-related incidents and the NRL has said it won't register a contract for Carney for 2009. Riolo, who manages both players, yesterday confirmed he had been contacted by the Warriors, adding: "I've spoken to them about Tim. I haven't received an offer from them.

"They wanted to know his status for next year and I said he'd look at it, but I think Tim will stay in England for 2009.

"He's enjoying it over there and I think he's happy to be out of the NRL limelight for the time being.

"I've only spoken to Tim briefly about it. He was preparing for a game and I didn't want to distract him from that. I'll have a longer chat to him during the week, but he seems to be playing well and is getting more and more game time with Wigan.

"He is contracted to Wigan until the end of 2009, with an option for 2010. I think we would be able to work something out with Wigan if he wanted to come home at the end of this year, but I don't know if it will come to that."

Smith, who had been coming off the bench for Wigan, started for them for the first time in an away game against Catalans Dragons early yesterday (Sydney time). He threw the pass to set up a late try that gave fifth-placed Wigan a 16-16 draw with their third-placed opposition."

....hopefully this means Foran is on his way.

Bugger. We've already ended negotiations with Foran.

Correct - foran will not be here next year. He's likely to make a move to either Manly or the Titans depending on final negotiations.

Paea is in a similar boat - we showed minimal interest and stopped our enquiries a couple of months ago. He is currently talking with the Eels.

Oh crap man. Oh well will Isaac John be ready next year?

Hohaias a hooker in my opinion.

I rate Fulton very highly, he reminds me of a more experienced Dan O'regan. He can play lock or standoff and has got all the boxes ticked. However I can't see Sheens letting him go without a fight, he'd be in their top 3-4 players.

Perhaps we should'nt be giving Fien a "free to look around" ticket until we've actually signed someone huh?

A combo of an untested Moon at stand off and either Rovelli/Witt at halfback (which is looking like what we'll end up with) inspires me with confidence not. Yes Fien is stop gap, but i'd take him over the other 2 anyday.
