cant believe jerome ropati is actually in the running.

Yeah you ain't the only one but I guess those who count have found improvements in him somewhere along the lines...

I can't believe you haven't.

TBH i agree. I mean sure he aint the best 5/8th ever but hes defintley got better there as the year progressed and has shown some great improvements.

I think ropo really only showed improvement in the last 6 or 8 weeks of the season. for my mind, that's not enough for the player of the year award - you've got to look at the whole season.

i think it should go to Rovelli. Lots of people said there was no life after Stacey, and Rovelli proved them all wrong.

Jerome certainly isn't my pick for player of the year - I still think Price should win it hands down - but my argument was that he had improved fullstop, in direct response to Skinny's view that he hadn't. He came out of 2006 a better player, (and, yes, even standoff), than he went in.

Rovelli, I hope, gets the young player of the year award. He definitely impressed, but he didn't do enough to be considered our best player throughout the season, for mine. Steve Price gained more metres than any other prop in the NRL, and made the highest equal hitups of a any prop in the NRL - a major role of the prop's part in a team - and represented Queensland in a winning State of Origin team, before seamlessly dominating the NRL upon his return. I'm not sure where his statistics stand right now, but for quite a long time he was gaining the second highest number of metres behind a fullback. (Can't remember who.) It's an easy decision to make, for mine.

Price has to be the player of the year. The guy is mr reliable. Without fail always makes meters each game, really put Rueben to shame at times. Price performs every week, very similar to how Koopu USED to stand up for us each week.

Webb is the only one that comes close to Price for me. Plays a fantastic support role and will be sorely missed. Having said that Mckinnon's lines and support play make him look like the type of guy who might flourish running off some good offloading 2nd rowers. Another reason I want the club to look at purchasing a ball playing forward.

For me Rovelli is far and away the young player of the year with Ah Van not far behind. Rovelli showed a good base of fundemental skills for the coaching staff to work with while Ah Van showed that with abit of further experience he will be able to slot in at Wing, Centre and Fullback. Stars of the future for sure.

Ah Van has 'Future Kiwis' written all over him.

Mannering has to be the most improved player, showed a few glimpses last year but really took it by the throat this year - week in week out. I would of expected more mistakes out of him - given his lack of experience and our past problems with defence out on that side. Mannering needs to be the rock that the back 5 is built around.

Evarn would of been close if he continued to perform like he did during the middle of the season - tended to fall away abit later in the year.

Ropati deserves an honorable mention. He was abysmal at the start of the year - bad decision making, a fear of passing and instead running the ball, poor vision on the 5th and a shotty kicking game - but really showed postive signs of improvement in the later rounds.

THats my 2 cents worth anyway.

As sliphgrrl
has already said it was only in the last few weeks..or the last month or so. Prior to that time I personally (and everyone sees it differently) didn't see anything he'd done which alluded to him to have been that impressive. If they are basing their decision on the latter half of the year then yes he gets top marks for it; but we aren't talking about picking a player based on only half a year it's about the whole year.

Okay, you've changed your story, now, but that's all good. At least that means you've seen an improvement, in contrast to your earlier post. :)

No I was agreeing with my own post.

It was the most indepth rugby league analysis I've encountered in years. It deserved just recognition, recognition i gladly gave it.

You obviously don't live in NZ/have Sky. they're idiots, the whole lot of them. I honestly don't know who's worse - ropati with his silly lisp (i know its wrong to mock handicapped people, but still) or costigan. they all use the same stock phrases over and over and don't properly call the game. argh!

Yeah, the Sky commentary is fine, especially when you've just pressed the mute button!

Costigan isn't so bad - at least he comments on the game. The other two are anti-Warriors and just argue with each other about how the Wawwiors are a wowwying wugby league team, especially Jewome Wopati...

If Ropati says 'Football Side' one more time in his pre-game analysis i'll straight up announce a Jihad on his old lisping ass.
