Some ask why I hate the Murdochs. easy answer, they almost destroyed our beloved game back in 1995.

Apart from that they must be one of the most despicable press families on the planet. For decades Rupert Murdoch has been called the "Dirty Digger", he even jokes about it.

Don Henley even wrote a song about Murdoch and Fox called 'Dirty Laundry".

I have heard some call him right wing. What does that mean?

His papers in the UK were not conservative, nor read by the upper classes. He catered for the lowest common denominator, because that was where the money was.

His management style has always been to employ cheap executives, just what our game doesn't need.

He employed a brilliant manager to launch Fox News, but he only got him because he was such a sex pest nobody else wanted him.

When he eventually had to sack the prick, the place went even further down the drain.

His channel has been promoting Russia for years, and continues during the war on Ukraine.

Back in the day rugby league commentators were very good, especially Ray Warren. Murdoch managed to get rid of all of them except Warren, now the current crop are as pathetic as the referees.

So now you know why I hate the Murdoch family.

Media is a massive propaganda tool and Im sure Murdoch has his hands over what has led to current climate of journalism. Its sensationalist and downright disgusting how low they can go, Murdoch is one of the founding fathers of this and continue to perpetuate it.

Agreed that the game is still ruined with Fox's involvement and with Vlandys sale of the NRL.com to foxtel continues to lose its independent voice. Our game has been souled out to fox and 9. The game itself is used to sell papers and the results on the field are just as important to have the roosters etc dominate. Murdoch agreed is the devil and has ruined our great game. The game hasnt been the same since 94, that was probably when it reached the peak of its powers, its unfortunate how things have turned out.

Murdoch employed a dreadful individual called Rebekah Brooks as his lead at News of the World. Imho she should have been jailed, evidence was destroyed by her husband (he was caught binning it on CCTV iirc) who claimed it was his porn stash he was getting rid of. The court accepted this version of events for some bizarre reason and she was cleared.

Yes exactly.

Kerry Packer had his nose in the trough with the Sydney clique so the Broncos (John Ribot) went running to Murdoch.

Packer was a league fan though, and cared something for the game. He would not have screwed it like Murdoch did.

You have to be careful what you wish for going to these big guys. Graham Lowe really got it wrong going to Eric Watson.

Wasn't he rumoured to be involved with Israeli intelligence?

You would have to ask if they are supporting Russia out of the goodness of their hearts. Murdoch is motivated by money.

The documentary was suggesting his daughter had introduced him to Epstein in the early stages of her relationship with the latter to help with the hiding of some of Maxwell’s funds overseas, nothing proven though. Jumped off his boat off the coast of Tenerife.

I've seen conflicting stories about that, mostly on r/Epstein. Lot of those docos are limited hangout pieces that rarely mention the intelligence agency angles for obvious national security reasons, particularly the Vicky Ward stuff.

Murdoch has had such a toxic influence in the UK that in order to help get him elected in 1997 Tony Blair had to get Murdoch onside, Murdoch’s papers were traditionally hostile to the Labour Party who they painted as loony left, unpatriotic, untrustworthy on tax and spend etc. A lot of this had an element of truth as Labour were in danger of lurching to the loony left in the early 80’s. Anyhow, it is suggested this is one of the reasons Blair sided with Bush and invaded Iraq, he needed to maintain credibility with the Americans but also with the Murdoch press.

Murdoch and his wanker of a son should have met with serious consequences over the phone hacking which is still being settled now. Government didn’t have the bollocks to take them on though

Rich lawyers and politicians and others are shit scared of him. Like all big media moguls
Robert Maxwell sued multiple parties when someone wrote a truthful biography on him, all shat their pants and withdrew the book from sale. A few years later he threw himself in the sea when the truth was about to come out anyhow

The Leader of the Senate has written to Murdoch complaining about Fox News. About time somebody did. The od s that the 1/6 report will implicate Fox News Staff.

Somebody asked me about the defamation action in Merka against this disgusting family, or more precisely against their biggest money earner Fox News.

They are being sued by Dominion Voting Systems for US$1.4 billion.

Considering Murdoch is worth US$21.7 billion he would seem to be able to afford it. I guess his other option is to let Fox News go bankrupt, but then the creeps would lose their biggest money earner.

They have relied on the US First amendment, which is the right to free speech. However where the free speech is false, and costs the other party money they can be sued, and on this occasion the Murdochs seem to have miscalculated.

This is the family responsible for the state of our game.
